Chapter 57: The Fight In Silence

With an abomination straight out of the mind of a mad god, Elias suddenly recalled the words screamed by the mad goddess in the white void the moment he chose to fully become more than a mortal,

"You did not eat... You did not fly... Now you are here with the beasts, and they are hungry, my son... hahahahahahaaaa... They are so hungry."

"Fuck you," Elias growled and shattered his helmet, letting his long red hair rise into the air as if a bloody halo was following him, and he poured all of the Swarm into his hands, and his bladed fingers lengthened until they punched into the ground. He no longer had knives for fingers; now they were swords.

A quick glance at the small section of his status screen hovering at the top corner of his field of view showed him the current state of his body.

Vitality: 1581 / 2385

Stamina: 415 / 613

Eias could see that he had lost around 804 points of Vitality, but he knew that number had been higher a moment before, and it was a particularly distressing point that with the amount of health he had lost, he should have been dead twice over, if not for his Swarm’s trait of multiplying his health pool.

Without his Durability and Vitality, the hits he had taken should have simply vaporised him when he was a mortal, and even if his will lingered around for a while, there was no way he could heal from a sludge.

Unlike his Vitality, his Stamina was not recovering quickly enough, and this was troubling. It seemed that while his body had an almost unlimited ability to recover from damage, it could not generate energy to pour into his body ad infinitum.

This was the reason Elias desperately wanted to level up and not remain a Level 0 Wisp despite his powerful Elder Talent. A Fury Forge would begin reshaping their bodies with Lumina, just like he could feel inside the bodies of these creatures, and by then, his body would have an extra resource it could draw upon for energy and not just depend on his Attributes.

All of these thoughts passed through his mind in a brief moment before he set his sights on his prey. Elias refused to think of them as nothing less than prey because his Title, the Good Hunter, needed him to adopt that mindset for the extra damage it was giving him. Without this percentile increase, Elias did not think he would be able to cut through the Fury Forged bodies of these monsters.

The creature that came for him apparently decided to use the move of squashing him flat like a bug, as it drove its massive head down upon Elias, who seemed to be frozen in place.

Elias raised both of his shoulders while standing on his tiptoes. This motion pulled the ten long purple blades that had stabbed into the ground, and he took a step forward and swept his hands over him in a crisscrossing motion, even as he bent his waist so he could move to the left.

With the extra reach of his blade, Elias could have more space to act, and when the creature had slammed its head down on him, its tiny neck been revealed, and while this neck must be undoubtedly strong to support such a huge neck, Elias had butchered enough people that he knew when to slice as the tension been applied upon a certain appendage reached a limit, and with the downward motion of the creature doing most of the work for him, his blades had sliced through its neck, cutting through joints and muscles with surprising ease.

The head of the creature slammed into the ground and bounced into the air, leaving its body behind to stagger in shock. Something about this sight was so comical to Elias that he began to laugh, forgetting the calm focus that a hunter should always have.

He paid for his mistakes as the three long black tongues swept towards him, and Elias grunted as he swiped his hands forward, once, twice, three times... he cut through two of the tongues, and he stabbed the last one, before pulling back his hand, shredding the tongues into twenty strips of bleeding meat, the screams of pain from this particular creature was deafening.

But at last, his luck ended.

The Creatures may have been disorganized at first, but an intelligent mind guided them, and while it had been blinded by rage at first, that did not last for long, as it had finally begun using its advantages.

Elias was a single person, and even though he was unexpectedly dangerous, one hand could not hold back twenty.

Their massive size was a disadvantage, meaning only three of them could come at him at a time, and only two could effectively attack. However, this could not be said for their long black tongues.

In a move that was done in silence, the creatures pulled back until they surrounded Elias, their heads pressed together, creating a wall of flesh, leaving him a small space less than fifteen feet in circumference. Behind the creatures that had caged him, there were multiple dragging movements that signified that he was being enclosed by more of these creatures in the darkness.

From the sound he was hearing, they numbered in the hundreds.

Elias looked around him, noting that the faces of the creatures whose appearance was like babies were not exactly alike; there were variations, as if they were not just mass-produced monstrosities but had a sort of twisted individuality, and he wondered why his mind would think of this at this time, before fifteen black tongues fell upon him.

There was no way he could survive this, and Elias knew that he should be leaving the Fragment at this moment, there was so much for him to learn and discover, and he could always return, but Elias did not want to leave just yet... a cloud of battle was making his green eyes glow, and he did not want to leave until he killed some more of these things.

He could not check his Lumina Space, but he knew there were serious changes happening inside, and that killing a bit more would change his situation.

Besides, his Talent did not give him anything from nothing... He needed to push himself to the limit for his Attributes to grow. If leveling up was going to be hard for him, then he could not just enter any fight just to gain Lumina; he should be placing everything on the line, pushing himself to a point beyond reason... beyond even madness.

The next moments were a blur to his senses; the tongues fell upon him like whips, but these whips stripped the flesh from his bones and broke his bones in multiple places.

Elias sliced and diced, large pieces of tongues fell around him before turning to ash, else he would have slipped from the mounds of flesh surrounding him. Screams and horrible laughter surrounded him, but he fought in silence.

Vitality: 578 / 2385

Stamina: 32 / 613

His breathing was coming in labored gasps as if there was not enough air in his surroundings; his left hand had become mangled and useless, forcing Elias to only use his right hand, but even his blades could no longer cut as deeply because his energy levels were faltering.

He was rapidly reaching his limits, and this was a good time to leave, but the opening that Elias had been fighting for finally arrived... he had trimmed down these tongues enough that they were no longer effective.

Whispering, because it was the only thing he could do after nearly half his teeth had been shattered inside his mouth from a nasty tongue whip that dislocated his jaws.

"My turn."
