Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 743 - 742
In the original text, he bewitched Sun Wukong’s eyes, leaving Wukong unable to see anything, and Tang Monk was captured by that yellow weasel.
Later, someone was entrusted from above to administer eye medicine to Sun Wukong, who then cured his eye disease. He then went to borrow a Wind-Calming Pill from Lingji Bodhisattva, a truly valuable treasure, which just happened to be what Chen Nuo needed.
Thus, it seemed that the only option was to head to Gao Laozhuang to join up with Tang Monk, and then to snatch his treasure.
Chen Nuo followed Sha Wujing to Gao Laozhuang, and both of them concealed their aura, making them look no different from ordinary mortals.
Upon arriving there, they came across the Six-Eared Macaque who was begging for alms. Chen Nuo and Sha Wujing walked past him.
There were many street vendors, but begging for alms was not an easy task; everyone was there to do business, and if you offered money, anything could be discussed. But if you asked for something for free, it was not so simple.
Moreover, the Six-Eared Macaque’s disguise did not resemble a monk at all, and even if Xuanzang himself had come to beg for alms, he probably wouldn’t have had as much trouble as the Six-Eared Macaque was having.
But the Six-Eared Macaque was, after all, Xuanzang’s disciple and knew well what his duties were, so even though begging for alms was more troublesome than it was for most people, he didn’t give up.
Chen Nuo passed by a small stall, bought a few baked buns, and walked past the Six-Eared Macaque with Sha Wujing, overhearing the Six-Eared Macaque speaking with a vendor.
"I am a monk on a Journey to the West for Scriptures, and I am inquiring if you have any food here. My master still needs to eat, please help."
There was nothing inherently wrong with what he said, but the issue was that he looked nothing like a monk, so naturally, people were disinclined to believe him when he came begging.
Chen Nuo walked past the Six-Eared Macaque with the baked buns, just as he heard him saying this to the vendor, and pretended to be surprised, "You’re a monk?"
The Six-Eared Macaque nodded, "I and my master are going to the Western Heaven for Scriptures and have stopped here to beg for alms."
"I see," Chen Nuo said, placing the baked buns he had bought into the Six-Eared Macaque’s alms bowl. "I bought too many baked buns, and my brother and I won’t be able to finish them. Since your master hasn’t eaten yet, you better take these for him to eat."
The Six-Eared Macaque accepted the baked buns, bowed, and thanked Chen Nuo.
For him, the most bothersome daily task was to go out and beg for alms. He knew that by simply saving a bit of money, he could buy food from the street vendors, yet begging was required of him.
He wasn’t genuinely a monk, so he didn’t understand the significance of this routine.
Eventually, he just gave up caring.
At first, when begging for alms, he would make an effort to dress up like a typical monk. Later, he dispensed with the disguise, preferring to face more rejection rather than pretend to be an ordinary monk.
Even dressed as he was, he would still end up getting something in the end. The reason for this, the Six-Eared Macaque could guess without even thinking.
He didn’t need to eat, drink, or even sleep.
But Xuanzang was different; he was a real mortal who needed to do all the things mortals must do.
If he failed to get food, then Xuanzang would go hungry. Once or twice might be okay, but too often, and it would lead to health issues, and the authorities above certainly wouldn’t allow anything to happen to Xuanzang,
So, as long as there was food to be begged each time he went out, regardless of his appearance, everything was fine in the end.
However, because it happened so frequently, the food was always provided by the same person, and that person always gave only after the Six-Eared Macaque had asked several others.
This had become an unspoken agreement; after all, appearances still had to be maintained to some extent.
But he didn’t expect that while he was begging in his usual way, someone would actually give him food in the middle of it.
Since someone had already given food, it was not his turn to deliver a meal.
The Immortal Official, seeing this situation, thought he finally didn’t need to work overtime at noon and returned gleefully, not bothering to look at anything else.
"Thank you." The Six-Eared Macaque was also incredibly surprised, he had never imagined that one day he would actually be able to use this monkey face to ask for food.
"You’re welcome, but since you are going to the Western Heaven for Scriptures, where did you come from?" Chen Nuo asked, pretending to be very curious.
"Chang’an," the Six-Eared Macaque answered.
"Really? I’ve never met anyone from Chang’an before." Chen Nuo said, looking very surprised; he turned to glance at Sha Wujing and then spoke.
"Since our meeting is a coincidence, why don’t we do this? I’ll treat you to a meal! Please, come with me."
The Six-Eared Macaque had heard this invitation countless times, but this was a mortal!
A real mortal, extending such an offer; it was only the second time.
"Well, are you coming or not?" Chen Nuo asked, "Don’t worry too much, we’re just passing by."
After saying so much, the Six-Eared Macaque couldn’t stay silent, he even felt like putting the baked wheat cake he had received back into Chen Nuo’s hands.
"I don’t know if my master would be willing, better not," the Six-Eared Macaque thought it over and still chose to refuse.
"What kind of reason is that to refuse?" Chen Nuo said with a laugh, "How about this, I will go back with you, and I’d like to meet your master as well."
The Six-Eared Macaque couldn’t detect any demon aura from this person, figuring he was probably just very enthusiastic; they could not reveal their identities, so they had to take Chen Nuo and Sha Wujing back with them.
Xuanzang was waiting for the Six-Eared Macaque to bring him food, but unexpectedly, the Six-Eared Macaque brought back two people instead; he looked at the two of them.
The leading one had a strikingly handsome appearance, tall and well-proportioned, standing out even within a crowd.
The one behind had a less impressive look, but he was still tall and well-built, not as notable as the first, but also possessing a physique that made him stand out.
Xuanzang was very puzzled, "Wukong, I asked you to beg for alms, why did you bring back two people?"
"Greetings, master. I saw this little monk begging for alms on the street, and he said you were from Chang’an. I’ve never seen people of Chang’an before, so out of curiosity, I followed them here," Chen Nuo said with a smile as he stepped forward to speak with Xuanzang.
With the visitors having arrived, Xuanzang had no choice but to greet them with a bow, "Amitābha, I’ve met the donor."
The Six-Eared Macaque handed the wheat cake to Xuanzang and explained, "So this is the donor who gave the cake."
Xuanzang hurriedly bowed again to Chen Nuo, "Thank you to the donors."
"Hey, no need to mention it; I just happened to see and came to help. By the way, I also have water here, master, would you like some?"
With just a piece of dry wheat cake, Xuanzang would definitely need water to eat it, so he thanked Chen Nuo as well.
Chen Nuo smiled and waved his hand, then took out his leather water flask and poured a bowl full, then handed it to Xuanzang.
Xuanzang took the bowl, about to drink, when suddenly he smelled the fragrance of peach blossoms and paused.
Chen Nuo waited for Xuanzang to drink, but seeing that he had stopped, was about to ask when he too smelled the peach blossom fragrance and then he had a sudden realization.
