Chapter 778: Chapter 777 Family Missing

Xuanzang at this moment felt like he was faced with a huge problem. What on earth was going on today? He had only encountered this one issue.

The Six-Eared Macaque also found it strange, but if this was the work of a demon, it would make sense. He held his weapon and walked ahead, smiling as he asked, "Old brother, you look quite anxious, have you run into some trouble? We monks have come from a long way, if you tell us, maybe we can help you."

"My family is missing, I couldn’t sit still at home, so I went out to search for them, but I found nothing. My heart is in turmoil, I’m worried that they might have been taken by wolves," the man said.

The eyes of the Six-Eared Macaque shifted as he spoke, "Those three family members of yours, are they your daughter, son-in-law, and old wife, with your daughter being seventeen or eighteen, and your old wife in her seventies or eighties?"

The man nodded vigorously, his face full of excitement, "Yes, yes, that’s them. You see, it was predicted that I would have no children in this life. I kept praying to Buddha, and now in my old age, I finally have a daughter, a treasure cherished by our entire family. When she came of age, we found her a husband who moved in with us. Today she went to deliver a meal to her husband, but for some reason, she hasn’t returned. My old wife went to look for her and she hasn’t come back either, and here I am, unable to sit still and out searching as well."

The Six-Eared Macaque laughed and patted the man’s shoulder, "Stop looking."

The man did not understand what that meant, only to see the glaring bright blade of a knife chopping down towards him, and then he was directly cut to death.

"I’m sending you down to reunite with your wife and daughter now!"

The man was instantly struck down, with crimson blood gushing out beneath him.

"Alas, Wukong, why have you killed him now? What if the previous two were demons in disguise, but this one wasn’t? How do we handle that?" Xuanzang hastily said.

"It won’t be a problem," Chen Nuo stated. "Elder, please look at that man’s corpse."

Xuanzang thus lowered his head to look at the corpse, and in just that brief moment, the man’s body was torn and flesh separated in a way that did not resemble the appearance of a normal death.

At this point, Xuanzang also breathed a sigh of relief; as long as his disciples hadn’t killed a mortal, it was alright.

The three of them then continued on their way.

While they were proceeding just fine, the observers above grew restless.

Not to mention the protectors of the Five Directions and the various celestial soldiers were caught off guard, even Bodhisattva Guanyin was slightly stunned.

Why were they not following the script?

The protector recalled that this was supposed to be a critical time for observation since at this juncture, the Six-Eared Macaque should have parted ways with Xuanzang, causing a rift between the master and pupil. How could they be traveling together so harmoniously?

Bodhisattva Guanyin was indeed both pleased and disappointed.

He was glad that the person he found later was indeed talented, but he was disappointed that this person had done the job too well, explaining everything away with just a few words.

However, it was to be expected, since Tian Peng should have been present at this time. Tian Peng, being unrestrained in speech and often lacking in moderation, would have certainly created a rift between the master and disciple, preparing for the next ordeal.

What followed was the matter of Kuimu Wolf and Baihua Xiu.

Originally, one was the Kui Star in the heavens, and the other was a fairy of Baihua Palace, but they had secretly fallen in love. This was already a violation of the heavenly laws. To separate the two, the authorities sent Baihua Xiu down to the mortal world.

Kuimu Wolf managed to stealthily descend to the human world for thirteen years and then found Baihua Xiu, who had turned into a mortal. Seizing the opportunity, he kidnapped her and also occupied a mountain so they could be together.

Kuimu Wolf was very strong in combat. According to the original story, he could fight twenty Zhu Bajies alone. Therefore, after Wukong left, Sha Wujing and Zhu Bajie together couldn’t defeat Kuimu Wolf. Even Tang Monk’s transformation into a fierce tiger later on was due to Kuimu Wolf. But now that Wukong has not left, can Kuimu Wolf still kidnap Tang Monk?

Bodhisattva Guanyin was uncertain about the current situation but thought that the Six-Eared Macaque probably couldn’t beat Kuimu Wolf. It seemed that only her side could provide help in this situation.

The three of them were unaware of what would happen next and continued their journey. They finally found a village to rest in and planned to set off again the next day.

Chen Nuo was waiting for Kuimu Wolf’s affair the next day, but he suddenly realized that there were many other unresolved issues. Tang Monk would certainly be hungry tomorrow, and it wouldn’t be wise to let him go alone. Moreover, he was after Kuimu Wolf’s Exquisite Inner Alchemy, so when the time came, he would have to make sure that he entered the cave with Tang Monk.

While resting at a villager’s home, Chen Nuo suggested, "Looking at the star-filled sky, tomorrow will surely be a sunny day. When we set off tomorrow, let’s prepare some more dry food to avoid bothering your disciple with alms-seeking under the intense sun."

Xuanzang thought it over and agreed that Chen Nuo made a lot of sense. He nodded and then said to the Six-Eared Macaque, "Wukong, I think the gentleman’s suggestion is quite right. Why don’t you ask the villager for more steamed buns and such, so we don’t have to beg for food in the wild tomorrow?"

So the Six-Eared Macaque got up to ask the villager for dry food. While he was getting the food, he began to see the human in a new light. He hadn’t expected the human to be so thoughtful about every matter. Take today’s fight against the monster, for instance. If it had been just him and his master, his master would surely have misunderstood him. But with the human present, not only was it clarified in a few words that the beaten was indeed a monster, but his master was also appeased. Being capable of that was indeed no simple feat.

After getting the dry food, the three of them packed up and went to sleep. The next day, the sun shone bright and high, just as Chen Nuo had predicted—it was a beautiful day, albeit a bit too hot.

The trio continued on their journey, reaching a valley. The Six-Eared Macaque was unbearably hot; his fur made him even more susceptible to the heat, and under the sun, he felt as if he was roasting on a fire. He said, "Master, it’s too hot. How about we take a break?"

Xuanzang nodded. "Indeed, with the weather being so scorching, we should rest for a while."

They stopped to rest, and Xuanzang, parched, found the water bottle empty. He chuckled, "Yesterday we only thought of getting dry food and forgot to fill the water bottle. Wukong, could you find us some water?"

The Six-Eared Macaque took the water bottle from Xuanzang’s hand and replied, "Okay, Master. I’ll look for water. You and Mr. Chen just wait here, but please don’t wander far."

"Don’t worry, as your teacher, I’m not a three-year-old child who would just wander off."

Despite his words, the Six-Eared Macaque was worried that Xuanzang might just do that. He glanced uneasily at Xuanzang, then turned to Chen Nuo and said, "Mr. Chen, I’ll find water for my master. Please take care of him and make sure he doesn’t wander off."
