Chapter 85: 85: Restricte Dunegon Entry - Part 2

The mountain air was crisp and carried the scent of damp earth and pine. Hidden beneath the thick canopy of trees, three figures moved carefully through the underbrush, their boots barely making a sound against the uneven terrain.

Two of them were hunters, armed to the teeth with enchanted weapons and gear meant for taking down powerful prey.

Their guide, however, was no ordinary tracker. He was a Warden—a man meant to uphold the laws of magic, yet here he was, leading these two into restricted territory for a price.

One of the hunters, a burly man with a thick beard and an eye patch, grunted as he wiped the sweat off his brow.

"Oi, Guide. You sure this is the right place? You made it sound like we’d be walking into a goldmine of rare beasts. But all I see are trees and dirt"

He muttered, turning to glare at the man in front of him.

The second hunter, a lean man with sharp features and piercing green eyes, scoffed.

"Tch. Yeah. You hyped this place up like it was some kind of legendary hunting ground. We wouldn’t have paid that absurd sum if we knew we’d just be taking a damn stroll through the woods."

The Warden, a thin man with a nervous disposition, forced a chuckle. Sweat trickled down his temple as he tried to maintain his composure.

He had indeed promised them access to an exclusive hunting ground—a place supposedly teeming with rare creatures, trophies they could display to boost their reputations.

But the truth was, he had exaggerated.

In reality, he had only smuggled them past the barrier into a restricted area, hoping that they would at least find something worthwhile before they realized the scam.

If these two realized they had been tricked, he had no doubt they would turn their weapons on him.

"Relax, relax, gentlemen. I swear on my life, we’re in the right place. Just a little farther, and I promise, you’ll find something worthy of your coin. Trust me."

The Warden assured, forcing a grin.

The hunters exchanged skeptical glances, but after a tense moment, they sighed and nodded.

"Fine. But if we don’t find anything worthwhile soon, we’ll be taking our money back. One way or another"

The bearded hunter grumbled.

The Warden swallowed hard but nodded hastily.

Just as they were about to move again, a sudden rustling in the bushes made them all freeze.

The hunters’ instincts kicked in immediately. Their hands flew to their weapons as they crouched low, eyes scanning the shadows of the forest.

"There it is! Get ready."

The lean hunter whispered, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

The tension was thick in the air. The Warden held his breath, afraid to move.

The bushes rustled again.

Then, without warning, a shadow burst forth.

There was no time to react.

Before the hunters could even aim their weapons, something fast—too fast—swept through them like a storm.

A single powerful force struck both hunters in an instant, sending them crumpling to the ground, unconscious.

The Warden barely had time to scream before he too was struck in the gut. The air left his lungs in a painful wheeze, and darkness quickly consumed his vision as he collapsed alongside his unfortunate clients.

A moment later, the forest was silent again.

From the shadows, Liam straightened his back, rolling his shoulders as he let out a disappointed sigh.

"Well, that was underwhelming. I was hoping for at least a little challenge"

He muttered, glancing down at the unconscious bodies sprawled before him.

Asger, hidden from sight, let out a chuckle.

"You’re expecting too much from bottom-feeders like these. They’re all talk and they don’t even have magic.."

The half-dragon commented.

Liam sighed again, crouching down as he prepared to grab the unconscious men and drag them out of the restricted area.

He wasn’t particularly interested in wasting more time on them, but letting them roam freely would be a pain for others later.

Just as he reached for the Warden’s collar, a sudden voice rang out from the distance.

"There! We’ve found them!"

Liam tensed.

He turned his head just in time to see several figures approaching through the trees. They were dressed in the familiar uniforms of the International Magius Society, their badges gleaming under the moonlight.

They were scanning the area for intruders—just as Liam had suspected.

One of them, a sharp-eyed woman with short auburn hair, narrowed her gaze at the scene before her. She took in the unconscious hunters and Warden, then snapped her eyes toward Liam.

"You! Identify yourself! What are you doing here?"

She barked, stepping forward.

Liam sighed internally.

This was a complication.

He wasn’t exactly breaking the rules, but explaining the situation in a way that wouldn’t lead to unnecessary questions would be... tricky.

Still, he wasn’t in the mood to deal with red tape.

So instead of responding immediately, he lazily stood up, dusted off his sleeves, and gave the woman an unimpressed look.

"Isn’t it obvious? Cleaning up your mess."

He said, motioning to the unconscious men.

The woman’s eyes twitched in irritation.

"Excuse me?"

Liam crossed his arms.

"From what I overheard, you were having trouble finding the intruders, weren’t you? Well, here they are. Hand-delivered."

The group of Magius officers exchanged glances. Some looked surprised, while others remained cautious.

The auburn-haired woman wasn’t entirely convinced.

"And who exactly are you to be handling matters like this? Are you affiliated with any guild or organization? I will need to report this incident."

She pressed.

"Just a C-class magician looking to enter the dungeon. I was waiting, but since you were all busy, I figured I’d save us some time and handle the problem myself."

Liam was quick to defend himself against the female.

The woman studied him carefully. There was something off about him—something she couldn’t quite place. He carried himself with the confidence of someone far above C-class, yet his records confirmed otherwise.

Still, there was no evidence that he had done anything wrong.

After a tense moment, she sighed.
