Chapter 399: One Kill

The twenty remaining elite guards looked at one another, torn between fear and duty, but eventually rushed towards the two traitors, forming a shield wall around them.

"Hold the line. As you can see, those two girls are a lot stronger than us. But if we succeed, we will protect you all!" The first yelled, spinning a web of lies to buy time. The Guards nodded with relief and hope, ignorant of their fate.

The two men nodded to each other and reached into their robes. They brought out two red needles, glowing with a sinister, chaotic light. These were different from the ones used against Zach.

"Here we go!"

They held each other’s hand, cementing their pact, and stabbed the needles into their own foreheads. Instantly, their eyes turned white and lifeless as the forbidden concoction rewrote their biology.

While the two were busy initiating their monstrous transformation, Ellen and Jinx squatted down before Zach. Ellen turned him around to face them.

"Hold on. Let me heal you." She said, reaching out with a hand glowing with light.

But she was stopped by Zach, who weakly grabbed her wrist. His eyes fluttered open, filled with regret.

"No... This old dragon have lived for so many years. And I made a lot of mistakes... Cough!"

He gave a small, sad smile, blood staining his teeth. "This is my punishment. I don’t want to escape it." He said. He turned his head to look past them, locking eyes with the black-haired deity.

"You must be God wolf... Thank you for everything, for taking care of these two." He said.

Sunny simply nodded his head, accepting the gratitude.

Zach nodded back, and turned his gaze to Ellen and Jinx.

"I... I called you here for two reasons." He forced himself to move, wincing as he placed his arm on his chest.

Ellen and Jinx watched as he phased his hand through his own scales and drew out a black energy orb from his chest. It pulsed with a heartbeat of its own—heavy, ancient, and sorrowful. The moment he did this, he coughed off a mouthful of blood and his face turned paler than ash.

"This... This here is the heart of the eternal dragon... It can only be pass down from one Lord to another. And now, I am passing it to you two." He said, stretching it out to Jinx with a trembling hand.

Jinx stared at the orb. She could feel the immense power within it—enough to rule nations. She looked at it with disdain, and shook her head.

"Old man, we aren’t here to rule over this place or take some family heirloom. We are here just to see the man who called himself our grandfather..." She looked at Ellen, confirming her sister felt the same, then back at Zach.

"We can’t accept it." She said, her gaze flat and uncompromising.

Zach was stunned speechless, staring at her in shock. He couldn’t comprehend it. "Cough! This... Dear, this is about our people... If we don’t secure this orb and have a new Lord, chaos will descend, and our people might all die." He said, his eyes filled with pleading desperate to save his legacy.

Jinx stood upright, looking down at him. Her expression was cold and flat. "We aren’t taking it." She stated.

Seeing he wasn’t going anywhere with Jinx, he turned to Ellen, hoping the younger one would be more pliable. But Ellen also looked away, refusing the burden. This energy was strong enough to boost anyone two ranks ahead, a treasure wars were fought over, but his two granddaughters were rejecting it—something those two traitors had betrayed him for.

He sighed, the weight of his failure crushing him. He turned to Sunny, pleading with his eyes for the Realm Ruler to intervene.

Sunny moved his expressionless face to the two girls. He understood their resentment, but he also understood responsibility. He exhaled softly.

"I have a suggestion."

GRAAAAA!!!

The four turned to the distraction. The red needles had done their work.

A huge beast’s hand shot into the air, mutated and scaled, and grabbed the guards who had been protecting them. From the center of the guards’ barricade, a nightmare rose. A huge black humanoid dragon with two heads—bearing the twisted, screaming faces of the two men—and four hands and legs stood amidst the gore.

Standing ten meters tall, it threw its hand forward, catching all the horrified guards in a single scoop. It threw them all into its dual maws, chewing slowly, savoring the crunch of armor and bone.

"Ahh!!!"

"Help me!!!"

"No!! Don’t eat me!!!"

The men screamed, only to be stepped on, eaten, and swung away with its massive tail. The plaza was painted red in seconds.

"Hmm... The more this thing eats, the stronger it gets." Jinx said with crossed arms, watching the carnage with the detached annoyance of someone watching a fly buzz. She started walking towards it.

"You know, When my dad is speaking, you shouldn’t interrupt him." She said, her voice cutting through the screams as she walked towards the now 15-meter-tall dragon giant.

GRAAAAAA!!!

It let out a roar that shattered windows, and launched towards Jinx with pure bloodlust, swinging its massive hand down to crush her into paste.

Jinx didn’t flinch. She didn’t dodge. She just exhaled, bored.

"So stupid."

She pointed two fingers at the monster’s skulls. Her eyes flashed with a dark, eldritch energy.

"Brain Annihilation."

She muttered the forbidden skill got from Morgana.

Instantly, the heads of the huge monster didn’t just explode; they ceased to exist. Brain matter and blood shattered into pieces, falling all over the place like rain. An invisible barrier deflected the gore, so none touched her.

The massive body of the twin-headed abomination swayed for a second, then crashed to the ground with a thunderous boom.

".....?!!"

Zach was stunned speechless, his mouth hanging open as he stared at the granddaughter he had once deemed too weak to exist.

’These?! I am so sorry Zohar, please forgive me.’ He thought inwardly.
