Chapter 80: The Personal Taxi

Kael had to ignore his astonishment and focus on the work if he wanted to get it done quickly. There was much more to do to prepare the land for houses other than just clearing the trees and upper materials.

Rias glanced at him and asked, "Is there anything else you want to do here?"

"Check the underground," Kael said. "You cut the trees, so the roots underground will slowly rot and cause problems later on. We also need to make sure the soil is good and also need to see if the boulders are unstable underground."

He sighed, "There’s so much to check, and there’s also the problem of underground beasts. We will probably need to upturn the land here and properly build the city."

"Is that really necessary?" Rias tilted her head to the side and asked in confusion.

"It is, and if we don’t do that, then we are just leaving problems for the future," Kael nodded and said. "If only we had someone with Earth affinity or someone with the ability to do all this stuff. Maybe we should really first conquer other tribes."

But then he shook his head, as that would require him to give everyone a place to live. They were literally sleeping under the tree the previous day.

’Well, we can take over a village? Uhh! I guess I’ll have to become a little cruel emperor.’

"Leave it to me, Master."

He turned upon hearing the familiar energetic voice and found Kiona standing there with her fluffy tail swinging left and right. She was obviously in a good mood, and her body displayed that.

"You sure?"

Kiona nodded, "I’ve already studied everything, and it feels like I’ve experienced them too, so I am sure I can handle everything even if there are some problems."

She paused before smiling, "Also, Master, didn’t you tell me to lead this project? Then please let me do it."

Kael stared at her for a second and then nodded, "Alright, I’ll leave this to you and bring back the materials. Where are those rods, anyways?"

"We dug a small cave right beside the entrance of the Labyrinth and shifted all the metal rods there," Kiona answered.

"Alright. Good luck with your work," Kael ruffled her beautiful, smooth red hair and then turned towards Rias. "Let’s go!"

Rias nodded wordlessly as Kael went to stand beside her.

A moment later, space rippled around them. The world twisted into light and wind as Rias tore open a silver veil, stepping into the Astral Pathway. It went right through the Astral World, but she could use specific coordinates to locate the area they wanted to reach.

Kael followed right behind her.

The world bled into gray, then burst into color once again. Kael felt all of his senses turn strange, giving him wrong information and filling his mind with confusion.

Fortunately, he had experienced the Astral World before, so he controlled his Soul and brought the surroundings to calm—or rather, adapted to his surroundings.

In the next moment, the world around him changed once again, and the small room connected to the Labyrinth appeared before him.

Kael blinked, still not used to traveling through the Astral World, even though it was such a short distance. He couldn’t even imagine what would happen if he tried to go back to Earth.

He shook his head and turned to look at the familiar writing above the door. Raising an eyebrow, he asked, "Why did you bring me here? Also, isn’t this considered a part of the Labyrinth? You can teleport inside a Labyrinth?"

Rias shook her head slightly and said, "No, we can access the Astral World inside the Labyrinth, but we can’t send our Ether Body there. The physical world doesn’t allow that."

She turned back and continued, "And I came here directly because there are fluctuations in this area’s reflection in the Astral World. It’s very small, but there still is, so I brought you here directly so nobody senses us approaching."

’So, you are clueless yet so intelligent?’ Kael mused and asked, "You still didn’t answer one of my questions."

"While this is a part of the Labyrinth, it simultaneously isn’t. You can call it... a safe zone?" Rias put a finger on her lips, muttering the word ’safe zone’ again.

Kael nodded and tried to sense the status of the outside world, finding everything relatively calm. There were only a few insects and bugs trying to rebuild their nests.

’If I didn’t encounter those abominations in the Apocalypse Earth, I would have ignored even bugs thinking they are nothing to worry about.’

Kael shivered, recalling some haunting memories before he buried them deep again and asked, "Is it safe outside?"

"Yes."

Getting the answer, Kael went back outside, finding himself in the canyon once again. He quickly found the cave his friends dug up and took off the cover, which was a lot of soil.

’Rocks or anything else would have been too suspicious, so they just used the soil and pebbles to make it look just as it was before. Interesting!’

The only reason he could find them easily was because there were still metal rods in which some mana fluctuations were left, so he easily detected them.

This one can’t be solved easily.

He unearthed the cave and found hundreds of metal rods buried deep inside. He couldn’t even see the end, making him wonder just how many Flame Elementals the lion family had killed.

Kael chuckled to himself and quickly gathered a small heap of metal rods and buried the rest of the metal rods once again. This time, he was more careful and also took out the rods which had mana fluctuations.

After that, he turned towards Rias, who was resting silently on the side, eating a golden apple she brought from who knows where.

He rolled his eyes and said, "Can you help me out a little here?"

Rias stopped her meal and said, "Sure! You should have said so sooner."

Kael’s lips twitched, but he didn’t say anything. After all, he was already having a Demi-God work as a personal taxi—what more could he ask for?

He just looked at the small heap of metal rods and thought, ’This should be enough for a few houses for now.:
