Chapter 128: 128: Caught in a trap- Part 1

Liam calmly headed to the location he had been given by Zane, but as soon as he arrived at that corridor, he could tell that he had been duped.

There was no sign of anyone being near him, and Liam could not even feel any magic in the air. Even his system had crashed out by now... either that, or there was truly no one around.

It was obvious which option it was for him.

"Oi, Liam, it seems like no one is around here. Looks like that human actually managed to use his brain for once and cause trouble for us. What are you going to do now?"

Asger asked from Liam’s shoulder. He looked around the corridor, and the walls were the only things that emitted a magical signature.

Liam sighed as he looked around for an answer. But once he was sure he was not going to get any, it was time for him to head back and look for a new way around... or so he thought.

But as soon as he turned around, he felt magic interacting with his own, and before he knew it, he was in a magical prison.

The world around him did not look like a prison, but Liam was sure he was not moving, even as he tried to walk to the exit.

"Looks like someone prepared a surprise for us by locking us in here. As much as I enjoy this, I am not in the mood for it right now. So, should I break out of this prison? What do you say, Asger?"

Liam asked as he pressed his hand against the wall to check how durable the magic was.

The magic bent under the force he applied, but it regained its shape the very next second. It was a troublesome magic that seemed flexible and annoying to deal with.

Perhaps someone else would have had trouble taking care of this, but Liam had no problem breaking this place apart.

But just as he reached out his hand to apply more force, Liam stopped and looked at the end of the corridor. Asger looked there as well, and they both noticed the sudden flare of a magical signature approaching them.

The pair tensed and waited for that magic signature to do something. But they kept on watching as the signature walked past them and even through Liam’s chest.

It felt weird, and Liam reached out his hand toward his chest to recapture the sensation he had felt.

But no matter how much he tried, he could not get rid of the tingling he felt as that magic signature passed through him.

"What was that? That did not feel natural. Asger, I have a feeling this situation is much more complicated than we first expected it to be. Are we in the middle of a crowded corridor? Then, will breaking the barrier cause a mess?"

Liam asked as he tried to feel around and check the outside world. He noticed a few weak magical signatures outside and around him.

"Tsk, that human turned out to be a little more cunning than we expected. He is holding all these people hostage to ensure that we do not try to break out of here. And if you disregard these people’s safety, then you will likely be declared a criminal because you hurt them all. What a messy situation. I told you we should not have trusted those humans."

Asger spoke with as much uneasiness in his voice as he could manage. He did not sound happy, and for good reasons.

Liam sighed as he heard the half-dragon complain, but he also sat back down cross-legged. This situation was one where he could do nothing but wait for someone to come to his rescue or for the break to end.

Once he was free to break out of here, he could use his magic and overwhelm this place.

But until then, Liam was stuck in this place with no way out and nothing to do either.

Sigh

’I guess I can take advantage of this situation and practice my mana control. It has been some time since I went back to the basics and did those exercises.’

Liam remained seated, legs crossed as he examined the magical prison that held him.

The barrier still pulsed with energy, and the presence of weak magical signatures outside ensured that he couldn’t simply break his way out without harming innocent people.

His fingers lightly traced the air, feeling for weaknesses in the spellwork.

"This is annoying. You’re seriously just sitting here and waiting?"

Asger muttered, his tail flicking irritably.

Liam let out a slow breath.

"For now."

Asger scoffed but didn’t push further. Liam wasn’t going to act recklessly—yet.

Meanwhile, Zane Lysander practically dragged Seraphina down the hallway toward their secret meeting place. His steps were light, and the usual smirk stretched across his face.

Seraphina, on the other hand, narrowed her eyes at him.

"Alright. You look way too happy. What did you do? Is it something dangerous? Is so, then you should stop before you get hurt."

She said, arms crossed as she followed. She knew her friend well. So she gave him the warning as soon as she saw that something happened.

Zane glanced at her, feigning innocence.

"What? Can’t a guy just be in a good mood?"

Seraphina raised an eyebrow. Zane had gotten good at pretending that he did nothing. But she was not going to fall for this again.

So with a clear voice, she decided to ask him what he did again.

"No. Not you. Not when we’re dealing with Ethan. So, spill."

Zane chuckled, but his response was dismissive.

"You overthink things too much, Sera."

He did not give Serephina a clear answer. But she had not expected one either.

Seraphina rolled her eyes, not believing him for a second. Something was up, but she let it go for now. They arrived at the meeting place, pushing open the heavy wooden door and stepping inside.

The atmosphere was tense.
