Chapter 73: The Great Storm Tree

This was the first time the Lion Family had tasted meat as delicious as what Kael made. It was simply a salvation to their taste buds, and in no time, all of them finished three Wild Boars.

Kael had instantly become their idol of worship, and all three of them claimed him as their God of Meat.

Kael really wanted to smack them but held back after seeing their overflowing happiness. He was even forced to make a promise to teach them all the methods of his heavenly cooking.

Even Rias admitted that this was one of the best dishes she had eaten in her life, though her statement was definitely suspicious.

But Kael ignored it all and simply enjoyed their company. This was the night of celebrations, after all.

In the dim light of the bonfire, all of them were lying beside each other while looking at the scattered moonlight in the distance.

The usual noise of the forest was back, filling the atmosphere with a strange serenity that calmed the souls of the residents.

"Rias, what do you think of the tree?" Kael asked the lady lying on his right.

"It’s dangerous," Rias spoke calmly. "I can sense danger from it."

"Even for you?"

This alarmed Kael, and he sat up and turned to look at her, but had to control his thoughts quickly because she looked absolutely stunning with her beautiful hair spread behind her and her twin peaks standing proud on his face.

It wasn’t hard to control himself because the fact that the Great Storm Tree could make a Demi-God feel danger spoke of its true might.

"It doesn’t have an intelligence, but it is very dangerous," Rias said. "But it’s... not really a danger."

While Kael grew confused from her words, Kiona asked from his left, "Do you mean the lightning it attracts?"

Rias nodded and said thoughtfully, "I can feel its attraction towards the storm, so it isn’t surprising if it attracts a bizarre storm. That storm probably carries terrifying energy which can affect the environment, which is also the reason no powerful beasts want to reside here.

"They would get infected and succumb to madness. I can still sense the remnants of that energy. It isn’t dangerous now, but the moment the storm comes, the energies are at their peak."

Kael raised an eyebrow and asked, "So, you mean anyone near the tree would automatically be affected?"

"My judgment tells me that."

"But we survived," Kael said in confusion. "And she also stayed underground... wait a minute!"

Kael quickly connected the dots and turned towards Kiona, "You know something about this, right?"

"I am not completely sure," Kiona responded. "After losing against Steve, Seth and Jon brought me here because this seemed the only safe place, but we had also heard about the Legends of the Great Storm Tree. We were afraid but out of options."

She sighed and continued, "So, we took a risk and hid underground. After all, it was definitely much safer than facing the storm head-on. That was when we learned that the roots of the tree are miraculous."

Kael nodded as his guess was right. He turned towards Seth and asked, "Is that why you stopped on top of a root when we faced the storm?"

Seth nodded and quickly sat up to bow before Kael, "I apologize for setting you up like that, Master."

He was referring to the fact that he hadn’t told Kael about the method to remain safe and left him in the open. It was clear that he had wanted Kael to die, as he was wary of him.

But Kael had survived miraculously.

"Is that the reason why you decided to trust me?" Kael smiled.

"Partially, yes. It also proved that you were truly special," Seth said and once again bowed. "I will accept any punishment you wish to give me."

"Get up. You were just protecting your family," Kael shook his head.

He then focused on the new knowledge he had learned and smiled. He said, "Interesting. This can help us make our Capital here."

"What do you mean, Master?" Kiona asked in confusion. "Do you plan to use the roots?"

"What’s happening here is very simple physics," Kael smiled and explained. "The storm carries a special lightning that is very potent and dangerous. Its objective is to reach the ground, so it will come down in any way possible."

He pointed at the tree and said, "The tree is actually protecting this area and maybe even the whole Valoran Wilds. It serves as the conductor that attracts the lightning and transfers it to the ground, effectively saving the whole forest and its beings."

"It can’t absorb everything," Rias spoke from the side. "So, some of it probably gets scattered and affects the surroundings. That is perhaps one of the reasons no one wants to live here aside from dumb animals."

"Exactly. The Great Storm Tree is actually our protector and also the one nourishing these lands. It transfers the lightning to the ground, and apparently, it’s very good for it."

"So, the reason we were safe is because the roots actually release the converted energies through the ground," Kiona’s eyes lit up as she muttered. "Perhaps it’s also why I was able to survive even in that dire situation. Our luck was really good."

Rias stared at the two of them and asked, "Still, it means that you can’t make a city here unless you want your people to get baptized randomly."

Just after saying that, Rias had a thoughtful face, as if she were pondering her own words.

"I have a way to make it happen," Kael smiled, looking at the tree behind them.

"Using the roots?" Kiona asked.

"Part of it," Kael nodded. "The wood of the Great Storm Tree works as a conductor and the roots perhaps as the converter, so we will need both. There is one thing I’m unsure about though."

He sighed, "If the whole thing works because there’s something in the tree that makes it happen, then my plan will fail and we will need to choose a new place."

Just then, the sky turned darker and rumbled as wind picked up, bringing the fallen leaves up into the air.

Kael jumped to his feet as an excited smile cracked across his face, "What a lucky day. Time to do the experiments."
