Chapter 129: 129: Caught in a trap- Part 2

The usual hum of quiet chatter and mischievous grins was absent. Instead, several members of their little "society" were scattered around the room, whispering amongst themselves. Some glanced their way, their expressions guarded.

Zane ignored the shift in mood and strode forward, arms stretched above his head as he let out a loud, dramatic sigh.

"Wow, it’s way too serious in here! C’mon, lighten up, people."

Before he could do much to break the tension, a voice called from the back of the room.

"Zane."

Zane turned, grin widening at the sight of their leader. Ethan stood with his arms crossed, his cold gaze locked on Zane.

"Alone."

Ethan added.

Seraphina barely managed to get out a scoff before Zane practically skipped toward Ethan, looking like an eager puppy. She rolled her eyes again.

Zane followed Ethan into a smaller adjoining room. Once the door shut, he stood tall and saluted dramatically

"Alright, boss! You finally recognize my greatness, huh? What do you need? I’ll do anything for the cause!"

Ethan didn’t react to his antics. Instead, he let out a slow sigh, rubbing his temple before locking eyes with Zane.

"Find Nico Vale. Bring him here."

The enthusiasm drained from Zane’s face.

"What?"

"You heard me. Nico was supposed to give me an answer, and he’s avoiding me. Find him"

Ethan said, expression unreadable.

Zane’s lips curled into a frown.

"Why him? I can help. Whatever you need done, I can—"

"No."

The firmness in Ethan’s voice made Zane flinch slightly.

"This isn’t something you can help with. I need Nico. That’s it"

Ethan continued.

Zane clenched his fists.

"You don’t trust me?"

Ethan exhaled sharply, his patience clearly wearing thin.

"This has nothing to do with trust, Zane. You’re valuable, but not in this situation. Now, bring him to me by the end of the day."

A heavy silence settled between them.

Zane felt frustration clawing at his chest, but he didn’t argue. Instead, he gave a curt nod and turned on his heel, walking out without another word.

He re-entered the main hall, his good mood completely gone. His expression was tight, shoulders tense. Seraphina noticed immediately.

"Well, that was fast. What happened?"

She commented, her sharp eyes scanning his face.

Zane gritted his teeth, shoving his hands into his pockets.

"Nothing."

Seraphina frowned.

"Don’t lie to me."

"I’m not."

Zane said flatly.

Seraphina studied him, but when it became clear he wasn’t going to budge, she let out an annoyed sigh.

"Fine. Keep your secrets."

Zane didn’t respond. His mind was already elsewhere.

He had to find Nico.

And he wasn’t happy about it.

Zane walked through the academy grounds, a storm brewing in his chest. His footsteps were quicker than usual, frustration seeping into every movement.

Find Nico Vale.

He hated that name.

Not because Nico had done anything wrong. Not because he disliked the guy.

But because every time Ethan mentioned Nico, it was a reminder that Zane wasn’t enough.

He clenched his jaw, taking a deep breath to calm himself.

Focus.

Where would Nico be?

Well, the answer was clear- he was in that magical prison Zane had made for him. By now, the younger male must be losing his mind with no way out.

Either that, or Nico was about to become a criminal that had no way to clear his name.

Back in the magical prison, Liam remained still, eyes half-closed in thought. He had spent the last several minutes studying the energy surrounding him. The way it shifted, pulsed, and fluctuated—it wasn’t a perfect trap. It had weak spots.

"Asger."

Liam murmured.

"Hm?"

Liam tilted his head slightly, studying a particularly unstable part of the magic.

"I think I found a way out."

Asger perked up, interested.

"You gonna break it?"

Liam smirked faintly.

"Not yet."

Asger huffed.

"You enjoy making me wait, don’t you?"

Liam ignored him.

If he was going to break free, he had to do it in a way that wouldn’t harm the people outside. Whoever had set this up was trying to put him in a bind—either he stayed trapped, or he risked collateral damage.

But Liam wasn’t the type to accept only the choices given to him.

He would create a third option.

For now, though, he waited.

Because sometimes, patience was more dangerous than force.

Liam sat cross-legged within his magical prison, eyes closed, waiting.

The weight of the magic around him shifted slightly as the minutes ticked by, but he remained still, patient.

He had already mapped out the weaknesses in the spell—it was only a matter of choosing the right moment.

As soon as the bell rang, signaling the end of the break, Liam exhaled slowly.

Time to go.

Instead of brute-forcing his way out, Liam focused, threading his mana carefully into the structure of the barrier. His fingers twitched subtly, and the magic around him wavered.

Like pulling loose threads from a tapestry, he unraveled the prison bit by bit, controlling the collapse so that it did not alert the ones who had cast it.

A second passed.

Then another.

The prison shattered soundlessly, fading like mist.

Liam smirked.

"Too easy." frёeωebɳovel.com

"As expected. You have gotten good at using your magic and finding new ways to use it. So, what are you going to do now? Are you going to take revenge for what happened?"

Asger said, flicking his tail.

"Now. I go to class. I do not want to be late. I don’t think the professors would appreciate it if I am late to their class or cause a fuss."

Liam dusted off his sleeves.

Asger let out a huff.

"That’s all? You were locked up, and you’re not even a little mad? Why are you such a boring human? I wanted one that would at least plan something fun in return for being locked up like this."

Liam’s smirk widened.

"Oh, I’m mad. I just don’t act without thinking."

And with that, he casually walked back to class as if nothing had happened.
