Chapter 15: Eric Hayes; Family Discount

"Welcome to the Hayes family store, valued customer! Please tell me what you would like to purchase."

As Lukas entered the store with Oriana, a young lady, probably 16-17 years old, dressed in black and silver robes greeted him with a smile.

While he was Viscount and Hayes family’s daughter’s son, because he rarely left the mansion, very few people were familiar with him.

So, seeing this young lady not recognise him, he wasn’t surprised in the least. Moreover, he preferred this. Unfortunately, his identity would soon be revealed.

Just as he thought this, the sound of heavy footsteps sounded as the young man he encountered outside entered the store with his Knights.

"Greetings, Young Master Eric!"

The store employees greeted him respectfully, but the young man, Eric, ignored them and stared at Lukas who was standing with his back facing him.

"Hasn’t aunt Helen teaching you anything? How come you have become so rude?!" He coldly asked,

Hearing his words, everyone including the young lady who greeted Lukas, looked at him in surprise.

"Y-You are Lady Helen’s son, the famous Young Lord, Lukas? No wonder you also have silver hair like everyone else in the Hayes family." The young lady blurted out, but then she realized she had spoken out of turn and hurriedly clamped her mouth shut before bowing in apology toward him and Eric, "I-I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to—"

"It’s alright." Lukas and Eric said at the same time. The only difference was that Lukas’ voice was calm while Eric’s was cold.

The young lady, not knowing what to do, lowered her head and just stood there.

Eric ignored her and snarled at Lukas, "I’m talking to you."

Sigh!

Lukas sighed, turned around and said, "Forgive me, my little cousin, I didn’t recognise you just then."

Eric opened and closed his mouth after hearing him apologize. His apology should have made him feel better, but for some reason, he did not. However, since he had apologised, he couldn’t make things difficult for him.

But then his eyes flashed and he coldly asked, "What do you mean? How can you not recognise your own family?"

Lukas stared at him silently for a moment. From his inherited memories, he knew this guy wasn’t a bad person. A few times, when he was visiting Hayes family with Helen and someone was bullying and making fun of him, he had defended him.

His expression placid, he said, "Compared to the last time I saw you, you have changed greatly. So, it’s natural I wouldn’t be able to recognize you immediately."

His answer stumped Eric again.

Gritting his teeth in frustration, he decided to change the topic and asked, "What are you here to buy?"

"Oh? You’ll help me get a discount if I tell you? You are really a good person, Cousin Eric." Lukas said, a moved look on his face.

Beside him, Oriana looked at him with a flicker of pleasant surprise in her eyes.

Before his awakening, he was a very bright child and always had a smile on his face.

He also loved to crack jokes and tease people, but after he failed the awakening and became the object of everyone’s disdain and ridicule, his personality changed—he no longer wore that sunny smile or joked around anymore, instead, he became introverted and started staying cooped up in his room.

When after almost dying on the way to Ruzak City for the Young Lords’ Meet and regaining consciousness a month later he started acting a little differently than before, she thought it was because of the trauma and because the change was positive as he started talking to her more, appeared more confident in his skin and started eating well, she appreciated the change.

However, he still hadn’t smiled warmly like before, not to mention joke around. Now, however, he was clearly teasing the Hayes family’s Young Master and she saw the old Lukas in him.

’I hope the mistress was here to witness the change in him. She would have been really happy.’ She thought.

Eric’s eyelids twitched when he heard Lukas and seeing his moved expression, he bit his tongue and said, "You are aunt Helen’s son, half a member of my Hayes family. So, of course you’ll get a discount."

Finished speaking, he turned to the store keeper—a silvery white haired middle-aged man, clearly someone from the Hayes family—behind the counter and said, "Uncle Rohan, give him the maximum discount possible."

Rohan Hayes smiled, "Of course, Young Master."

"Okay. I’ll leave now." Saying this, Eric turned around and hurriedly left the store with his knights. Lukas made him frustrated and took advantage of him. He was afraid if he stayed any longer, he would be driven mad.

After leaving the store, he paused and turned to look at the store, muttering, "It seems the accident has positively affected him. This is good, Aunt Helen wouldn’t worry too much about him now."

...

"Rina, help the fourth Young Lord find everything he wants to purchase." Rohan Hayes, the store keeper, said to the young lady standing in front of Lukas.

"Y-Yes, sir." The young lady, Rina, hurriedly nodded and said to Lukas, "Young Lord, please tell me whatever you want, I’ll bring that to you."

Lukas nodded, "I need a stack of Angola Roots, two fangs of a 1-star, Dark-Spotted Python, it would be best if they are from a peak 1-star Python, one spirit soothing elixir, nine drops of refined blood essence of a Lion King of a 1-star pride, half a liter purified blood of a dire wolf..."

Rina’s attentive expression turned surprised and overjoyed as she heard him list the names of the items he needed.

Everything he named was among the best Grade One materials. Even with the discount, it would cost thousands of Gold Coins and as an employee who received two percent commission on every sale she made, she would get several dozen Gold Coins.

Her monthly salary was just one Gold Coin. How could she not be surprised and overjoyed upon realizing she was going to make a fortune today?

"...Lastly, give me 10 Low Grade Mana Stones." Lukas finished listing the things he needed before asking, "How much would all these cost after the discount?"

"Let me ask the storekeeper, Young Lord." Rina said and went over to Rohan, who after hearing the things he wanted revealed a strained smile. ’Such a big loss!’

Then he told Rina to bring the items out while he called Lukas over.

"Young Lord, your total amounts to 7200, but after the 30% family discount, you only need to pay 5040 Gold Coins."

Lukas’ expression hardened when he heard this. He seems to have underestimated the price of the Grade One items.

But then let out a sigh, ’Thankfully Simone gave me 5000, otherwise if she had only given the 3000 I asked, I wouldn’t have been able to buy half the things.’

"Oriana..." He turned to Oriana who nodded and from her robe started taking out one pouch after another. Soon, there were ten pouches on the counter.

"These are 5000 coins, uncle Rohan. I’ll pay the remaining 40 a while later. Is that alright?" Lukas looked at him earnestly.

Rohan’s eyelids twitched and he almost shouted, ’I have already slashed more than 2000 Gold and now you won’t even pay the remaining in full.’

Shaking his head, he sighed, "It’s alright, Young Lord. You don’t need to pay later. Consider it a gift from me."

Lukas stared at him for a moment before bowing with respect toward him, "Thank you, uncle."

A while later, the duo left the store and headed back to the Mansion.

Lukas was in a good mood as he would be able to create the first level Rune and begin cultivation.
