Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 777 - 776: No Words, Just Kill Them Directly
"Master, she, she is a monster!" Six-Eared Macaque said, "If she were a decent person, your disciple would have no reason to harm her. However, just now while talking to her, your disciple suddenly saw the monster reveal her true form. That’s why I had to kill her, to prevent her from harming you later."
Xuanzang was somewhat doubtful. He had just talked to the girl, and everything seemed fine; how could she possibly be a monster?
He felt very perplexed in his heart, so he turned his gaze to Chen Nuo, "Mr. Chen, according to your opinion, do you think this person is a monster or a real human being?"
"Me?" Chen Nuo laughed a little, then said, "Elder, as someone with mortal eyes, how could I possibly discern whether this woman is a monster or a human."
Xuanzang was actually shocked by Chen Nuo’s statement. It was the first time he saw someone claim ignorance so confidently, "Then, Mr. Chen, according to your views, did this woman show any signs of being a monster?"
"I am even more uncertain of that. Monsters are used to disguising themselves. If we are unable to see through it, that’s probably normal. Of course, I’m not referring to this young lady."
With just a few words, Chen Nuo completely cleared himself, making it awkward for Xuanzang to deal with Six-Eared Macaque. As for whether the woman was human or demon, he was merely guessing.
Yet previously at Master Zhenyuan’s place, he had misunderstood his own disciple based on his guesses, which now made things difficult to handle.
"Master, shall we continue on our journey? It’s getting dark. Whether this girl is a monster or not, we can discuss it tomorrow," Six-Eared Macaque suggested.
This proposal indeed offered Xuanzang a way out as he had started the conversation but was now stuck in an awkward place because the others didn’t follow his line of reasoning.
"Alright then, it is indeed getting late. Let’s hurry on our way, and we can discuss everything else tomorrow," Xuanzang said.
Six-Eared Macaque was somewhat surprised; he had thought his master would dwell on this matter for a long time, yet unexpectedly, he agreed with his own suggestion. He glanced at Chen Nuo again. Could this be thanks to the mortal?
Chen Nuo shrugged his shoulders; he didn’t want to get involved in this matter at all, and since White Bone Essence carried no Magic Artifact on her, her sole purpose seemed to be to create a rift between Xuanzang and his disciple, nothing more.
However, such a simple matter could drag on for days, so he didn’t want to waste time on this issue. It was best to move on as soon as possible.
The three continued walking and suddenly saw an elderly woman ahead, around seventy or eighty years old, anxiously looking around.
"Old lady, may I ask if you have encountered some trouble?" Xuanzang inquired, "You seem quite panicked; if you tell us what’s wrong, we’ll see if we can help. We will certainly assist you if we can."
"Oh my, I’m truly grateful; it’s like encountering a living Bodhisattva,"
said the woman as tears welled in her eyes, "My daughter went down the mountain to bring food to my son-in-law, and neither has returned since. I’m terribly worried, so I came down to look for them."
Xuanzang felt the story sounded a bit familiar, and suddenly, he recalled the girl his disciple had just killed, who seemed to have been bringing food to her husband.
For a moment, Xuanzang became alarmed. What on earth was going on? Could it be that the girl was not a monster but had been wrongfully killed by his disciple?
And now the girl’s mother had come looking; how was he to explain this to the elderly woman?
He was so angry at the moment that he didn’t know how to explain himself; he only turned back and glared coldly at the Six-Eared Macaque, as if to say, "Look at the fine mess you’ve caused."
When the Six-Eared Macaque saw that the young girl he had just killed had family searching for her, he too was a bit puzzled. But then he figured it out, thinking that perhaps the girl had been possessed by a monster, and he had revealed her true nature and killed her with a single blow.
The old woman who was looking for her, he realized, must be seeking her daughter who had not been possessed.
The more he thought about it, the more he felt his earlier explanation made sense. So he said to the old woman, "Granny, don’t panic. Please tell me what your daughter looked like and what clothes she was wearing. I need to remember if I have seen this young woman on my way here."
So the old woman began to describe the clothes her daughter wore and her appearance. What she described indeed closely matched the young girl the Six-Eared Macaque had just killed. It could only be said that the Six-Eared Macaque had indeed made a grave mistake.
Xuanzang was even more panicked and felt a bit guilty because, in truth, he had tacitly consented when his disciple killed the young woman just a while ago.
But at that time, he really thought she was a monster; he had never imagined that she could be a mortal. In any case, the current situation made it impossible for him to resolve it smoothly. He truly could not imagine what it would be like for this old woman, weeping and begging him for her daughter.
"She too is a monster," Chen Nuo suddenly said while the Six-Eared Macaque and Xuanzang had yet to react.
The Six-Eared Macaque looked at Chen Nuo in surprise, "How do you know?"
Xuanzang was also puzzled, "Mr. Chen, didn’t you just tell me that with your mortal eyes you could not clearly see? Why are you now so certain that she is a monster?"
The three of them spoke in very low voices, ensuring that the old woman would not hear them.
Chen Nuo replied with a smile, "Just now, she said her daughter was only seventeen or eighteen years old."
"Yes, so? What’s strange about that?" asked the Six-Eared Macaque, not understanding what was significant about the girl being seventeen or eighteen.
"Take another look at this old woman. How old do you think she is? Even at her worst, she must be in her seventies or eighties, right? So think about it, could she possibly have given birth to her daughter in her fifties or sixties?"
This indeed made perfect sense. Xuanzang nodded, following Mr. Lin’s reasoning, the old woman should also be a monster.
But as it turned out, proving that they were both monsters would justify that his disciple had not been indiscriminately killing the innocent but had acted to protect himself.
Hearing this, the Six-Eared Macaque turned to look at the old woman and sure enough, as he turned, there seemed to be a momentary change in her. She momentarily transformed from a skeleton to a mortal.
Once the Six-Eared Macaque heard she was a monster, he picked up his weapon, charged at the monster, and struck her down with a single blow.
Although she was a monster, the woman still appeared human at the moment, so the bloody scene that unfolded before Xuanzang still left him somewhat at a loss. Fortunately, with Mr. Chen’s reassurance, Xuanzang felt a bit better and held no ill will toward the Six-Eared Macaque.
The three of them continued on their way and soon encountered a middle-aged man who also looked anxious as if searching for something.
