Chapter 45: I could just buy you from him

>Mallory

"Wait! Are you really the mysterious man behind the biggest entertainment company in Country P?"

When people talk about Country P, a few things instantly pop into their heads. The first is technology—electronics and crazy new innovations led by the giant, Archeval. The second is entertainment. And at the very top of that world stands Brave Entertainment.

Brave is the kind of company people dream about. Idols, actors, models—name it, and they’ve produced the best of the best. They say that if you debut under Brave, your career is basically set for life and to top it all, the mysterious man behind it’s success, some of the most famous speculation is that he was an actor himself, a woman, an old man and lastly a Mafia leader who runs the underground.

A lot of enemy companies are willing to throw millions just to figure out the secret behind Brave’s success, and it’s also true when it comes to uncovering the identity of the man running it all from the shadows.

Afterall, you can’t defeat someone you can’t see.

That’s why I couldn’t understand how I, just an ordinary citizen of Country P, somehow ended up knowing something that half the world would kill to learn.

Is this the sort of information that could put my life in danger? ...No, right? It shouldn’t. Hopefully, since I have enough to think of as is.

"Pfft! HAHAHAHA!" Kaizer suddenly burst out laughing, like he’d just watched the funniest comedy ever, it quickly snapped me back out.

"You have the funniest face right now, do you know that?" he said, wiping actual tears from the corners of his eyes.

"D-Don’t laugh!" I hissed, heat rushing to my cheeks.

"I’m sorry, I’m sorry! Your reaction is just too adorable," he chuckled, raising both hands as if surrendering. Then he jerked his chin toward the space behind the sofa. "Come on, sit down first."

I pouted but followed anyway. Before sitting, I gently settled Asher on the sofa. His eyes were wandering everywhere, quietly observing the entire office like it was a new world. Then, I sat beside him, my body stiff, both of my hands between my legs.

"Wait here. I’ll get you something," Kaizer said, still smiling as he walked toward the table at the center of the room.

He pressed something on the machine—I had no idea what it was, but it made a short beeping sound that echoed in the quiet office.

"What is it, Boss?" a woman’s voice came through from the device. It was a bit muffled, but I could still hear her clearly enough.

"Wait," Kaizer said to her before turning his attention back to me. "What do you want? Coffee or tea?"

I flinched, still overwhelmed by... well, everything that had been happening since I walked into this place.

"T-Then... I’ll have t-tea," I stuttered out. He only shook his head, a small smirk tugging at his lips like he was enjoying my suffering just a little too much.

Then his gaze shifted to Asher. "How about the kid? What flavor of ice cream does he want?"

"Oh—Avocado..." I said automatically. Asher perked up the moment he heard his favorite word, his eyes lighting up.

"Alright." Kaizer turned back to the machine without missing a beat. "Bring me tea and avocado ice cream. Also a few light pastries to go with it." He pressed the button again, ending the call just as casually as he started it.

He walked back toward us and settled on the sofa across the glass table, crossing his legs in that relaxed, effortless way he always had. Even in a serious-looking office like this, he somehow still gave off that carefree aura, like nothing in the world could bother him.

"I... I didn’t know you were such an important person..." I muttered, barely loud enough.

You’d think I’d be used to this by now. My best friend is literally a billionaire, and my husband isn’t exactly a normal citizen either. Of all people, I shouldn’t be acting so shy. And yet here I was, hiding behind my own voice.

"Why do you hide your identity?" I finally asked, forcing myself to lift my head. The moment I did, our eyes met—like he’d already been staring at me long before I looked up.

How long has he been watching me like that?

A slow smirk appeared on his lips as he leaned back comfortably into the sofa. "I mean, it’s such a pain to be famous..." he said, sounding like a kid complaining about chores.

I blinked. Isn’t that... literally the whole point of his company? To make people famous? I swear, this man is so strange.

"Plus, if people knew about my identity, our sales would tank. I’m not really the idol type, you see? I can’t be bothered pretending to be someone I’m not," he explained, waving his hand like the whole thing was obvious.

Then... why did he tell me?

Ah. I hate this feeling—this tight, heavy twist in my chest. Do I have to carry this kind of secret now? What if I slip up and accidentally tell someone? What would happen then? It’d be one more thing for me to feel guilty about. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Why would he trust me with this?

I clenched my arms close to myself, biting the inside of my lower lip before taking a long breath. Then I just... said it.

"If it’s that important, why would you tell it to just anyone?" I blurted. He shouldn’t trust people so easily. Someone could twist it, use it, sell it.

He stared at me like my question didn’t make any sense, his head tilting a little to the side. "But you’re not just anyone, though?" he blurted casually.

"I mean... yes, but what if I decided to sell this information to other companies? Why would you trust me? I could make millions from this secret, you know?" I said, the words tumbling out so fast I almost lost my breath.

"Well, it can’t be helped then," he said with a casual shrug. I pressed my fingers to the space between my eyebrows. Seriously... why was I even trying to reason with this man?

"And well..." he leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees. I lifted my head automatically, meeting his eyes. "If your husband was so incompetent that you had to make that decision..."

A small pause then his gaze sharpened.

"I could just buy you from him."
