Chapter 338: Pawns

[Supreme World - Lilith Domain.]

Perran materialized instantly in Lilith’s grand throne hall, his body appearing as a smoking heap of broken bone and scale, still unconscious.

PIFF!

Lilith suddenly coughed, a violent spasm that forced a stream of black-red blood onto her pristine floor, shocking her five beautiful.

"Mother?" Violet exclaimed, rushing forward in alarm.

"It is nothing," Lilith rasped, her hand wiping the blood from her lips. The taste of failure and the backlash from the Void-jump were bitter. She stared down at the utterly defeated Perran.

"Take him to the deepest recovery chamber—the Obsidian Cradle. He needs his full strength back, and he must not be disturbed. For now, we retreat our hand from the Upper World. Let Lester deal with it."

"But Mother," Agora, her most astute advisor, protested, "Lester has no idea about the coming Heavens. He won’t recognize the danger—"

"That is precisely the point," Lilith cut her off, a chilling pragmatism settling in her crimson eyes. "He won’t be scared into inaction. He will treat this as a simple uprising. Let him go."

"What... what if he dies?" Violet whispered, fearing the prospect of another loss.

Lilith’s lips curved into a cold, predatory smile. "Then my wayward daughter will come back to me, humbled and seeking aid." She licked the residual blood from her fingers. "Give him my full authority and my command."

The five exchanged uneasy glances and nodded. They understood the cold logic: Lilith had just signed her son-in-law’s death warrant.

"Hahaha! So funny."

The air instantly chilled. Lilith’s face turned to ash, and she and her group snapped their attention to the doorway, where a shimmering phantom of Aurelia, the Supreme goddess of the Angel Domain, stood, radiating a cold, golden mockery.

"Hahahaha! Oh, I can’t stop laughing! The great Empress of the Dark Domain actually got beaten by a weak woman! And lost her prized Child of Destruction!" Aurelia laughed, holding her stomach, the sound echoing like crystalline bells.

"I just made a tactical miscalculation, little bird. Not like I am dead or anything," Lilith replied with a dangerous frown. "I am sure that would please you greatly."

"Don’t be so dramatic," Aurelia countered, waving a dismissive hand. "I won’t be happy if you die. How will I have my fun antagonizing you if you’re dead? Don’t be so down."

"Why are you here, Aurelia? Are you here solely to gloat over my momentary setback?" Lilith asked, her annoyance palpable.

"Gloat? Well, making fun of you is always part of the reason," Aurelia admitted, letting her laughter subside. "But I am also here for something very important to the Supreme World."

"Oh? What is so important that you leave the light of your Angel Domain for the shadow of mine, even if you only send a meager phantom?"

Aurelia’s expression sobered instantly, the change alarming. She looked directly at Lilith, her white eyes piercing. "I feel the subtle rumbling of a great event—a disruption in the Void that precedes universal calamities. And the coming Heavens might be the only entities that can truly help stabilize the Supreme World. Going against them, or their parent, is not merely unwise; it is suicide."

"Oh? And what are you suggesting?" Lilith sneered.

"That you give up your petty anger and your campaign against Sunny. Focus your considerable powers and forces on something that matters to the stability of our collective worlds!"

Lilith scoffed, her crimson gaze flashing with renewed fury. "Just as the worlds matter to you, Sunny matters to me. He not only crippled thousands of my children, but he also killed my beloved Sixth Beauty, Gabby. Even if I care little for my foot soldiers, I cared for her." She pointed a finger, thick with vengeful passion, at the unconscious Perran.

"Look at the condition of my son! How can I let this insult stand? Yes, my primary target is God Wolf, not his children, so my agenda remains achievable. I must avenge Gabby." She fixed her crimson eyes back on Aurelia.

"And you, little bird... Do not try to ruin my plans again. Take note: my target is God Wolf, not his children. Do not dare interfere, or you will become my true enemy, and the war between our domains will finally break."

Aurelia raised a perfect eyebrow. "You seem to forget, Lilith, that from the very beginning, we are enemies. Light and darkness cannot peacefully coexist; one will eventually have to yield. Going after Sunny now is simply accelerating your death wish." Without another word, Aurelia’s phantom dissolved, vanishing from sight.

"Mother?"

The five turned to Lilith, who merely pointed a finger at Perran.

"Don’t waste time. Lester will do the dirty work. Take my son away now." A hint of simmering, dangerous rage lingered in her tone.

The five quickly obeyed, moving towards Perran and surrounding him in a tight circle. They each solemnly produced a ritual dagger and slit their palms, drawing thick, crimson blood.

Lilith watched as the five began moving in a slow, precise orbit, forming a blood-streaked circle around Perran.

"Giving thirty percent of my life force, to restore the Young Master!" they chanted in unison.

A blinding white light erupted from the pooling blood on the ground, consuming Perran. He vanished, teleported into the deepest healing sanctuary.

"Good," Lilith nodded, watching as the five dropped weakly to the ground, exhausted by the monumental sacrifice of their life force. "Very good."

___

[Supreme World - Angel Domain.]

Aurelia opened her eyes, the phantom’s experience fading. A slight frown creased her brow. "Lilith is so stubborn! What can one goddess of the underworld gain from this foolish vengeance? I know her. She will stay low-key for now, but that doesn’t mean she won’t act." she muttered, pacing.

"She will use Lester Blood," the massive Fox, sitting calmly by her throne, stated in a calm, prophetic tone.

"You are right," Aurelia sighed, tapping her chin. "Lester is foolish, always driven by the promise of ultimate power, and he will do anything for it. If she sends him with the promise of the Primordial Stones as the reward, he will jump into the abyss gladly." She snapped her fingers.

"Yes! And she will also use the Wendigos in the Upper World to destabilize Sunny’s new kingdom. If my guess is correct, the Elves—will also join the Wendigos, blaming the chaos on the Human Kingdom." She rubbed her temple, the political gears grinding.

"Sunny is now the proclaimed King of the human kingdom. He never backs down; with the help of that Primordial Stone I gifted him through the heavens, he will be a solid Seventh-Order powerhouse now. Those Upper World guys won’t stand a chance against him, unless Lester sends one of his wives—they are powerful themselves."

"No," the Fox explained, its gaze filled with ancient wisdom. "Lester is power-hungry, but he is not strategically stupid. He values his political stability. Sending his own powerful Brides to a risky battle isn’t his style; he will rather watch the Upper World mortals kill each other before making his final, opportunist move."

"Okay then. I will stay here and watch the magnificent, pointless show," Aurelia smiled, sitting down on her throne, content to observe the unfolding mortal conflict.

____

[Upper World.]

[Matilda’s Mansion.]

’Thank goodness I escaped when I did. If I had stayed until he fully recovered, it would have been disastrous,’ Matilda thought with a frown.

’Not to mention he is now a Seventh-Order powerhouse, while I am only Sixth-Order.’

She stared at her ten ’Deaths’ standing silently before her, her loyal Subordinates. Beside them stood her stoic butler, Georgia, the powerful female vampire.

"What do you think we should do now?" Matilda asked, turning her gaze to her followers. She had failed her mission to seize the Human throne.

’No! I haven’t failed. The mission is to take the throne. I will not give up!’

"My Queen, what about assassination?" the Tenth Death, known as Alekto, asked, her red gaze fixed on Matilda.

"Assassinate a Seventh-Order King with your God-Rank strength? Are you that utterly stupid?" Matilda asked with a sharp frown.

"No, no, My Queen!" Alekto quickly corrected. "I didn’t mean we should assassinate him. We should hire or manipulate someone powerful enough to do it."

"Hmm... That might work, but it will be incredibly difficult to find someone strong enough and foolish enough to kill God Wolf right now," she sighed softly. Then, an idea sparked, twisting her lips into a cruel smile.

"I am currently an Elf... Maybe I can use this appearance and the prevailing chaos to my advantage." She stood up, radiating cunning.

"What is the plan, My Queen?" Jabez, one of the Deaths, asked, staring at Matilda’s retreating back.

"We are visiting the Elven Kingdom..." Matilda declared, her pace quickening. The time for subtlety was over.

The ten shadows exchanged confused glances, but quickly dissolved into the shadows, following their Queen.

___

[Wendigos’ Kingdom.]

King Garrard of the Wendigos sat heavily on his throne, his powerful gaze sweeping over his four pillars standing before him. After what seemed like an eternity of silent calculation, he finally opened his mouth.

"You all saw the cataclysm today. The Child of Destruction was defeated, and the God Wolf has claimed the throne of the Human Kingdom. His coronation is set for tomorrow. I have a very important, time-sensitive task for you all." He delivered the final sentence with a cunning, predatory smile.

"What is the plan, Your Majesty?" Olivia, the First Pillar and now a recently ascended Fourth-Order powerhouse, asked, staring at Garrard with a challenging directness.

’It seems she doesn’t remember... That is good,’ Garrard thought, his smile widening:

"You will all be given a task regarding the coronation. And no matter the obstacle, you must complete it by tomorrow night."

Olivia frowned, irritated that he dodged her query. She turned abruptly and began to walk away, her back rigid.

"Take it slow on yourself, Olivia," Garrard said, his voice dropping to a low, warning growl. "Remember what the Great Mother did to you for refusing her authority."

Olivia stopped instantly, looking back at him over her shoulder. Her eyes were cold, fierce, and entirely devoid of fear. "I know." With that, she continued her resolute march out of the hall.

’What a stubborn girl. But stubbornness is sometimes the best weapon,’ Garrard thought with a sigh, already anticipating the complicated conflict to come.
