Chapter 43: 43: An interesting offer - Part 1

"Mama, look at the sky. What is that?"

A child asked as he looked up at the darkening sky. A huge shadow blocked the light of the night moon, causing the earth below to become shrouded in darkness.

The mother looked up as well, but unlike the child, she could not see much. She only saw a cloud covering the moon and blocking the natural light from entering her home.

"Looks like clouds are covering the sky tonight. It’s going to rain for sure. I better make sure to be prepared for tomorrow." freēnovelkiss.com

The mother spoke in a worried voice as she urged her daughter to fall asleep. For the common folk, it was just another sleepless night. But for those working behind the scenes, this night was straight out of a nightmare.

A dragon was out rampaging in its true form, flying over a city. If an accident happened, the city would be no more.

No one wanted such an outcome.

"Someone, hurry up and call Victor Rhemington, or one of the other rankers. This is not a situation we can handle on our own."

"Ugh, my head hurts. Where am I, and what am I—"

Liam’s consciousness slowly returned as he rubbed his head. There was a small bump on the back of his head, giving him a clear idea of what had happened to him. He groaned as pain assaulted his senses, making him feel awful.

His head swam, and he wanted to hurl whatever he had eaten. For a moment, he even convinced himself he had a concussion from hitting his head after the fall.

But the system cleared the situation for him.

[User is feeling side effects from the medication that knocked him out.]

That made much more sense, and Liam was able to calm himself and think more clearly about where he was.

He noticed that he was lying on something soft but also felt himself moving. He concluded that his cramped space was the back of someone’s car, and he was being transported to an unknown location.

"So, I did get kidnapped after all. Shit! I tried so hard to prevent this from happening, but I got taken anyway."

Liam sighed, evaluating his condition. He didn’t appear to be injured, which was good. However, his body felt heavier than normal, and he knew the medication wasn’t entirely out of his system.

[System check in progress. User’s body is 50% affected by the medication. Result: Lethargic reaction. User will experience difficulty moving.]

Hearing the system’s assessment made Liam groan. He wanted to rub his forehead to alleviate the headache, but he doubted it would help.

Finally, the car stopped, and one of the siblings opened the back door to pull Liam out. The male hoisted Liam over his shoulder before letting out a surprised yelp.

"Hey, he’s not as heavy as he looks. I bet I can take him inside without wasting too much magic. Leglois, want to give it a try?"

The older male asked, sounding surprised.

"No thanks. I have no intention of wasting my magic or energy on useless things, Aiden. Also, that man is awake, so watch your words. We need to drop him off and help the other team take down Aria Duskwood."

The female confirmed what Liam had suspected. These two were magical beings under orders to capture both him and Aria.

Liam couldn’t fathom why anyone would target him, given how low-key he usually kept himself. But there was one incident he could think of that might have led to this.

’I need to get out. Hey, system, can I use magic to escape?’

Liam asked the system, only to hear a beeping sound before it replied.

[User is not physically able to use magic now due to light-headedness. Recovery rate: 55%. Magic will be unlocked at 75% recovery rate. ETA: 1 hour, 10 minutes.]

That response made Liam groan out loud in frustration. He didn’t even bother trying to suppress it.

"Stop speaking. We’re about to enter the boss’s room. It’d be best for you to keep quiet and keep your head down."

Aiden, his male kidnapper, informed Liam before knocking at a door and stepping inside.

Since Liam was facing away from the entrance, he couldn’t see the boss. But he could feel the magical energy radiating from the figure behind him.

It wasn’t as strong as Elder Erin or Aria Duskwood’s magic, but it wasn’t insignificant either.

The kidnappers set Liam down gently in the middle of the room, their nervous energy palpable as they turned to face their boss. They straightened their postures, the confidence from earlier completely gone. The air in the room felt thick with tension.

"Sir, we have brought him as instructed."

Aiden said, his voice strained but attempting to sound professional.

Leglois nodded stiffly, not meeting her boss’s gaze. "He was more cooperative than we expected. We encountered no significant issues."

The man seated at the head of the room barely acknowledged them. He appeared young, perhaps in his late twenties, with sharp, aristocratic features.

His dark hair was slicked back, and he wore an impeccably tailored black suit. His eyes, a piercing shade of silver, seemed to see right through them.

"Good. Now, leave. You still have another task to complete."

The man said curtly, his voice low and smooth but carrying an undertone of authority that left no room for argument.

The twins exchanged uneasy glances but didn’t argue. They bowed slightly before retreating, their footsteps echoing softly as they exited the room.

Once they were gone, Liam shifted uncomfortably, his body still heavy from the lingering effects of the drug. He finally got a good look at the man in front of him. The aura of power surrounding him was undeniable.

Liam felt intimidated as a human, but his magic did not allow him to feel any ’true’ fear. All he could do was try and focus on what was happening.

But it did not take long before the other male spoke to him.
