Limitless Summoner: Rise of the Soul God-Chapter 96: Rich!
The old man led them toward a barn at the edge of the village, its wooden doors reinforced with crude barricades. Scratch marks lined the outside, and a faint, rotten stench lingered in the air. "Alright, I will take it from here, sir. Please ask the villagers to stay away from this area. I am not sure if I will be able to protect anyone if some of the rats run away."
The old man nodded and in the next hour, the entire area became deserted. Only then did Ethan kick open the barricade. The moment the doors creaked open, numerous beady red eyes glowed in the darkness.
Each rat was the size of a cat and their teeth looked dangerously sharp. But otherwise, there was nothing too special about them.
Ethan was about to dash in with his dagger but a thick wave of decay and filth hit him like a wall. The stench was overwhelming, a mix of rot, and damp wood.
He grimaced summoning his wolves immediately. "I think I will let you guys handle this one." He waved them away, stepping back outside.
He liked this specific perk of being a mage and a summoner. He did not have to get close to the rats to get in on some of the action. He made a finger gun and pointed it at the rats, shooting out small mana bolts one after the other. Some of them hit the mark. Some did not.
It didn’t matter because his wolves didn’t need extra help to care for the rats.
The wolves lunged into the barn, their sleek forms weaving through the darkness. Their snarls filled the space, punctuated by the high-pitched squeals of dying rats as claws and fangs tore through matted fur and brittle bones.
Ethan stood at the entrance, casually picking off stragglers with his mana bolts. Every time a rat tried to make a break for it, a quick shot from his fingers sent it tumbling back into the mass of carnage. He didn’t even need to aim properly—there were so many of them that missing was nearly impossible.
Lia stood a short distance away, watching with a mix of fascination and mild horror. "Master… this is practically a massacre."
Ethan smirked, eyes flicking to his wolves. "And that’s exactly what we need." The rats were falling like leaves in a storm and he had added about twenty rats to his summoning list in just a few minutes.

But something was off. More rats kept coming. Ethan frowned as he couldn’t understand how so many of them could possibly be in a single barn. He decided to ignore the foul stench and once again walked into the barn to get a better look at things.
It was good that he did that because only now he noticed the big gaping hole in the ground at the back of the barn.
Ethan narrowed his eyes, stepping closer to the massive hole in the center of the barn. The edges were jagged as if gnawed open by countless teeth, and a dark tunnel stretched downward into the earth.
More rats continued to spill out of the hole.
"Master!" Lia trembled as she continued to buff the wolves. "That… that looks like a beast nest!"
Ethan did not argue with her. He did not know if it was full blown beast nest or not but it was definitely something more than a simple infestation problem. He wondered why the city lord didn’t bother dealing with it especially when it was so close to the main city.
Something was still not adding up, but clearly this was not the time to be overthinking things. Ethan backed away and immediately summoned his second wave of fighters, the lesser demons. He had ten of them under his command and all of them were around level 12.
The twenty five wolves were more than enough to handle the dozens of rats pouring out of the hole. Ethan summoned the back up for an entirely different reason. They had struck it rich and he needed to use the chance properly and for that he needed extra hands.
He had the demons toss out corpses of the rats one after the other to make room for the new ones filling out the small barn. Even if a single rat corpse sold for a few coppers he was going to get rich really fast.
The demons made sure to hide themselves inside and continued tossing the bodies out. Soon the wolves showed signs of tiredness so Ethan started switching them out with goblins and the insectoids.
At this point he completely stepped out of the barn with Lia just so that he would be able to dismiss his eye-catching minions at a moments notice in case someone decided to be curious about their progress with the rat infestation.
"This is absurd, Master," she muttered, watching the growing pile of rat corpses being tossed outside like discarded trash. "I’ve never heard of a beast nest being cleared out in this fashion."
Ethan smirked. "Yeah, but it’s working in our favor. We’ll have enough rat pelts to flood the market. Wait, they do buy rat pelts and rat meat, right?"
Lia nodded. "Yes, Master but only for a couple of copper coins. It doesn’t sell for all that much."
"Ya. I expected as much."
Ethan rubbed his chin as he checked the notifications flashing in front of him one after the other. All the wolves had gained a couple of levels and the goblins and insectoids had gained a couple of levels as well. Most of his main minions were now around level 15.
The newer additions like the panther, the bear, and a couple of foxes were also leveling up extremely fast, thanks to the number of rats. The levels of these rats were on the lower side around 5 so the newer minions reaped the most benefits.
Ethan saw the progress and decided to take bolder action. Soon he summoned his army of twenty slimes. Maybe it was time he power-levelled some of his weaker minions. He did not know if that would be of any use but hey since he had the opportunity, why waste it?
