Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 779 - 778: Captured
"Alright, I remember now. You go ahead, I’ll take good care of the elder." Chen Nuo said.
Reassured by Chen Nuo’s words, the Six-Eared Macaque finally went to search for water.
Chen Nuo looked at the scenery around him and couldn’t help saying, "It seems I really made the right decision to follow the elder. If not for you guys, I might never have seen such beautiful scenery in my whole life."
Xuanzang laughed, "That’s not necessarily true, Mr. Chen. Since you could make it here, it means you have a fate with this place. Even if you didn’t follow this humble monk, you would probably still have found a way here by a twist of fate. It’s your connection with this mountain that matters, not anything else."
Chen Nuo thought about it and nodded, "What the elder said is true. Such a simple truth, and yet I failed to realize it. I really am ignorant."
Xuanzang smiled and began to speak of the Buddhist Scriptures to Chen Nuo.
Chen Nuo didn’t even know how to continue the conversation at that point. He had only said what he did to set up his excuse to leave later, but he hadn’t expected Xuanzang to so smoothly steer the conversation towards the Buddhist Scriptures. Was this really the professional cultivation of an ascetic? It truly was impressive.
Xuanzang talked for a while, to the point of dry mouth and parched tongue. He stopped and looked up at the sun, unable to refrain from saying, "How can it take so long to find water? Could there really be no stream at all in these mountains?"
"The sun is blazing over us right now. It must be hard to see anything clearly deep in the mountains, so it will probably take some time to find water. I still have a bit of water here, elder. You drink some of mine first." Chen Nuo said, offering his water flask to Xuanzang.
Xuanzang initially didn’t intend to accept, but after hearing Chen Nuo say that he could drink from his disciple’s flask once they found water, Xuanzang thought there was some logic to that and took the flask without further word, starting to drink.
The two waited a bit longer, and Chen Nuo said, "The scenery here is really nice. I want to look around a bit. You wait here, elder. I’ll be back in a bit."
"Mr. Chen, didn’t Wukong say that we should not wander off?" Xuanzang quickly said, "Let’s just wait here a bit longer. He’ll be back soon."
"He told us not to wander off, but wasn’t he saying that to you? Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon." Chen Nuo said with a smile.
Xuanzang could do nothing but watch as Chen Nuo left. After all, they were in the mountains; the Six-Eared Macaque had only gone to look for water and should have been able to find it quickly, but for some reason, he had been gone for a long time without finding a source.
With no choice, he had to jump to a higher place to look for water. He couldn’t find anything from the lower ground, and since he couldn’t ride the clouds like Wukong, he had to use the most foolish method. Fortunately, it was a lot easier to find water from up high, and it only took a little while to locate a water source. The Six-Eared Macaque happily went to fill his flask. However, when he returned, he found that the two people had vanished, and only a white horse was left at the scene.
The Six-Eared Macaque thought that the two might have been captured by a supernatural creature; in a moment, he forgot about the water and hurried off to search for them.
In fact, it wasn’t that the two had been caught by a supernatural creature; rather, they had unknowingly ended up at the creature’s doorstep.
After Chen Nuo had left the area, he went searching for Kuimu Wolf’s cave nearby. According to the original story, there should be a Buddhist pagoda standing tall in the distance—because of this pagoda,
Xuanzang had only just walked into the den of the demon, but he had been searching around for a while and still had not seen any Buddhist pagoda. He felt perplexed and thought to himself that the Buddhist pagoda wouldn’t appear only if he did, would it?
Chen Nuo, refusing to believe in curses, searched the area again. Even using the Teleportation Bagua Formation was futile. He had familiarized himself with every leaf on the nearby tree, but still, he couldn’t find the Buddhist pagoda.
After searching for a while, Chen Nuo suddenly saw a bright light appear before his eyes. Looking closely, it was the Buddhist pagoda. After searching for so long without success, the pagoda had suddenly appeared on its own. Without thinking, it had to mean that Xuanzang had also come out. If he hadn’t, something like this would never have appeared here.
Regardless, now that the thing had appeared, Chen Nuo didn’t bother with anything else and simply walked towards the Buddhist pagoda.
Once there, a few demons that looked somewhat human welcomed him into the cave. A brawny demon with a fierce look, grey and black fur, and protruding fangs approached him, "Monk, we have finally caught you."
Chen Nuo was startled by the demon’s words. He touched his face. Could it be that he really looked like a monk?
The demon wasn’t shocked by Chen Nuo’s surprise. It scrutinized him as he wore a greenish-blue robe and a small hair crown on his head. Although the style was simple, it was not at all crude, and he carried an aura of nobility and style.
The demon had never seen the Tang Monk but had encountered other monks. Seeing Chen Nuo, it only felt bewildered.
How strange. Aren’t monks supposed to be baldheaded ascetics, usually travel-worn with humble demeanors? But this man exuded an air of nobility, almost like he wasn’t a monk at all but rather an emperor from the mortal world.
"Are you the monk from the Tang Dynasty?" the demon asked.
"I’m not, though I am from the Tang Dynasty. I’m not a monk. Can’t you see well enough to tell if I’m a monk or not?"
The demon was taken aback, gave Chen Nuo a look and said, "If you’re not a monk, what are you doing here? I thought you were that Tang Dynasty monk."
"Who knows what you’re up to here. I just happen to be passing by and accidentally stumbled over to this place," Chen Nuo replied unabashedly, not mentioning at all that he had been searching the place for a long time without success.
The demon, while looking at the man, hesitated to let him go. So it called over its subordinates, "Minions, take this man to the back. When I catch that monk, we’ll kill both together and feast. One monk isn’t enough for all of us to eat!"
After shouting those words, a group of lesser demons promptly tied up Chen Nuo and took him away.
Chen Nuo waited for a while and was about to check the whereabouts of Baihua Xiu when he suddenly heard noises outside. Then he saw that Xuanzang had also arrived.
At first, Xuanzang was terribly afraid after being captured. But upon seeing Chen Nuo, he suddenly felt less frightened, "Mr. Chen, why are you here too?"
His question was too casual, making Chen Nuo feel as if they had run into each other while he was out for a stroll, asking casually how coincidental it was to meet him here. Chen Nuo coughed to disperse his thoughts and then said, "Just now I saw what seemed like a Buddhist pagoda over here, and I wanted to come in and see what it was like. But it was actually a demon’s cave, and so I was caught and brought here."
