Chapter 96: 96: Make it up to me- Part 3

’I-I am going to die. Oh god! What did I get myself into? I should have realized that this was a bad idea from the start.’

Darius dodged the mini-boss’s attack while trying his best to maintain his form. But since he was not powerful enough to endure the full attack, he ended up being knocked back and almost lost his life.

The mini-boss gave him no time to recover as it swung its tail toward Darius’s middle.

And as if all this was not enough, the man tormenting him from the sidelines would become the reason Darius lost his sanity.

"You are doing great, Senior. Keep doing it, and you will be able to defeat the boss sooner or later. I am sure you are just dragging this match out to show me what to do."

Liam cheered from the sidelines. His words sounded provoking, but the older male could only bite his tongue and continue to face the mini-boss.

After all, he felt like he would die if he diverted his attention away from the boss in front of him. That was how intense this fight had turned out to be.

But the more Liam cheered him on, the more it distracted Darius until he could not take it anymore and made a mistake.

His balance slipped, and before he knew it, he was falling down directly in front of the monster.

Sharp fangs glinted in the light, and Darius felt his end coming. But seconds before his abdomen could be pierced by those sharp fangs, he felt something wrap itself around his middle, and he was pulled to safety.

Darius felt relief filling his body, and he immediately looked at the one who had saved his life. He was ready to say something when his eyes landed on Liam.

"..."

Words that were about to escape Darius’s mouth froze, and he felt unbinding rage at Liam.

"Senior, you should keep running. I don’t think the boss likes the fact that you are running away from it."

Liam pointed out, and Darius immediately looked back, only to see the mini-boss charging at him again.

He might have been saved for now, but that did not mean he was out of danger just yet. The boss was closing in on him faster than Darius could keep up with.

Liam watched this all from the sidelines with a sadistic smile on his face.

He was not one to wish harm upon others most of the time, but even he fell to temptation once in a while—especially when he felt as offended by someone as he did at the moment.

"I think we should help him out, Liam. That human’s body is about to reach its limits."

Asger pointed out as he kept an eye on Darius as well.

"You are right. As much as I would love to continue, I need to know when to draw the line. I will head out and help Darius now."

Liam spoke before he stood up and jumped down.

With his carefully crafted magic control, he halted the mini-boss’s movements and held it in place. He could have held it stiff for longer, but he did not need to do that.

Darius was bright enough to see an opportunity and grab it.

The older male twisted his body around before stabbing the mini-boss. His strength was not enough to penetrate the boss’s hide, so Liam helped him out, and finally, the boss was taken down.

Darius collapses as soon as the mini-boss falls, his body hitting the ground with an ungraceful thud. His breathing is heavy, his limbs feel like lead, and his entire being screams for rest.

He wants nothing more than to close his eyes and recover his strength, but before he can even think about relaxing, Liam’s voice cuts through the air.

"Alright, now that we’re done with the warm-up, let’s move on."

Darius freezes. His mind takes a moment to process Liam’s words, hoping he misheard. Surely, Liam couldn’t be serious. This had to be a joke.

"...Excuse me?"

Darius croaks out, barely able to lift his head.

Liam tilts his head slightly, his face showing not an ounce of sympathy. "

We’re just getting started. Did you think we were done? There are plenty more monsters to take down."

He repeats, stretching his arms as if shaking off some stiffness.

Darius feels a headache coming on. He cannot believe what he is hearing. He had already pushed his body beyond its limits, and Liam was expecting him to keep going?

His legs tremble as he tries to stand, but his knees buckle, and he drops back down with a grunt.

Liam watches with mild amusement.

"If you can’t even get up, I guess I overestimated you, Senior."

Darius grits his teeth. He knows Liam is toying with him—messing with his pride to get a reaction. And worst of all? It’s working.

"This... this is insane. You’re insane"

Darius pants, wiping the sweat from his forehead.

Liam shrugs, unconcerned.

"I just believe in pushing people to reach their full potential."

Darius wants to throw a rock at him. No—scratch that—he wants to throw a whole mountain at him.

But he doesn’t have the energy for either.

His instincts scream at him that if he stays with Liam any longer, he might not make it out of this dungeon in one piece.

He has already embarrassed himself enough. Staying here and continuing to fight would only be digging his own grave.

Summoning whatever little magic he has left, Darius casts a minor speed enhancement spell on himself. Then, without a second thought, he turns on his heels and runs.

Liam doesn’t move to stop him. In fact, he doesn’t seem the least bit concerned as he watches Darius disappear into the distance.

"You’re just letting him go?"

Asger asks, flicking his tail.

Liam shrugs again, this time with a lazy smile. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

"I’m not in the mood to waste energy chasing him. Besides, he’s already learned his lesson."

Asger snickers.

"You’re really cruel, you know that?"

Liam merely smirks, adjusting his gloves as he turns toward the deeper part of the dungeon.

"Come on, let’s find something stronger to fight."
