Captain Lawrence's apartment, ground floor.

Luo An bent down, found a cell phone in the pocket of the leading black-clad enemy, randomly sent a message to Mona, then stood up, looked at the familiar face before him, and laughed:

"Now, what do you think, do you still believe I'm the one who killed Pearson, Captain Horst?"

The group of FBI outside the apartment were from the Monitoring Department that had previously searched Luo An's home, led, of course, by their chief Horst.

The Monitoring Department, armed with a search warrant, searched the apartment. Using "emotional perception," Luo An found that Yurik was the one with a problem, which gave him the idea to make use of Horst and his people from the Monitoring Department.

The reason was simple: Luo An was now unable to determine which agents, aside from the high-ranking officials of the Los Angeles Branch and outside their Special Investigation Team, had issues and which did not.

Instead of seeking support that he would have to guard against being backstabbed later, it was better to turn straight to Horst and his folks from the Monitoring Department.

Firstly, Luo An had already determined that most of them merely disliked him, without actual malice, and the only one with other ideas about him was locked up in the Special Investigation Team's interrogation room by Luo An himself.

So, the former enemies had now become the best protection in the current situation. For their own cases and face, the Monitoring Department would not allow Luo An, a "suspect," to die at the hands of others.

Secondly, since the mastermind behind the scenes was only using the Monitoring Department as pawns, it indicated that the mastermind did not have the power to control the Monitoring Department completely.

Otherwise, even if Luo An took the offshore accounts, the mastermind could have fabricated other charges against Luo An.

Having realized this, Luo An immediately decided to turn the tables:

If the mastermind behind the scenes counted on the Monitoring Department as their pawn against him, then he could also use the Monitoring Department as his pawn to plot against the mastermind.

Luo An left Mona and Michelle at the Special Investigation Team exactly for this reason: to have them contact Horst and his team as quickly as possible when needed by Luo An.

When he left the Los Angeles FBI building earlier and noticed vehicles following him, Luo An quickly pressed the contactor to get in touch with Mona, prompting her to reach out to the Monitoring Department.

While chatting with Lawrence inside the apartment, the Monitoring Department was on its way.

The black-clad enemies attacked the apartment, and as Luo An successfully interrogated Lawrence, Mona indicated that the Monitoring Department was about to arrive.

During this period, Mona followed Luo An's arrangement, using computer technology to broadcast Luo An's negotiation with Lawrence to the internal Monitoring Department. Everything Lawrence said afterwards, including all the clues, was heard loud and clear by the Monitoring Department.

Under these circumstances, Horst and his people in the Monitoring Department naturally knew the truth about Luo An being framed and also learned of the criminal behavior of a high-ranking official embezzling money from the foundation.

Luo An thought it through clearly. Facing off against the FBI's higher-ups, even with evidence in hand, ensuing proof, trials, and so on would be a very time-consuming process.

The members of the Special Investigation Team could be counted on one hand; they definitely couldn't afford to devote all their time to just this one case.

What's more, Luo An couldn't guarantee that, after today, the allies of the FBI executives wouldn't take action against the other few members of the Special Investigation Team.

Under these circumstances, leaving the follow-up work of this case to the Monitoring Department was naturally the best choice:

The Monitoring Department was specifically responsible for handling criminal cases involving FBI internal management personnel; moreover, they were numerous, experienced in handling such cases, and had the time and ability to contend with those FBI higher-ups.

Of course, the Special Investigation Team stood to benefit as well, since after all, the key clues were uncovered by Luo An and his team. At the very least, the Special Investigation Team would claim half of the spoils after the fact.

Luo An's plan was an open strategy. When Horst from the Monitoring Department received Mona's call for support, he quickly understood this.

However, Horst had no choice but to comply, as they had the leverage of the mole Yurik within their ranks, still held in Luo An's hands.

Moreover, Mona, following Luo An's earlier instructions, told them that the interrogation records of Yurik were already sorted out, sitting in the Special Investigation Team's computer mailbox, ready to be sent to Washington at any time...

Waving his hand to signal the agents behind to deal with the bodies at the scene and to go upstairs to arrest Lawrence, Horst clenched his jaw tightly, his eyes firmly locked on Luo An:

"Deputy Group Leader Greenwood, what a crafty move."

"Far from it, it was just luck, I should be thanking you for saving my life."

Luo An chuckled heartily, extending his right hand towards Horst.

Horst looked at Luo An a few times before finally reaching out and shaking his hand.

As for the words of thanks from Luo An, Horst did not believe them at all.

There were a total of sixteen enemies, and Luo An had taken out half of them by himself, all the while making it look easy.

Horst felt that even if their Monitoring Department hadn't shown up, Luo An could probably have killed all the remaining enemies on his own.

Not just Horst thought this way; when the agents from the Monitoring Department behind him saw the corpses on the first floor of the apartment, they all gasped, staring at Luo An with their mouths agape.

They had previously heard about the bank robbery case and knew Luo An was formidable, but they had never imagined he was this capable!

Looking at Luo An right now... not only was he intelligent, adept in political maneuvers, and extremely nimble, but it was no wonder he became the deputy group leader of the Special Investigation Team at such a young age.

Plus, with strong support behind him, as long as there were no mishaps in the future, there would certainly be a place for Luo An in Washington.

Having realized all this, and still aspiring to climb higher, Horst's eyes flashed with a sharp light, and he silently resolved to build a good relationship with Luo An in the future.

However, changing attitudes too quickly could easily raise Luo An's guard, so after shaking hands, Horst still kept a cold expression and said indifferently,

"Now that Deputy Group Leader Greenwood is safe, we from the Monitoring Department will take care of the rest. We will handle it well."

Hearing this, Luo An smirked and said,

"Hey, that's a bit too much."

"I think what's excessive is Deputy Group Leader Greenwood."

Taking a step back to dodge a hand that was reaching for his shoulder, Horst glanced at Luo An,

"Is Deputy Group Leader Greenwood planning to take care of the aftermath of this case all by himself?"

Horst had already guessed Luo An's overt strategy, so his stance was clear:

Though the Monitoring Department had indeed made some minor errors in this case, they were willing to do some of the dirty, tiring, and time-consuming work, but they absolutely couldn't miss out on the benefits!

As for Horst's disgruntled look, Luo An acted as if he didn't see it and replied with a smile,

"This is a significant case, and having both our teams is more than enough. Of course, we need to work together on the follow-up.

However, do you think the case ends here?"

"Of course not!"

Horst glanced at Luo An, knowing Captain Lawrence had only shared what he knew, and there were things at a higher level which he was not aware of, so this case was surely not over.

However, Horst indicated he was not in a hurry, as the Monitoring Department was experienced in handling such cases, confident they could thoroughly investigate to the bottom.

Luo An, still smiling, spread his hands and said,

"But wouldn't that take a lot of time on your part?"

That was inevitable, the responsibilities of the Monitoring Department dictated that their investigations would be restrained and couldn't proceed too quickly.

Therefore, Horst looked at Luo An and asked,

"What do you propose?"

Luo An didn't beat around the bush and replied in a low voice,

"Seventy-thirty split on the gains after! I take seventy!"

"That's impossible!"
