Chapter 51: The Heir of The Pillar of Sorrow

Elias noted that his previous Titles had grown alongside his Attributes, and a feeling of profound amazement surged through his spine as he thought that Titles were supposed to be permanent and not subject to change unless someone accomplished a ridiculous feat that exceeded their previous action that gave them that Title in the first place, and even then, there was a high chance that the Title would not change.

He had been noticing that change was a part of who he was; maybe that was the power of his Talent.

The Good Hunter Title once gave him ten percent effectiveness against worthy prey, but that number had just been bumped to fifteen percent. A 5% growth rate in this Title was ridiculous, since percentage-based growth was not simply the sum of one plus one.

This growth was also reflected in his second Title, Late Bloomer, which had increased from 15% Lumina Absorption to 25%. When Elias had first used the Lumina Absoption Technique, he had been able to draw in seven Vitality Tornadoes because he had a ten percent increase from this Title, without it, he may have barely summoned six tornadoes of Vitality, and there was a great possibility that being able to make those Vitality Tornadoes had dpended a bit on this Title, or he may have had a weak Vitality Stream trickling into his body, and even if he had an infinite amount of Lumina available for him to absorb, without the Vitality Tornadoes, he would not have been able to break past the final two barriers.

With a twenty-five percent increase, Elias was eager to find out how much Lumina he would be able to rip out from the bodies of the fallen.

While the first two Titles had simply gained a flat increase in their effectiveness, his third Title, Vessel of the Hungry, had evolved, and he wondered if it was related to the fact that the Swarm had changed.

He had not fully processed his Status before he was attacked, but Elias had memorized everything on it, and so even with all of the changes here, he could still perfectly recall the previous words on his Status screen.

This Title had given him a hidden trait: passive draw from unknown entities. At that time, Elias could not figure out what it meant, but he had an idea.

When he was attacked by whatever creature was imitating Josef inside the statue, the storm that erupted from his body that destroyed everything around him was strange. He always knew that the Swarm seemed to control the temperature, making everything icy by their arrival, and they seemed to hate fire, but Elias knew that in the beginning, this was not the case.

The chill the swarm controlled grew as Elias used them to kill, and previously, he had thought this must be one of the Swarm’s abilities, but what if this was just scratching the surface of this power? What if this storm had been taken from the bodies of his kills and had been accumulating inside him, and when he fully summoned the Swarm, they were able to manifest all of this power?

Elias shivered when he considered the implications of this ability. The city of Stormfall worshiped Asulon the Storm, the Ascendant who killed Dhamtos the God of Dreams, but from this fragment of Divinity, he was exploring, Dhamtos may not have been Asulon’s first kill; the unknown goddess should have been his earlier target before he killed Dhamtos.

The bodies of all the targets he had killed worshipped Asulon, and it was possible that the Green Swarm was not feeding on their Lumina but something else, or... Elias subconsciously took a few steps back. What if his act of burying his prey in the statues of Asulon had given him a backdoor to his powers, and his Swarm using that connection had been feeding on the Power of the Storm Ascendant?

Was there any connection with his actions in the real world that drew him to this particular Fragment, where he saw a brief flash of the past?

Elias shook his head; that speculation was too wild, even for him. He should not place unnecessary fear in himself at this point, but he knew he would no longer be burying bodies inside Asulon’s statues in the future. The powers of the Ascendants were great and unknown, and he would be wise to tread on the path of common sense and not play with forces he did not understand... at least not yet.

After the storm that erupted from his body, Elias could no longer feel any of the Chill from the Swarm and knew that their entire storehouse of power had been expended, and in the future, he would understand more about this ability.

The Vessel of the Hungry had evolved into Ascendant Swarm Symbiosis, and the effect of Passive draw had been upgraded to Passive draw and control, making him wonder if it was now possible to control that storm that had ripped out of his body unchecked.

The first of his new Titles was Fragment Bearer, and there was no description of whether this Title gave him any abilities, but he was sure that it had its uses, even though he was not seeing them yet. Every Title had proven itself to be important, and may be the core part of an Angel’s strength and identity.

Elias knew he had to become accustomed to thinking of himself as an Angel, not a Siphon, but he wondered whether he was even worthy of being called an Angel. Still, his Status screen seemed to think this was the case, as he was already deemed to be an Ascendant candidate.

Placing those speculations aside, Elias focused on his Status screen. He had gained five new Titles. Fragment Bearer was the first, the second Title was Defier of Fate, and this Title had earned him a Sovereign’s Fate.

Elias was well aware that his actions here went against the norm, and if anyone else had entered his Fragment as a mortal, their fate would be to perish, and despite his advantages, this Fragment was a trap that should have killed him many times over.

Breaking that fate was enough to earn him this title, and although he did not know the true power of a Sovereign Fate, he knew that it was potent nevertheless, as he was sure that resisting the power of a goddess, even a dead one, was not something that could be accomplished by just anybody.

His Third new Title was, Heir of the Pillar of Sorrow, gave him the Inheritance of the Sorrowful Dirge.

Elias did not know what to feel about this title. It must surely be powerful since it was linked to the Fragment that he had just assimilated into his body, but something about it made him... sad.

This emotion was strange for Elias, and it made him uncomfortable, and he wondered about the power of this Pillar, even as he, as the wielder, was becoming affected before he had unveiled it.

Closing his eyes, Elias pushed his senses into the weight at the center of his chest, and his consciousness transitioned into the Ageless Echo, and he became a wisp inside this space.

However, Elias froze in surprise at all of the changes that had taken place inside this space.
