Chapter 16: A Shocked Oriana

After Lukas left the store, Rohan Hayes beckoned an employee over and whispered something in his ear.

The employee nodded in understanding and then swiftly left the store while Rohan stared in Viscount Mansion’s direction with a confused glint in his eyes.

"What did he buy, uncle?"

Just then, Eric entered the store and asked.

Rohan looked at him, suddenly recalling the loss he suffered and wanted to scold him.

Unfortunately, Eric belonged to the main line and despite being his senior, he couldn’t do it. So, he just sighed and told him. "He bought several Grade One items like Angola Roots..."

Eric’s eyes flickered with surprise and confusion, "What does he need all these things for? Also, where did he get that many Gold Coins? His savings?"

He was close to Helen and knew she only gave a few tens of Gold Coins a month, sometimes even less because Lukas had no need of them.

But now, he took out 5000 Gold Coins to buy things that were useless for him. Why?

After the messenger brought this information to the Hayes family, the current lord of the family, Aaron Hayes, Helen’s elder brother, had the same question swirling in his mind.

...

Lukas knew several people would pay him attention because of his sudden purchase, but he did not care because once he stepped foot on the Magic Cultivation Path and became a Mage, everyone was going to find out anyway.

’Their reactions are going to be interesting at that time, especially Raymond’s...’ He thought, his eyes flashing.

Soon, they returned to the Viscount Mansion and went to Lukas’ villa. He wasn’t to create the Rune immediately.

In her residence, a female Knight was on one knee, informing Simone, "...He went to the Hayes family store and has just returned to the mansion. He seems to have bought several things as the bag his maid carried was full."

"I understand." Simone nodded and the knight left the hall. After she left, Simone couldn’t help but murmur, "What’s the boy plan to do? Why does he need so many different kinds of Grade One items?"

If the female knight had heard this, she would have been surprised because she hadn’t told her anything about what he bought.

"Herbs I understand, but Dark-Spotted Python’s fangs, a Ling King’s blood essence, and a vicious dire wolf’s purified blood..." She continued to murmur.

Suddenly, a voice sounded out of nowhere. "Would you like me to go and take a look, Milady?"

Unsurprised, Simone shook her head, "No, it’s alright. Let him do whatever he wants. After all..."

She didn’t complete the sentence, a pitying and angered glint flashing in her eyes which soon turned into a helpless one.

"I hope you were strong enough to kill peak Adept Mages..." She sighed.

"...I wish the same, Milady." The voice sounded a moment later.

Then, the hall fell silent for a long while before Simone asked, "Has Helen still not resolved the situation in Green Stone City?"

"Not yet, Milady."

Simone nodded.

...

After entering his room and bolting the door despite knowing no one would enter his villa, Lukas took the cloth bag from Oriana, sat cross-legged on the ground and poured out its contents in front of him.

Just as he was about to close his eyes to recall the steps of first level Rune’s creation, he heard Oriana say.

"Um, Young Lord, call me when you are done."

Lukas smiled and shook his head, "No need. Just stay here and watch as I undergo another awakening and become a mage."

Oriana’s eyes widened and her pretty mouth hung open in shock.

After a few moments of shock, she asked, "Y-Young Lord, w-what did you just say?"

"Exactly what you heard." Lukas smiled, "I’m going to go under a second awakening and this time, I’m going to succeed."

Then without giving her another chance to speak, he closed his eyes.

Oriana had several questions like how was he going to do it? Did he buy all these magic items for this purpose? Most importantly, how come he knew the method of undergoing a second awakening?

Even though she was just a maid and had barely become a 1-star mage, she had heard the rumors of people becoming mages even though they had previously failed their awakenings.

However, allowing someone to undergo a second awakening was a very difficult task. The difficulty of this could easily be understood from the fact that in the history of their kingdom, most princes and princesses of the Royal Family, after failing their awakening, never underwent a second awakening.

If even the Royal Family couldn’t do it easily, how was her Young Lord, someone who was worse than a commoner, going to do it?

Suddenly, her mind flashed with a memory of a few years before when she had accompanied Lukas to the annual Neera City fare.

When they were strolling the area, watching all kinds of things, they had met an old man who was nothing but skin and bones, seeming to have starved for months.

Seeing Lukas’ noble attire and her, a maid, accompanying him, he had taken out a crystal pendant and asked Lukas to buy it for a few silvers.

Lukas pitied him and bought it. Just as he was about to hand it over to her, the old man had whispered something in his ear, which made his eyes go wide in shock, suspicion and hope. But after hesitating for a while, instead of giving the pendant to her, he had worn it around his neck.

She became curious and after they had left the fair, she asked him what the old man had said.

With a slightly embarrassed and hopeful look on his face, he had told her, ’He told me this pendant could help me become a mage if I was lucky. So, I should always wear it.’

’When Knight Oslove brought him back a month ago, Young Lord only had the string of crystal pendant left. Does this mean the accident somehow triggered the pendant and... gave him a method of undergoing a second awakening?’

She couldn’t help but think this and the more she thought, the more it seemed to make sense to her. Otherwise why was he so sure he could undergo a second awakening and become a mage?

After realizing this, she became happy for him. She had seen how much he had suffered all these years.

As the son of Viscount, he should have been living a colorful life, but instead he was living a life worse than a commoner from some sense.

But after the happiness came worries, ’What’s he going to tell Viscount and others after he became a mage? What if they became greedy and... harmed him for his fortune?’
