Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!-Chapter 660 - Meeting with the Pope and the Council (Part 1)
To stop him from doing something that he seem to not understand, I suddenly stopped walking and asked, pretending to be jealous, "Do you just bring every visitor to have a tour at your room too?" He turned to look back at me after being pulled back abruptly after I stopped walking. Hearing what I just said he looked at me as if saying, "Are you serious right now?"
I looked at him and just raised one of my eyebrows, daring him to answer my question. He sighed and replied, "You are the only one that I even invited to see my room. Even the pope or even the staff that cleans this temple isn’t allowed inside my room. I do the cleaning and even my laundry so I am clean, pure and innocent."
He ended his answer with a smirk as if he won this round. What surprised him though was when I smirked back. I then took a few steps towards him, leaned over and whispered, "I don’t think you can call yourself pure and innocent anymore. Really? In front of me, out of all people?"
Oh. I forgot to tell you that we kind of did a few naughty things in the academe library when he was there.
My response turned Clarence’s face red within seconds then he whispered in an irritated tone, "Shut up! That should only be between us!" I ended up laughing so loud, it was echoing in the temple corridors.
He was about to complain again when we heard running footsteps towards where we are. When we looked back at the direction where the sound was coming from, we saw a young boy, most likely 12 to 13 years old. He was panting due from running. He finally stopped in front of us, holding his chest and catching his breath.
It took some time for him before he was able to speak. We waited for some time for him to breath easier. When he was finally recovered, he finally spoke in a hurried manner, "I have been looking for the two of you for almost half an hour! The pope and the elders have been waiting for the guest at the conference hall together with the rest of the members. Where have you been?!"
I looked at Clarence and he simply rolled his eyes at the boy and clicked his tongue. He then used a cold tone and responded, "I toured my wife around the temple. Can’t I spend some time with her first before all of those people?"
The child who was obviously just tasked to send the information over was speechless and he even turned pale after he understood what Clarence just said. He hurriedly stuttered a response, "But- But- The pope- You holiness, is- They are waiting- You need to-"
Clarence mocked the little boy by repeating how he stuttered, "Ah- Ah- But- But- Tsk! I do not understand anything you said! Let them wait!"
He then continued walking forward pulling my hand in the process. I looked at the young boy with pity and he looked at me with eyes that looked like he was about to cry. Clarence ignored the child who was following closely behind us and continued my so-called tour. I sighed and shook my head in helplessness.
True to what he said, he really made the elders wait in the conference hall for another half an hour. The little boy following us is already pale and he looked dazed. He must be thinking about what punishment he will get because he was unable to take this stubborn man in front of me and the visitor (me) back to the conference hall for over an hour now.
Just as we turned around a corner of the hall, we saw an elderly man wearing white simple robes with no embellishments on it. He was standing in the middle of the corridor and staring outside the window. just admiring the view of the garden outside.
Seeing the old man standing by the window, Clarence stopped in his steps and just stared. Without warning he turned around, started walking briskly towards the opposite direction and pulling me in tow. The child ran towards the direction of the old man instead and then he complained, "Your holiness! The high priest does not want to go to the conference hall and said we are all interfering with his time with his wife!"
We have only made out a few steps when we heard a loud and deep laugh from behind us. It was a happy laugh but then his next words made Clarence stop in his tracks, "You do know that we have to go through a certain process to these things. You are a high priest and I am the only one allowed to officiate your marriage. If you keep being stubborn and not face the council and the members, that wedding won’t happen you know?"
Oh, that’s the pope then. He is this stubborn man’s own grandfather.
Clarence still has his back on to the pope while as for me, I already looked back to the old man. When he saw me looking back, he gave me an amiable smile and a polite bow. He then added while still having a smile on his face, "Did you even ask if the saintess has already eaten her breakfast or if she is thirsty or needed to freshen up after her long travel?"
I felt Clarence flinch through the hand that was holding mine then he slowly turned around to look at me. His face this time looked worried and apologetic for not checking on my affairs. I looked back at him with a smile and I shook my head as I whispered that I was alright.
During this short time that Clarence was distracted, I heard the pope give orders to the young child named Yves to guide me to the "saintess’" room. He happily hopped back towards me then told me to follow him.
The pope walked towards us as well and he suddenly grabbed Clarence’s wrist so my man involuntary had to let go of my hand. He then pulled Clarence away, most likely for punishment or scolding for his stubbornness.
