Limitless Undead System! I can Copy all Undead attributes.-Chapter 64: This Guy Is a Bitch
A few hours had passed, and the Cohort was once again healed and ready, at least, as healed as they could be to properly move without much pain lingering in their bodies.
Steven, surprisingly, had fallen asleep from all the exhaustion. Even that, in itself, was a shock to him. The fact that he had woken up still alive and breathing was an even greater one.
’Kind of expected them to slit my throat in my sleep,’ he muttered to himself, rubbing the base of his neck as if checking it was still there.
He had gotten lucky.
Silva, on the other hand, had been awake the entire time, making Steven question whether she had slept at all.
Well, there wasn’t any real way to figure that out, was there?
She was the one who woke Shawn up, and when they were all set, they left the room with Nott taking the lead.
The Grey Knight was careful when opening the door, making sure to scout ahead before stepping out. Only after confirming it was clear did he allow them through, welcoming the group into the vile stench of the hallway beyond.
They began their journey once again.
As they moved, Steven checked his system, his eyes drifting back to Silva’s stats that had been revealed to him earlier.
The stronger and more awakened one became, the greater their talents and skills grew. Right now, he was probably on the same level of strength as Silva or maybe she was just a bit stronger than he was. Or perhaps he was the one slightly ahead.
Still, if she were to get significantly stronger than him, the Fateless skill would surely fail, leaving him with no upper hand if Silva ever chose to turn against him.
’I guess it’s a race for who gets stronger faster,’ he sighed, dismissing the system as his gaze shifted to Silva ahead of him, walking in front alongside Nott.
’She’s probably thinking the same.’
The group continued through the hallways carefully, following the map’s direction and encountering no Blood Bursts along the way.
Instead, they came across something far more unsettling.
Bodies.
The corpses of Blood Bursts lay scattered across the floor, alongside a few fallen Awakened every now and then.
Still, the number of Blood Burst bodies far exceeded that of the Awakened.
This fact confused the party as they moved deeper in.
Silva kept her thoughts to herself, but Steven could tell, this was the work of other Awakened.
But just how many?
Right before his eyes lay three bodies of Blood Burst Shadow Eaters, all within the same hallway.
Which meant they had been killed at the same time.
"That’s quite... uh—" Shawn froze for a moment, searching for the right word. "Impressive."
The others silently agreed.
At the sight, Steven dismissed the Grey Knight, immediately catching the attention of the other two.
They turned to him with questioning looks.
Probably wondering why he would dismiss such a formidable presence.
"If it’s a group of Awakened, then I’d prefer to keep him hidden," Steven explained.
Silva sighed, then nodded in understanding. "Let’s go."
Steven wasted no time following after her, deliberately avoiding Shawn’s curious glance and whatever question was forming behind it.
They continued moving through the hallways, finding nothing but littered Blood Burst bodies, until they heard it.
Murmurs.
Laughter.
Footfalls echoing faintly against stone.
Hurrying to catch the source, the group bent into a corridor and were met with a stunning sight.
Humans.
Awakened just like them.
They were all camped within a large compartment that resembled a meeting hall. A massive stone table dominated the center, surrounded by a few chairs broken apart by age alone. Above them hung a dust-filled chandelier, slanted precariously as though it might crack and fall at any moment.
The pillars thinned toward their middles, chunks of grit and rubble scattered across the ground around them.
And within this place sat a number of Awakened.
Not one.
Not two.
But an entire group of more than twenty Awakened—sitting, eating, drinking, laughing in open joy.
Steven felt disgust coil in his stomach.
How easily they found comfort. How warmly they smiled. As if they hadn’t been subjected to the same brutal treatment upon entering the Realm.
’Are they even okay mentally?’
The reason for their merriment was understandable, truly. They had spawned close to one another, able to band together quickly under a single leader. With numbers like that, every battle would have been too easy to ever feel life-threatening.
For them, the Realm of Entry had been nothing short of leisure.
"How disgusting," Silva muttered under her breath. "Look at it all, both of you."
Her words snapped Steven from his thoughts, sharpening his disappointed glare and dulling Shawn’s excited expression.
"Everyone in this room almost all of them will perish. So be careful not to become them."
Steven frowned.
She was right. But why say it now?
Did she, by chance, read the fate of the entire room at a single glance?
His heart quaked at the thought as he swept his gaze across the crowd once more, counting the sheer number of Awakened present.
He dismissed the possibility as impossible.
But before he could dwell on it, three people from the group began approaching them.
The one in front was a bearded man with short brown hair—extremely handsome—and clad in highly expensive armor that screamed of a reputable household. He walked confidently, two others trailing behind him: a skinny man and a bulky black man gripping a bloodied spear, its surface still crusted with dried flesh.
"Hello, I am Brian," the bearded man said, his eyes scanning the group before stopping on Silva. His gaze lingered, slowly moving from head to toe with an unmistakably alluring intent.
Her exposed body only encouraged it.
"And you are?" he stressed.
"Silva."
He turned next to Shawn, raising a brow.
"Shawn, sir," Shawn replied, doing his best to suppress his excitement as Silva’s earlier words echoed in his mind.
Brian smiled. "That’s nice. You’re all welcome to join our Cohort."
Steven frowned.
’What, no introduction for me? Is this meant to be a practical joke?’
"Sorry you arrived when you did," Brian continued, never once removing his gaze from Silva’s fierce glare. "We’ll be heading out soon. Our goal is to reach the grey dot today."
"We can handle it," Silva replied coolly. "Thanks to you, we haven’t faced a single monster. If you don’t mind, can we share intel?"
Brian smiled again, that same arrogant expression igniting Steven’s irritation.
"Sure. Come along."
He turned and walked away. Silva followed. Then Shawn.
Steven lingered behind for a moment.
’This guy is a bitch.’
