Chapter 107: Ch:107 The Beaten Friend

Daniel’s eyes swept over them. One was sturdy, another was fat and heavy—both clearly well-fed. A third was lean and narrow-shouldered like Krin, while the last looked little more than skin and bone.

Each of them gripped a quarterstaff tightly in their hands.

"What on earth happened to him?" another muttered, squatting beside Krin.

"Status," Daniel whispered.

’Is he dumb or something? Look at his body... even a pig would look better than him,’ Daniel murmured under his breath.

"Guys, I think Krin is possessed by the ghost," the skinny man said nervously.

Kyle immediately responded, "Shut up, Don. Jason, carry Krin on your back. We should head home and investigate who did this to our friend."

The three of them nodded with serious expressions. Jason, the sturdy man, lifted Krin onto his back, and they turned to leave, their eyes scanning the area as they walked.

Yet they couldn’t sense Daniel at all. He stayed perfectly concealed behind the tree.

"Status," Daniel whispered under his breath.

————————

The four of them faded from the path, their shadows disappearing along with them. Daniel was surprised to see an unexpected guests, armed and ready.

"Kyle, Banick, Don, Jason... hmm. These guys will eventually come for me," he whispered, eyes lowered. "Or... maybe, I’ll come for them instead."

Daniel shoved his hands into his pouch and pulled out a money pouch—it was Krin’s.

As Krin was beaten until he fainted, Daniel heard the coins in Krin’s right pocket clinking and cracking with every strike. Calmly, he slipped the pouch back into his own and continued hitting him relentlessly.

But when he opened the pouch, he was shocked by what he found inside.

"One, two, four, eight," he whispered, voice barely audible.

In total, there were thirty gold coins.

Daniel paused for a heartbeat, then stuffed the gold coins into his pouch and left the graveyard, heading straight towards home. They had weapons, money, and numbers on their side—it was clear they intended to beat him. But Krin... got uno reversed.

...

*Creak-Clang*

Daniel walked into the house and realized his parents were still asleep; the door was locked from the inside.

He went to the kitchen, poured a glass of water, and took a sip, holding it in his mouth for a moment before swallowing.

Suddenly, a wild idea struck him.

"Wait," he murmured.

He took a sip, let it linger in his mouth, and then swallowed deliberately.

*Glup*

"If I drink the potion at the same time, before my hand reaches my eye, I think I can endure it easily," he thought, gulping down the last drop.

*Glup*

Daniel knew that, eventually, he would have to obtain that ability. If he didn’t, he would die, and his goal of becoming powerful would be lost—something he could never allow.

Everyone carries their own suffering and pain, their own fears buried deep within.

But Daniel feared neither pain nor death—pain was simply part of life, and death... he had already tasted it once before.

*Sigh~*

Daniel set the clay glass down and walked toward the backyard, his fingers trembling slightly—but his mind was already made up.

He would obtain that ability. Right now. Right here.

’Come on Daniel, this is nothing... this won’t kill you but it will be painful, but I have healing potion, but I what if... no, it will work,’ he muttered to himself as he drew the circles in the backyard.

He then withdrew the Grimbook and began drawing the eye—an eye that resembled the Eye of Ra.

Within minutes, the diagram was completed.

Daniel turned the page and read the description of the ability one final time. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

Daniel moved his thumb and pressed it against the left illustration, the one that carried the slightest risk of failure. The moment he lifted his thumb, the illustration darkened, from red to black—sealing his decision.

"Haaah..." he exhaled deeply, his forehead warming rapidly.

He pulled out the healing potion and held it in his left hand. Everything was set—the only thing left was to chant the spell.

*Sigh~*

The challenge was to drink the potion as quickly as lightning, for once the chant began, he would immediately lose control of his body.

*Gasp-Gasp*
