Chapter 89: Elders

Within, dozens of street paths intersected all across the interior. The paths were made of stone laid down using cement.

Houses made of logs lined the sides of each street. Buildings for shops, streets with other establishments such as smitheries and armories, food shops, and so on had already begun to form.

As of now, Midas refuses to use currency. He decided to begin using it when his kingdom became an actual place of trade.

For now, food and labor, for that matter, were distributed by a council of members created by Midas.

Of course, the council members were the leaders of the races Midas had captured so far.

The war general was Dorhal, officially given the title of Supreme Commander when it came to Midas’s army. His job was to, of course, assume the role of commander when it came to battle.

But above that, it was also to make sure all those under Midas were trained for combat. He oversaw all weapons and armor production as well to verify quality.

Bzzrt was the main force behind all distributions of labor, food, housing, and etecera. His goal was to maintain an equal balance of all activities and benefits throughout those under Midas.

With his title of king, this was very easy for him. He was used to doing this.

His official title was: King’s Hand.

Since Midas was pretty trash at being king, it was more of an excuse to make Bzzrt the substitute king for now, while he acted as a figurehead. He placed the hassle of the intricate and complicated details onto Bzzrt.

Since Midas’s colony was still small, it wasn’t an issue for the mosquito.

Yemo was given the title: Head of Science and Technology. His efforts in crafting new machinery for Midas to use had all been effective.

As time passed and materials grew in abundance, his trials were only more successful. He would supersede all of the most advanced warfare machinery that came from Star island.

Finally, Gool was named: Secretary of the King. Now... this was quite a random naming.

’Realistically,’ Midas thought to himself as he was giving out the titles earlier this month, ’Gool is just useful to have around. He isn’t exactly a secretary, since he doesn’t fulfill that role. But he’s my first ever subordinate. He’s been with me since the beginning, and has helped me just as much as any other members of the council.’

This was the reason Midas wanted to include Gool in the council. Also, Midas was quite fond of Gool.

Day by day, the goblin would make him laugh. They also found that they could relate to many things.

It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the two were best friends.

’I think my time here in Fell-Terra would have been much worse without Gool... even without his exertise.’ Midas thought inwardly.

Gool’s job was to simply advise Midas on certain decisions. A person he could go to talk things out as though he were brainstorming, and come up with the best solutions.

These four combined made the council of Star island, which Midas named: Elders.

The inspiration arrived from the natural occurrence on Fell-Terra.

Whenever a being reached past their natural age limit and became the strongest stage of their life, they would be called elders.

The highest, most supreme stage was called elders, so why not use the same idea for the highest stage of minds within his own kingdom?

So, these were the four elders of Star island.

After arriving back at base, Midas departed once again without a word.

This time, it was on foot.

He traveled until he reached a location that was very familiar to him.

It was the place where he had been meditating using the scroll for his duration of attempting to break through into the second breath.

It was a humble area. Just like how Midas wanted it to be.

He didn’t want anything grand where curious eyes might wander over to peek at.

He just wanted a place that gave him peace of mind.

The area was similar to where he broke through into the first breath. He wanted to mimic the same setting for obvious reasons.

A waterfall led down to a riverbed that stretched out into a river, which flowed through the forest as far as the eye could see.

This location, however, was much larger than the previous one.

The waterfall itself was two bus lengths in width and four in height. There were similar large boulders scattered across the banks and sides of the river.

Midas chose to rest atop the largest one, placing himself into a meditative position before beginning his breathwork.

From all that he understood so far, the second breath was no joke. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

Dorian’s clue about the fact that Midas was close to breaking through was a sudden change of course, but even with that, Midas didn’t feel very confident.

He could maintain the same perfect first breath for a very long time, just like he had done during his challenge with Sergalas.

However, to take in another perfect breath was extremely difficult.

If he waited a bit, it was just as easy as before, but there needed to be several breaths in between for this to occur.

However, taking one perfect first breath after another did not mean Midas would break through into the second breath.

He learned this the hard way weeks ago.

For the first time, he had taken a perfect first breath, and then the same perfect breath back to back!

But nothing happened... nothing extraordinary anyway. He felt fairly rejuvenated. Much more so than what a normal breath would do.

As time passed, he found himself able to do the perfect breaths many times in a row.

Still, the second breath was aloof to him.

No matter how many times he seemed to be able to stack the perfect breaths, nothing else extraordinary happened.

Unlike when he learned his first breath, he didn’t even feel like he was progressing toward a goal.

’Maybe I am looking at this in the entirely wrong way.’ Midas thought, frustrated from all of the thinking he had done.

During the time he practiced breathing, he had the free time to think.

He couldn’t help but think about the odd language used in the scroll. He could now understand the directions for the second breath, but that didn’t mean he knew the answers to the riddles scattered within.

’That language... the only other things I can relate to it number in two. Firstly, the voice that spoke to me after I defeated the trials of the Ashen Hollow. That voice has a similar grammar, it seems. Also, Dorian’s answer to his own question about superiority. When he spoke about what leads to supremacy. That also seems worthwhile...’

At that moment, a realization clicked.
