Chapter 154: 154: Round 2- Part 3

Asger was having the time of his life.

After making his dramatic entrance and stretching his wings, he basked in the chaos he had caused. The humans scattered like ants, fear radiating from them in waves. It was amusing.

But after a while, the novelty wore off.

With a final shake of his wings, Asger let out a loud snort.

"Alright, I’m done."

Liam, still seated comfortably by the cave entrance, raised an eyebrow.

"That’s it? You’re going back already?"

Asger grumbled.

"Staying in my full form for too long is annoying. Besides, I already had my fun."

With that, he began shrinking back down, his massive form condensing into his smaller, more manageable half-dragon size.

Though Asger had returned to normal, the fear he had spread throughout the dungeon lingered.

For the rest of the first day, no one dared to come near their base.

But by the time the second day rolled around, curiosity began to outweigh fear.

The students who had initially run in terror started creeping back, hesitant but intrigued.

Whispers filled the air.

"Are we sure it was a real dragon?"

"Maybe it was just a dungeon illusion?"

"No way, I felt the magic. That thing was real."

"...Then where is it now?"

With Asger back in his smaller form, there was no longer a massive dragon looming over the area. And that only made people more curious.

A small group of students, more daring than the rest, approached the location where Asger had made his grand appearance.

They tread carefully, glancing around as if expecting the dragon to reappear at any moment.

Liam watched from the shadows of the cave, smirking slightly. He had expected this. Fear was powerful, but so was curiosity.

"What should we do? Should I scare them off again?"

Asger asked, cracking his knuckles.

Liam shook his head.

"No need. Let them look around. They won’t find anything."

Sure enough, the students poked around the area for a while, but without any evidence of the dragon, they eventually grew frustrated.

One of them sighed.

"Maybe it really was just a dungeon illusion after all..."

"Whatever. Let’s go find supplies."

Slowly, the students left, their curiosity still lingering but ultimately leading them nowhere.

Liam leaned back against the cave wall, satisfied.

The second day of the dungeon survival test had begun, and though the initial shock of Asger’s appearance had thrown everything into chaos, it was already beginning to settle.

Still, Liam knew better than to get too comfortable.

This was just the beginning.

______

The first day inside the dungeon passed relatively calmly and Liam was able to relax himself. Despite placing a ’target’ on his back, no one came to check him out.

But that changed the next day.

Liam was doing his normal petrol when he felt like someone...no, something familiar was heading his way. He tensed up and reached to defend himself.

But what greeted him was not a monster from his memories, but a young student.

The student did not look anything remarkable either.

If anything, this was the most ordinary student Liam had met and it made Liam unconsciously put his guard down.

That was his first mistake since the other student had no intention of giving Liam an easy time.

"Excuse me, are you Liam Sanders? I am here to talk to you about something important and familiar to you. Do you remember the Lost Civilization?’

The kid asked and Liam felt a familiar feeling welling up in his heart. That was was something he did not expect to hear.

Liam’s body tensed. The words Lost Civilization echoed in his head like a distant nightmare.

He had not heard that name in this lifetime. No one should know of it. No one could know of it.

His gaze snapped toward the unremarkable boy in front of him. At first glance, the kid looked ordinary—short brown hair, average height, blank expression. Nothing about him stood out. But the way he smiled, too wide, too knowing, sent a chill down Liam’s spine.

Liam took a slow, deliberate step forward.

"Who are you?"

His voice was calm, but his magic surged beneath the surface, ready to attack at a moment’s notice.

The kid tilted his head, his grin never fading.

"Just a lost soul wandering through time. Much like you, don’t you think?"

He said in a sing-song voice.

Liam’s fingers twitched. He wanted to grab his sword. He wanted to rip open the barriers of space and force this being—whatever it was—to reveal itself.

Instead, he exhaled through his nose and turned on his heel. "I don’t care who you are. Get lost."

But as he took a step away, the kid spoke again.

"You really don’t want to know what happened to them?"

Liam froze.

His heart pounded.

He clenched his fists.

’Ignore him. Don’t engage.’

But his body wouldn’t move.

The Lost Civilization... the place where everything had started... the place where everything had ended.

His home. His people. His past life.

Slowly, Liam turned back to face the strange boy. His voice was sharp.

"What do you know?"

The kid giggled.

"Oh, plenty! But you already know how their story ended, don’t you?"

Liam’s expression darkened.

"Destruction. Annihilation. Oblivion. And yet, you—"

The kid whispered, his tone light, almost playful.

He pointed a finger at Liam, his smile widening.

"—you slipped away, didn’t you?"

Liam’s chest tightened.

His breath came slow and measured, but he could feel the weight of his past pressing down on him.

Asger, sensing the shift in atmosphere, materialized beside him in a small burst of flames. His draconic eyes narrowed at the boy.

"Liam!"

He warned.

Liam didn’t respond. His entire focus was on the strange kid.

"Who are you?"

Liam asked again, his voice lower, colder this time.

The kid hummed as if considering his answer. Then, he spread his arms dramatically.

"I go by many names! But for now, you may call me..."

He paused, then grinned.

"Silas."

Silas.
