Chapter 55: Chapter 55: The Monster Beneath

Carter pushed the basement door. It didn’t budge.

"Should I try the key?" Peter said.

"Wait."

Carter kicked the door hard. It still didn’t budge. He frowned.

As an Elite, his strength was superhuman. But it still couldn’t push the door open.

Carter switched to using the Prisoner and hit it on the door. A blast of red energy washed over the trio and pushed them backwards.

"This door isn’t normal. It was sealed by some kind of supernatural forces." Carter said.

"The book must be behind it." Charles said.

"Maybe." Carter nodded. "Or maybe whoever sealed this door wanted to make sure whatever behind it wouldn’t get out."

Charles and Peter shared a worried glance.

"Do you think that there is something dangerous behind it?" Charles said.

"I’m not sure. But it’s possible. Give me the key, Peter."

The butler handed Carter the gold key.

"You two should stay up here. I’ll go in first."

"Be careful down there." Charles said.

Carter nodded as he slotted the key in and twisted. The door clicked open.

The white swordsman pushed it open, revealing a long staircase led deeper to the ground.

"If I don’t get out in fifteen minutes. Leave this place."

Carter walked inside. The door snapped shut behind. A circle with a pentagram glowed on the door.

’Sign of evil?’

Carter walked down the stairs. The place was pitch back with not even one ball of flame.

Carter had Living Sense and Awaken Perception. But they were still not enough to compensate for the lack of vision.

[DRACULA EQUIPPED]

The white swordsman disappeared and in his place was the pale man with dark hair.

With Dracula’s Sonar Echolocation, the entire place lit up like it was daylight.

’I probably should find an opportunity to acquire Sonar Echolocation from the Terror Bat. It is a very useful skill. I just need to find enough human flesh for it to eat.’

The pale man continued downward. The stairs continued to grow longer and longer.

Then he reached the basement. The floor was made of beautiful cutstones and the torches on the wall had an eerie blue color.

On the ceiling were countless shadow creatures from before. They crawled around like spiders and filled the entire ceiling.

The pale man smiled. His Living Sense did not detect any of the shadow creatures at all. Because they weren’t alive.

But his Blood Sense did. All of them had blood. And Corrupted Blood was still counted as Blood for Dracula.

’This is a great playing field for me to test Dracula’s limitations.’

Carter tapped his shoes on the ground, creating noises. All the shadow creatures snapped their head toward Carter.

They dropped down from the ceiling and surrounded him in every direction. The only unobstructed way was to go back.

They snarled and growled at him, showing their monstrous side to a monster wearing human skin.

One shadow creature jumped forward. Carter’s hand snapped at its direction.

The shadow creature froze in midair as Carter held its blood.

"Don’t try to scare me, scoundrel. Let me show you what a true monster should look like."

Carter grew bigger instantly. His hand grew longer and bigger. His fingernails extended and became sharp like knives.

He grabbed the floating shadow creature in the throat.

Carter walked out from the shadow of the stair way. His body continued to grow bigger and bigger.

A bat head, snake fangs, wolf teeth, and winged monster.

It was so tall that its head almost touch the ceiling. Its body was several times bigger than the shadow creatures.

Carter’s expanded and spread. He crushed the shadow creature in his large hand and hovered it above his mouth. He manipulated its blood to flood out entirely. Not even one drop was left. The black blood dripped into his mouth.

"Delicious dark blood of the damned." Carter licked his mouth. His deep voice echoed in the basement.

He dropped the shadow creature on the ground. Now only a shell of what it once was.

A nice little surprise welcomes Carter. Dracula could also kill an undead entirely. He just needs to make sure all of their blood is consumed.

’I see... Your blood is the source of your power.’

The shadow creature rushed at him. The winged monster opened its mouth. Negative Energy turned into a beam and blasted at the shadow creatures.

They were disintegrating like ice meeting fire. However, the beam still allowed them to survive and regenerate.

A few shadow creatures bundled together. They fired back their own Negative Beams at Carter.

The beam scratched his skin and couldn’t penetrate it.

Carter moved his beam toward that group. His giant thick beam crushed the small beam and continued to disintegrate the shadow creatures on its path.

The winged monster turned off the beam. It flew off the ground and charged straight ahead. Carter just used Charging Dash, the ability that Dracula retained from Terror Charger.

It increased his speed instantly and crushed everything on his way. He slammed a bunch of shadow creatures again today the wall, causing the entire Museum to shake.

On the ground floor, Charles and Peter tried their best to maintain their balance. They looked around in fear of the entire place came crash I down at any moment.

"We should get out of the building." Peter said.

"Couldn’t agree more." Charles nodded.

The two bolted out of the Museum.

Back in the basement, Carter grabbed a bunch of shadow creatures he just crushed and juiced them like they were oranges. He squeezed them entirely in his large palm and held them high for their blood to flow to him.

"Hahahaha! More blood! Blood with negativity and death! There isn’t a more sinister blood than this!"

Carter was entirely becoming the monster for the scene. He embraced it like he was truly a bloodthirsty vampire.

The shadow creatures came crashing in at the same time. They tried to overwhelm him with number.

Carter swiped his arm, sending an entire wave of shadow creatures flying. Then red shock wave shot out of his body and bludgeoned the nearby enemies.

In the deepest corner of the basement, there was a leathery book that glowed an eerie green.
