Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 215: The Group Without a Camp
"Sorry, we can’t help each other, so please don’t disturb our rest either," Xu Yi said to the other party. It was obvious that these two foreigners had come over because they had seen the firelight from this side.
Xu Yi and Lu Ke didn’t put out the campfire below; they figured that once it burned out, it would extinguish on its own.
But who would have thought that another group would appear, and they were foreigners!
"OK, we understand," said the foreigner, then sat down by the fire with his companion.
Lu Ke heard the voices but didn’t come out of the hut.
She and Xu Yi had moved all the smoked meat into the hut and hung it up.
Down below, besides that pile of flames, there were only two wooden barrels left; everything else they had taken inside.
After all, leaving things outside might result in other animals carrying them off.
Xu Yi closed the door again, then prepared to lie back down.
"Shouldn’t we do something?" Lu Ke asked in a low voice; she had realized they were foreigners too.
"No need. We can’t help each other. Since they’re here, we can’t drive them away, as attacking is also prohibited," Xu Yi responded, then set down his Hunting Bow and lay back down.
"Don’t worry, they won’t dare to come up," Xu Yi added, considering there were no surveillance cameras inside. If they entered, he would directly attack and claim he was shooting at wild animals.
He felt that the organizer’s rules weren’t that strict.
Otherwise, he and Lu Ke should have received warnings by now.
He had helped Wang Jin and Lu Ke several times but had received no warnings whatsoever.
So as long as it wasn’t blatant aggression towards other groups, it probably wouldn’t be a big issue.
Of course, if it could be avoided, it should be. If they were forced out because of this, it would indeed be frustrating.
Lu Ke nodded her head and lay back down.
Outside, that group chatted a bit, and then one of them went to sleep, while the other remained by the fire, keeping watch.
Lu Ke was the first to wake up the next day.
However, she didn’t go out. Instead, she poured some water from the barrel and heated it up.
The fire inside the hut hadn’t completely died out yet.
After a while, Xu Yi opened his eyes.
"System, check in!"
Upon waking up, Xu Yi immediately checked in.
Day 61, tomorrow is Day 62, and then I can claim the monthly package.
"Morning," Xu Yi greeted as he sat up after checking in, giving a nod to Lu Ke.
"Morning," Lu Ke smiled slightly, glancing toward the door. "I wonder if that group has left yet."
"I’ll go have a look." Saying this, Xu Yi got up, adjusted his clothes, took up his Hunting Bow, and went out the door.
The two people hadn’t left; one of them still seemed to be sleeping.
The one who was awake nodded immediately upon seeing Xu Yi, gesturing slightly.
Xu Yi nodded back, then turned and said, "They haven’t left yet."
"Oh," Lu Ke responded, seemingly reluctant to go out.
"Sorry, we’ll leave here as soon as my partner Yuta wakes up."
Hearing this, Xu Yi was slightly taken aback.
Because what he heard was Chinese—was the other party speaking Chinese?
No, it wasn’t that; instead, he was understanding it as Chinese.
"The Star Chart has a translation function, don’t be surprised. My name is Corey; we are Team 403," Corey explained, with a hint of a smile on his face, giving off a friendly vibe.
"Oh, the Star Chart has this function?" Xu Yi said, glancing at the Star Chart. At last, he wouldn’t need to use his awkward English; it was indeed a good thing.
"Have you encountered any other groups?" Xu Yi asked, for knowing the Star Chart had a translation function, at the very least, meant having interfaced with other groups speaking different languages.
"Yes, you’re the 19th group Yuta and I have met," Corey replied calmly.
Xu Yi was taken aback—had they really met 19 groups?
"Don’t you have a fixed base camp?" Xu Yi suspected that Team 403 had probably covered a lot of ground.
"No, since entering this island, we’ve hardly stayed in one place, visiting many locations, which is why we’ve encountered so many groups," Corey admitted directly.
"Always on the move, does that mean you’ve circled the entire island?" Xu Yi was very surprised. After all, it had already been 56 days; how much ground had they covered walking for so long?
This group was indeed formidable!
Without strength, how could they keep moving without a base camp?
"No, we estimate we’ve covered about half, or even less. Exploring the entire island is a shared aspiration for Yuta and me," Corey said somewhat helplessly, noting the island was just too large.
They had been on the road for at least 30 days, and the further they went, the larger the island seemed, surpassing their expectations.
"You guys are amazing," Xu Yi couldn’t help but give a thumbs up. Such stamina and motivation were definitely admirable. He also wanted to explore but had never taken the action.
But these two had been doing so from the start.
"This island is dangerous, full of creatures we’ve never seen before. But managing to hold out until now is more due to our good fortune rather than anything remarkable," Corey smiled. Yuta had an extraordinary intuition that helped them avoid numerous dangers; otherwise, they wouldn’t have lasted this long.
"Yes, indeed many native creatures are exceptionally dangerous," Xu Yi agreed wholeheartedly. He and Lu Ke had encountered quite a few. Given Corey and Yuta had traveled so far, they must have seen even more.
At this moment, the person who had been asleep woke up.
He glanced at Xu Yi, then nodded.
"Alright, we should get going," Corey said, lifting up a backpack made from animal hide, which appeared to be filled with various items.
"By the way, what team number are you?" Corey suddenly asked, looking up.
"77," Xu Yi replied without hiding anything.
"Team number one in points—it’s you," Yuta said, glancing at Xu Yi. "No wonder; you give off a very dangerous vibe."
Xu Yi smiled faintly—was he really that dangerous?
"Not anymore, perhaps. By now, your points must be considerable," Xu Yi speculated that Team 403 might outperform him and Lu Ke.
"Unfortunately, we haven’t reached 100 points yet," Yuta chuckled.
"Good luck in your challenge for 500 days," Corey wished them.
"Good luck to both of you as well, in exploring the entire island soon," Xu Yi reciprocated, recognizing the courtesy and kind words.
