Island God: Going From Level 1 To World Ruler-Chapter 114: Savior (Episode 1)
"I’m serious!" Leon retorted. He was clearly trying to be stern in his tone.
"Fine... It’s not like I’m trying to fight you anyway." Gool replied, "So, what’s your deal?" He asked nonchalantly.
"What’s my deal?" Leon replied in a confused tone, "What’s your deal!? I’ve seen plenty of goblins in my time, but the goblins near my home looked different from you." He said.
"That would be obvious, since many goblin races exist across Fell-Terra." Gool replied, "But on this island, there is only one race. That means you must have come from a foreign land."
Leon gulped, not knowing the intention of the goblin.
’Shoot... this goblin. Why is he trying to figure out that I’m from a foreign land? That would only matter to someone who’s in a defensive position. I know he didn’t want to fight me, but I can’t trust sneaky goblins!’ Leon thought inwardly.
"Listen up, boy!" Gool announced, "This island is under the command of--" He was cut off.
"W-wait!" Leon shouted, ’He’s probably going to say that goblins rule this island, and that I will be eaten alive!’ He thought for a split second. After all, this was how the goblins near his birthplace would act.
He had never encountered any in the wild, but goblin slaves, captives, and corpses were plentiful to see.
"I’ll be completely frank with you, since I care about my life," Leon said, almost in a defeated tone.
Gool raised a brow, letting the young man speak.
"I have come to Demadur Island from the shores of Meniras. My parents were slaughtered, and I wish to find a path to vengeance here. A man whom I admire told me to come here... so I did." Leon admitted everything.
He knew that goblins usually weren’t the kindest creatures, but they were at least intelligent.
’Maybe he can help me out... if not kill me.’ Leon dreaded inwardly.
"Demadur?" Gool said, "It’s been a while since this island has been called that."
"W-what?" Leon replied. He was confused, but only because the name of the island had apparently changed, and also because Gool completely ignored everything else he had said.
’Is the new name of the island so important?’ Leon thought.
"It’s called Star Island now," Gool said.
Leon’s eyes instantly flew open with shock.
"S-star island?" He muttered as if he hadn’t heard right the first time, "You said that this island is now called... Star Island?" Without even receiving an answer, his heart started to pump faster.
He felt an exhilaration that quickly consumed him, a smile appearing on his face as his pupils flickered with light.
’I... have finally made some progress!’ He thought to himself. It had been many weeks since he had arrived on the island. Ever since then, he had been surviving as best he could.
He would usually reside in caves and hide out the night before continuing his travels.
Whenever he would encounter beasts, he would try his best to avoid them. Hunting was fairly easy, since the wildlife and small game in the forests were plentiful.
However, there were times when powerful beasts beyond the Aspect Beast tier would attack him as well.
During these times, his hunting ability did not assist him whatsoever. Often, he would be faced with the reality of death.
Right at the brink of danger, however, a dark energy within him would take over his free will.
He would gain an immense amount of power, but lose temporary control of his body.
This was the only way that he had survived up until now.
During this entire time, however, Leon had been slowly losing his hope for vengeance. He had been losing his mind, in fact.
He was only a child in terms of experience, even though his brain had aged and evolved.
To think that he once had a completely different life and a separate future was almost horrifying.
Now, he was living in the jungle for months to find what felt like a fable...
He had even begun to doubt himself. Doubt whether following Dorian’s words was the right thing to do.
Finally, however, all of his doubts were cast aside. They hadn’t disappeared, but at least for now, it seemed that hope was still alive.
’Still, this can be a coincidence. I need to understand further.’ Leon thought.
"Yep! It’s called Star Island. It was named by--" Gool was interrupted once again. However, this time, it was not by Leon.
A sharp noise whisleted from the right, quickly becoming louder as it approached.
Gool turned, but by then, it was too late.
A blob of what looked to be a thick purple liquid was traveling toward him at immense speed. Within, dozens of small barbed spikes coated with the same viscous liquid flew forward as well.
As his eyes widened with shock, Gool was petrified. The purple liquid came three feet from splashing all over him and shredding through his body.
Just then, a hand glowing with streaks of dark and bright red energy appeared in front of the purple glob.
Leon grabbed the spikes, but the liquid still managed to spill onto Gool and send him flying backwards.
Gool’s back slammed against a pillar before he slid down.
His body was covered in the purple substance for a few seconds before he quickly wiped it off.
He began choking, feeling as though the air in his lungs was attempting to leave forcefully.
Leon cleared his hand. There was no residue left on his arm because the energy created a layer good enough to repel it.
To his right, a massive spider beast the size of an African elephant stood on the edge of the forest line.
Gool also saw the spider, in awe of its size and fearsome appearance.
The spider had a torso that looked to be made of obsidian with various shells of exoskeleton and spikes layered atop.
Its legs were long and dug into the ground with sharp, pointy tips, while serrated spikes covered the trunk of each leg.
Its legs alone were six feet tall, allowing the abdomen of the beast to float high in the air.
Leon was shaken to his core. He had seen massive beasts before, but this one was not even comparable to the rest.
"Just what... is this thing?" He muttered under his breath, at a loss.
Gool felt heavily exhausted all of a sudden, feeling his energy being quickly sapped.
’This must be its poison.’ He thought.
"Its..." Gool spoke with a weak breath, "A Death Spike Arachnid..."
The spider hissed as its mouth clawed and crunched aggressively. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"A what!?" Leon looked back in shock.
"They don’t appear outside. Only within deep cave systems... but this one is different." Gool said, his voice growing more weary by the second.
"How so!?" Leon urgently asked.
"It’s... seemed to have reached the elder stage. It is far more powerful than a normal Death Spike Arachnid..." By the end of this sentence, Gool could almost no longer even open his eyes.
His skin looked more pale, his eyes carrying darker eye bags now as his skin dried up.
"Also..." Gool coughed, "The pillars..." He attempted to speak, "Stay... under... the..."
