Chapter 46: You have a visitor

>Mallory

"W-What?" I choked out, completely caught off guard. Buy me? What did he even mean by that?

"I’ll pay for your divorce, and then you just have to marry me. That way you won’t have to worry about making reckless decisions for money," he explained proudly, like he had just solved world peace. He really said it as if everything he was saying made perfect, logical sense.

I stared at him, speechless.

I swear—rich people! They really think they can buy anything with money. And the worst part? They’re usually not wrong. But hearing it said so casually, right in front of my face, was still unbelievably infuriating.

Not everything in the world can be bought... right? Bullshit.

Beep!

A short beep suddenly echoed through the room, sharp enough that both of us automatically turned our heads toward the door. Kaizer stood up, brushing imaginary dust from his pants.

"I’ll get it," he said with a small, easy smile before walking over. His steps were unhurried, one hand casually tucked in his pocket like this was all part of a normal afternoon.

He paused at the door, checking something on the small panel beside it before unlocking it. When he opened the door, a wheeled tray was waiting outside—neatly arranged with drinks, pastries, and what looked like a small bowl of ice cream. He grabbed the handle and pulled it inside without any effort, closing the door behind him with his foot.

"Anyway, you don’t have to worry about something so insignificant. It was my choice to let you know about my secret..." he said with a gentle smile as he began placing the snacks on the table one by one. The utensils made little clinking sounds each time they touched the glass surface.

"S-Still..." I tried to protest, but he cut me off before I could even form a real sentence.

"I’ll deal with it if it ever becomes a problem. For now, eat something and relax," he chuckled. Then he picked up the bowl of avocado ice cream and personally handed it to Asher. My son’s entire face lit up, and he let out the cutest little giggle before accepting it with both hands.

"Hope you like it," Kaizer told him warmly, reaching out to pinch his cheek. Asher practically melted.

I swear, my son has zero resistance when it comes to food.

I let out a long sigh. Well... it can’t be helped then. I could complain all I wanted, but it wouldn’t change the fact that I already knew the truth. The secret was in my hands whether I liked it or not.

My eyes drifted to the table. A steaming cup of freshly poured tea sat there, surrounded by an assortment of pastries arranged so neatly it almost felt illegal to eat them.

Heh... it all looked so tasty.

I’m not really into sweet foods, but something about pairing them with tea makes everything different. And right now, everything looked so good I was basically drooling.

He chuckled again, but this time I didn’t pay him any mind. I reached for my tea, blowing gently on the rising steam before taking a careful sip. Then I picked up one of the pastries, the one with the jam glistening on top, and took a bite.

Ahhh... it tasted just as good as it looked.

Oh, I almost forgot.

I quickly swallowed the pastry and set my cup of tea gently back on the table. When I looked up, his gaze was still fixed on me. Normally that would have made me uncomfortable, but now... it didn’t faze me at all.

"By the way, I couldn’t reach Mara. Do you perhaps have any news about her?" I asked, trying to keep my voice casual. He was now back on the couch, sitting elegantly, holding his cup like he was born to lounge this way.

"Hmmm..." he paused, as if thinking hard, then his face suddenly brightened.

"I think she’s preparing to launch a new luxury watch. You know she can’t be disturbed when she’s working...maybe that’s why you couldn’t reach her. Want me to look into it?" he asked.

I waved my hand quickly. "No... never mind. I was just worried about her," I admitted, a little flustered. I didn’t want to bother her over something so small. As long as I know she’s safe, that’s enough.

"Worried?" he chuckled again, this time like it was almost funny. "You should worry about other people instead. There’s no way Princess would ever be in danger." He gave me a look that made it clear the very idea of her being in trouble was ridiculous.

My brows knitted. Why is he talking about her like she’s some secret underground menace? She’s still just human, you know. I swear... the relationship between these siblings is beyond complicated.

I was about to say something when the device on his desk beeped sharply. Kaizer’s eyes flicked to it, and without a word, he stood up and walked over. I just followed him with my gaze, curious, as he pressed a button. The beeping stopped, replaced by the familiar, calm voice of the woman from earlier.

"Boss, you have a visitor asking to meet you," she said.

I glanced down at Asher, not paying attention to the conversation for a moment. Despite how carefully he was trying to eat his ice cream, a little had already dribbled down the sides of his mouth. I reached over and ruffled his hair, then dug into my bag for a wet wipe.

Gently, I wiped the sticky mess from his face, making sure not to startle him. Each time the wipe squished his chubby cheeks, his eyes fluttered closed, and he let out tiny, content sighs.

Hehe... so cute!

"Alright, I understand. Let him use the other entrance," Kaizer said into the device before ending the call.

I hesitated, a little worried. "Are you busy?" I asked, afraid I might be wasting his time.

"No," he replied, turning back to me with that calm, unbothered look he always had.

"It’s my cousin. I want you to meet him."
