Chapter 113: Lost Goblin

*EXTRA LONG Chapter*

---

Weeks continued to pass. Eventually, only one day remained before the worldwide game event began.

At this point, Midas had nearly finished absorbing every single beast core within the cove. Now, only a small pile of C-tier cores remained.

Midas closed his eyes, exhaling deeply as he took multiple perfect third breaths. Doing this, he found it easy to further train his breathing, along with cultivating his core at the same time. It was a two-for-one deal.

Noticing this was quite satisfying and relieving, even. It felt like a period of time where Midas dedicated all his effort to the single cause of getting stronger.

It was Midas doing nothing but stepping toward victory, which felt amazing.

The mana from the few remaining C-tier beast cores quickly began to seep out into the air. It was quickly sucked up by a strong magnetic force within Midas’s body.

Since he had been practicing his third breath almost nonstop for so long, he had made rapid improvements in his form with the third breath.

Naturally, he found that he could improve the quality of his first breath gradually as well.

However, he found that after a while, its improvement would dwindle. This would likely mean that the breath had reached its maximum potential.

The third breath felt like it had the strength of ten first breaths! It allowed Midas to absorb the mana even faster as it naturally upgraded as well.

The mana was quickly dispersed through his meridians, and with another breath, it was swiftly absorbed into Midas’s core.

*Ding*

[You have gained a significant amount of mana.]

[You have leveled up!]

[You have reached level 42.]

[Stats remaining: 14]

Without hesitation, Midas allocated his stat points.

[Vitality: 22/22-->25/25(+60%)]

[Strength: 27-->32(+40%)]

[Stamina: 22/22-->24/24(+100%)]

[Speed: 23-->27]

After updating his stats, Midas smiled. He exhaled steamy breath before slowly standing up.

He had been meditating for hours and even days on end for the past couple of months.

This time, he opened his eyes for the first time in six days of meditation and cultivation. His pupils shone with a silky, yet bright, red color. It resembled a vermillion moon in the dark night sky.

He gazed at the palm of his right hand.

’From level twenty... to forty-two. I am more than twice as strong as before, from my stats alone. But from the boosts granted by the Nine-Breath Circulation breathing, I have ascended even further due to the percentage boosts.’ Midas thought to himself.

Although it was just pure statistics, it felt like there was nothing more entertaining for him.

Midas’s body had naturally changed... a lot. To accommodate the new stats, his limbs and organs were forced to adapt and evolve.

Midas was ripping with new muscles now. Before, he was densely muscular but fairly slender-looking. But now, Midas had a slight tank-like feature to him.

His frame was wider, his muscles slightly bulkier. But he was still shredded and looked athletic.

Midas clenched his fist before taking a step outside.

It was broad daylight outside. Seeing the clear light from the sun, unobstructed by the wall of water, felt like a breath of fresh air.

Just then, Midas heard an odd noise far away in the forest before him.

He closed his eyes, using his skill of perception and spatial awareness paired with his Eye of Ace to observe the lifeforms around him.

A visual projection occurred in his mind, allowing him to see a birds-eye-view model of the land around him.

A few hundred feet away, a couple of giant soldier mosquitoes were flying through the jungle at an urgent pace.

Midas’s ears twitched as they picked up the words that the mosquitoes were saying.

"Apparently, they finally found him!" A mosquito yelled.

"Really!? Elder Gool has been found? He’s been lost for weeks!" The other mosquito quickly buzzed.

"We must go to make sure!" A dozen other mosquitoes suddenly showed up from behind them.

Midas’s eyebrows furrowed, ’Huh? Gool’s been lost? No one must have told me because I told them not to disturb me...’ He thought, slightly annoyed as he clicked his teeth.

"Oi! Take me along!" Midas yelled into the air.

A mosquito soldier quickly buzzed through the canopy and approached him.

"My lord! You’ve finally come out of solitary cultivation!" The soldier shouted, seeming almost eager.

"Hurry!" Midas stretched out his hand, "Take me to where Gool has been found." He shouted.

The mosquito dove down, quickly picking Midas up and soaring back into the sky.

They traveled quickly, reaching back up with the rest of the squad.

"I’ve come out, but it seems to be at a troublesome time. What’s been going on since I’ve been in seclusion? Surely, nothing too important was kept silent." Midas asked.

"Nothing of the sort, my lord! Well... except maybe this." The mosquito referred to the present moment, "Ever since a couple of weeks ago, Elder Gool has been lost. He disappeared, and no one has been able to find him. As of this past week, several broad-scale search missions have been sent out for him. All hope seemed to have been lost, but somehow, a group apparently found him!"

Midas furrowed his brows, ’How odd... he isn’t the type to do this. Especially not without telling me first. What reason would he have that I don’t know?’ He thought to himself, ’No... surely, there has to be some sort of external power at play. I don’t believe this was the outcome of only Gool’s actions.’

Soon enough, Midas and the rest of the hundred or so mosquitoes arrived at the scene where Gool was to have been last seen.

From where Midas was floating, it looked to be a familiar area.

’The pillars...’ Midas thought to himself, gazing down at the nostalgic area below.

On his first day on the island, he had come to this very spot. He had also met Gool here and summoned Dorian.

All of this was why it confused Midas even more that this was where Gool had been found.

As Midas descended on the soldier mosquito, all other mosquitoes cleared a path.

Midas stepped down onto the pavement alone and began walking forward.

His eyes narrowed, Gool’s limp body shone in the reflection of his pupil.

Before him lay Gool completely unconscious on the ground. However, he looked different.

The goblin looked malnourished and heavily diseased as well. His skin was more wrinkly and turning gray instead of green.

Midas’s eyes flickered, his breath shaking slightly as he saw the state of Gool.

However, his ears perked, and he noticed that Gool’s heart was still beating.

"What... who in the world did this?" Midas said in a low tone.

*Three Weeks Earlier*

"It’s time to take my normal patrol around the city!" Gool shouted, walking through the wild forest with his hands behind his head.

He was relaxed, since he was doing what he loved... exploring! He loved adventuring and walking through places he had never been before.

However, he also loved going to places he had visited in the past. Moving and not staying in one place for too long was what he preferred to do.

Due to Midas’s new base location, the pillars that he had encountered early in his days on the island were not very far.

This day, Gool decided to revisit the area.

It didn’t take him long, since he knew the fastest paths and was quick on his feet when he wanted to be.

As he stepped under the pillars, however, he froze. He noticed a young human standing before him. His back was turned, but he was close to twenty years of age, if Gool were to have guessed.

"Who... are you?" Gool spoke aloud.

And then... Leon turned.

"Huh?" He raised a brow, "A goblin!? Stay back! I might kill you!" He shouted, raising his fist and lunging back.

"You might? What is that supposed to mean? You speak as if you don’t have any control over your own body." Gool scoffed.
