Kiss the Scumbag-Chapter 125
It was surprising news, but Georgina couldn’t quite understand why her mother was so shocked. She tilted her head and spoke up.
“Isn’t this something Winston already expected when he got married? That was the condition of the will. If he never planned to have a child, he wouldn’t have married in the first place.”
“W-well, that’s true,”
Lady Katherine stammered unusually. She had vaguely anticipated this situation but wasn’t prepared for it. When she first learned about the marriage, Lady Campbell informed the children that it was an unavoidable matter, but now that it had become reality, the shock was significant.
Did Mother receive this invitation as well?
Lady Katherine sank back into her chair and seriously scanned the invitation again. Georgina wondered if her mother would react like herself or maintain her usual cold composure. Perhaps Lady Campbell might even be pleased that the will was being fulfilled. After all, Lady Campbell had already declared she would abandon the child. If her goal was achieved, she could easily overlook any minor discomforts in the process. That was the kind of woman Lady Katherine thought Lady Campbell to be.
So that’s why she lived her whole life with her father, despite hating him so much.
After confirming the unchanged words with her eyes and pondering for a moment, Lady Katherine couldn’t hold back and stood up.
“Mother, where are you going?”
Georgina’s question went unanswered as Lady Katherine disappeared. Momentarily startled, Georgina wasn’t the type to give up. She quickly followed her mother and stepped out of the breakfast room. Lady Katherine was already far ahead, and all Georgina could see was her shadow disappearing up the stairs, but she didn’t hesitate to move forward. Where Lady Katherine was headed was completely predictable. Georgina quietly opened the bedroom door and, upon hearing her mother’s voice, thought, “Of course,” and listened carefully. Lady Katherine, absorbed in a phone call, didn’t notice her daughter’s presence and kept talking loudly.
“Do you realize how absurd this is, Gordon? No matter what, to have a Campbell family child...”
“Calm down,”
Thankfully, Lady Katherine was using the speakerphone. Perhaps she thought it didn’t matter since she was alone. Thanks to that, Georgina could hear every word of their conversation. Gordon continued.
“You knew it would come to this already. Why are you acting like this all of a sudden?”
At her brother’s words, Lady Katherine groaned and pressed one hand to her forehead.
“What did Mother say?”
Gordon answered the deflated question.
“No particular reaction. She just said we should focus on the inheritance.”
When Lady Katherine said nothing, Gordon added,
“Our goal is clear. Don’t worry too much. Nothing will happen.”
“Do you really think so?”
Only then did Lady Katherine ask with an unwilling tone.
“I want to believe Winston won’t be shaken by that, but I don’t know. You heard about the Halloween party, right? He even held a birthday party for that child. If it was just for the will, he wouldn’t have gone that far.”
Her voice, which she tried to keep calm, gradually rose and trembled with emotion. Georgina seriously wondered if she should rush in if her mother fainted or pretend not to notice, but fortunately, nothing happened.
“Of course. That bothers me too.”
Gordon acknowledged slowly.
“But what can we do? We just have to hope things go well. Since she’s pregnant, Mother will take care of the rest.”
“How?”
Lady Katherine asked anxiously, and Gordon chuckled.
“Katherine, think about it. Once trust is broken, it’s hard to restore. Winston has already lost all trust in Yujin. Even if he’s wavering now, it won’t take much to bring him back. I guarantee it; I’d bet a million dollars.”
“Stop gambling, Gordon.”
Lady Katherine warned in a displeased tone, but seemed somewhat relieved as her shoulders relaxed. Seeing her lowered shoulders, Georgina listened carefully as she continued.
“That’s right. Mother won’t just stand by and watch.”
“Yeah.”
Gordon spoke comfortingly.
“We’ve already succeeded once. The first time is always the hardest; from the second time on, it’s easier.”
“You’re right.”
Lady Katherine’s voice held a laugh. Thinking Lady Campbell would do something made Georgina feel secure. Though relieved, there was still more to come.
“What about Jason? Is he okay?”
“For now.”
Lady Katherine sighed and added like a complaint.
“Well, that’s a relief, but I worry about him the most. What if he makes a mistake while on drugs?”
“Don’t worry. That won’t happen.”
Gordon answered firmly.
“I’ve blocked all his ways to get drugs. When I said I’d put him in the hospital if he slipped up, he got scared. Mother says she’ll make him quit this time, but that’s not my problem. I just want him to stay put quietly until this is all over.”
“Hmm, well, that’s true.”
Lady Katherine spoke shortly but actually agreed completely with Gordon, and Gordon and Georgina knew it well.
“It’s good he’s quiet.”
“He’s not really quiet. The addict quit, but would he stay calm? I’m using some physical methods, but that’s just inevitable.”
Gordon kept chuckling. His voice showed no affection for his brother. Lady Katherine was no different. Their only concern was whether the inheritance would be secured without trouble, and nothing else.
After that, nothing remarkable happened. As the topic seemed to shift to trivial matters, Lady Katherine ended the call with a sigh and straightened up. Georgina held her breath as Lady Katherine, with her usual slow and elegant manner, leaned back on the couch and closed her eyes. Convinced nothing more would happen, Georgina backed away from the door.
What on earth happened?
Her heart pounding, she crossed the hallway. She had known for some time that something was going on between the adults, but could never figure out what. After meeting Yujin, she tried asking questions and searching drawers, but found little. Today she seemed to have gained something, but it was still vague.
Whatever it was, it was definitely something huge.
Georgina entered her room and pondered deeply. At this rate, she’d never find out what that incident was. The adults would never speak.
Except for one.
Though she didn’t want to use that method, she couldn’t resist her curiosity. Would knowing one more mouth that held the truth really change anything? They would never know that Georgina knew, anyway.
Besides, no one truly worried about Jason. If she could help this time, it wouldn’t be so bad. After all, he was her uncle and family.
Having thought that far, Georgina made up her mind and picked up her phone. After skipping a few names in her contacts, she found one but had to take a deep breath before calling.
“Hoo.”
Taking a deep breath, chest rising and falling, she pressed the button. After a monotone ring, her classmate’s voice came through.
“Jini! Heeeyyy! What’s up with you?”
Mimicking the classmate’s drawn-out greeting, Georgina ★ 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 ★ briefly asked how she was and then continued.
“I have a question. Remember I told you before, there’s someone selling drugs at school.”
This was the first time Georgina had done something like this. The thrill made her breath quicken. She barely held back her excitement and asked.
“Do you happen to know how to contact them?”
