Last Wizard King's SSS-Level Magic system in Modern World-Chapter 70: The gaurd’s mood-swings- Part 1
Chapter 70: 70: The gaurd’s mood-swings- Part 1
"Liam, what’s that? Let’s head to that shop next. No, wait! Maybe that shop—"
Asger dragged Liam’s body behind him as soon as he saw something that interested him. It seemed easy for the half-dragon to be able to drag someone like Liam behind him without any trouble.
Liam had stopped complaining ten minutes ago once he realized that there was no point in trying to speak up. Asger was mentally a kid, and all kids were stubborn and unyielding to a fault.
The only way to control Asger would be to let him tire himself out.
Luckily, Liam was not going into this situation blind. He had a plan he was going to execute now.
For the past few days, Liam had been practicing his magic control, and he was proud to say that he had gotten efficient enough to be able to influence its intensity.
Since Asger was dependent on Liam’s magic and its consumption, slowly lowering the amount going through the connection would make the half-dragon tire out quicker.
The technique worked, and Asger began to feel tired within fifteen minutes.
Once Liam noticed the first head drop, he decided to speak up.
"Shall we head to the library now? You can take a nap there while I go and browse the sections."
Liam did not point out how tired Asger looked. Instead, he offered this to the half-dragon.
"Tsk, I am not tired. I can still keep going... but maybe taking a small nap won’t be that bad. Fine! I will allow you the honor of escorting me to that library place... whatever it may be."
Asger was easy to persuade now that he was tired, and Liam mentally celebrated his victory before he quickly took Asger to the library.
Within minutes, Liam stood in front of the public state library that seemed to have seen better days.
The desolate state of the building in front of him made Liam feel as if he had come to the wrong place, but he decided to trust his gut—and Lucas—before he walked into the building.
Hardly anyone was present at the library, all due to the internet making things much more accessible for everyone. It made the place in front of Liam look even more pathetic.
Even the guard at the front looked like he could not be bothered to check what was happening.
Liam took a deep breath before he headed toward the guard and took out his invite to the magic side.
The guard watched Liam walk toward him, and his first reaction was to frown. It felt like a clear warning for Liam to stay back and not talk to him.
"Oi, Liam, I don’t like the look that human is giving us. Should I do something about it?"
Asger asked, and Liam immediately caught his wrist to stop him. He did not want anything to happen to Asger because he was not paying attention.
"It’s fine. Don’t cause trouble and let me handle this situation. Lucas did warn me that the people here are not kind to non-magic users."
Liam was prepared for this, and he forced himself to approach the man in front of him before handing his invite over.
"Excuse me, but I was asked to hand this invite to you. The one who gave it to me said that it will allow me entry to the ’V.V.I.P.’ section."
Liam told the guard, but the elder just yawned before he grabbed the invite to take a look at it.
"What the hell, kid? Where do you think you are—"
The guard’s expression changed as soon as he read the inside of the invite, and that rude and unconcerned gaze was gone. It was replaced by a look full of opportunities, and the guard suddenly looked alert.
The guard’s demeanor changed instantly upon finishing the invite. His previously uninterested, almost disdainful expression morphed into something akin to forced politeness.
His posture straightened, and he quickly gestured for Liam to follow.
"Ah, Mister! My apologies for my earlier behavior. Please, allow me to escort you to the V.V.I.P. section."
His voice dripped with sudden respect, though a hint of wariness remained.
Liam barely suppressed an amused smirk as he followed the guard, Asger trailing beside him with an uninterested expression.
They were led through a large, towering doorway with intricate carvings glowing faintly with magic.
As they stepped through, Liam felt a slight tingling sensation course through his skin, as if the very air had shifted.
"Might I ask which guild you are affiliated with?"
The guard inquired, his voice smooth but carrying an edge of curiosity. He likely wanted to make a connection with a higher-up in a strong guilt.
Unfortunately, he was not going to get that with Liam.
Liam shook his head.
"I’m not part of any guild."
The guard’s eyebrows shot up, and his polite tone soured slightly and a lot more rude compared to seconds ago.
"No guild, huh? That’s... unusual. Most individuals who gain access to this section are high-ranking members of one of the recognized guilds."
The guard’s steps slowed slightly, as if re-evaluating whether Liam even belonged there.
Liam, sensing the shift, decided to drop a name that might reinforce his credibility.
"I did receive an invitation to Victor Remington’s guild, though."
The effect was immediate. The guard’s face stiffened before once again regaining his polished, differential expression.
"Victor Remington, you say? Well, that certainly explains things. Forgive my earlier tone."
Liam nodded, neither confirming nor denying whether he had accepted the invitation.
"Oi human, are you sure I cannot ’take care’ of him? This man is getting on my nerves. I don’t like him."
Asger whispered to Liam as they walked. But Liam ignored him and instead, he decided to pay attention to the guard once more and asked another question.
"Before I do anything else, I need a place where my companion can rest for a while. Could you show us to a room?"
