Chapter 93: Injured Young Master
"Are you blind?" Lucius asked calmly, causing her to shudder in fear, realizing she’d said something she shouldn’t have. "You can clearly see the state my hand is in, yet you still ask if I’m alright? Did you decide to jest right now?" If a maid made such a joke, she sure was a peculiar one, Lucius thought to himself.
"Young master, please forgive her; I’m sure she was only worried about your health," the male vassal stepped in, trying his best to save his colleague.
"I’m already aware of that," Lucius said with a frown.
’Does he think I’m stupid or something?’
Not wanting to waste more time, he instructed the dog-headed man to open his room door for him before instructing him further to get Su for him.
With that being said, he went towards his bed, eager to rest until Su arrived.
"Huahh..." he let out a tired breath the moment he sat down on his comfy bed.
Thinking back to all that had happened today, he felt helpless recalling that none of the vassals really saw him any differently today. Well, it was his fault since he did act a bit like his past self.
’Since the good guy act didn’t work on them, I tried coming off as I usually would but without the hostile intentions, and yet, none of them seem to be willing to forget what I’d done before. It’s as if they’ve decided to label me a troubled man until the very end.’
"Huahh..." Lucius let out a helpless sigh. Washing away one’s past was far harder than he’d expected.
"Young master, I’m here!" Just then, Su arrived, her distressed voice knocking him out of his thoughts.
"It’s nice to see you?" Lucius was bewildered when she grabbed his injured palm before giving him time to react.
"How did you hurt yourself this much?" she asked with a worried tone. "No, don’t answer that. Let’s get this all closed up first," Su said before glancing at the dog-headed man who followed her here. In his hands were a bowl of water, bandages, and medical cleaning agents. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Su took the bowl of water and used it to wash his hands; her face was quite focused as she made sure not to aggravate his wound.
"I’m sorry, but this part might not be as easy, young master," Su held the cleaning agents in hand.
"It’s okay; go right ahead," Lucius gave her the green light.
"Mmmh..." he winced yet quickly kept his mouth closed when she began applying the spirits and alcohol to the wound.
After that, she placed some bandages over the wound, then gently wiped his hand dry with the soft towel.
It might not have been a full first-aid treatment, but Lucius was glad that she did something at the very least.
"I’ve been wondering where you’ve been all this while."
"Forgive me for straying from your side, young master. After I heard you’d left the mansion, I went to help the kitchen staff prepare an afternoon meal for your family. Apparently, your father wishes—"
"For us all to dine together, now that my darling brother is back."
"...Yes," Su said with her head slightly lowered, as if waiting for him to lash out in anger after hearing the disastrous news.
"I see... But I promised Emily we’d have lunch together every day."
"That..." His reply was quite unexpected, both for her and the servant, who had no idea who Emily was in the first place.
Su, on the other hand, began to secretly worry, wondering whether he was planning to avoid the meal and shift the blame for his lack of attendance to Emily afterwards.
"I’m sure Emily would understand, young master," Su said with a smile, yet one could see the anxiousness hidden behind that very smile.
"No, I made a promise to her. I can’t simply break it when it hasn’t been long yet," Lucius shook his head adamantly.
"Su, be a dear and fetch me Emily."
"I know it might be presumptuous of me to ask, young master, but what for?" Su asked with a hint of apprehensiveness in her tone.
"Of course, so that I can keep my promise," Lucius replied. He was still in the process of keeping one promise; he had no intention of breaking another.
’Two promises, actually,’ Lucius said to himself. Besides, he’d been meaning to see the little angel for a while now. After spending each time together, he’d long since grown fond of the little cutie.
"She’ll be joining me as well as the rest of the family," Lucius stood up and announced courageously.
"W-WHAT?!" both Su and the servant exclaimed in disbelief, while the other servant became even more confused as to who this special person was to gain so much of the cold-hearted young lord’s attention.
---
The Morningstar family were all seated together at the dining table, with Lucius’s mother and father sitting next to each other.
He and his brother Leo sat opposite each other from across the table, while Lily and Lavender sat on the same side as Lucius.
"Darling..." Lucius’s mother spoke up within the awkward dining atmosphere.
"Yes, Mother," Lucius replied calmly.
"Is there a reason you decided to bring this young child here with us?" said his mother with a tense smile on her face while she glanced at Emily, who sat in Lucius’s lap as he fed her.
The more the lady watched, the more distraught her expression became, not understanding her son’s intentions. Lancelot, on the other hand, looked intrigued by the development. Lily and Lavender didn’t say anything, though they were curious. Leo, on the other hand, had a scowl on his forehead, wondering what his brother was up to this time and why he needed a child to do it.
"She was hungry, so I decided to feed her," Lucius tilted his head and answered, as if the fact was as plain as day.
"You know that’s not what she asked," while Leo didn’t have a warm relationship with his stepmother, he still felt the need to intervene.
