Chapter 534: Watch Your Attitude

The ground felt invisible to Jessie after Shanz’s calm and clear words rolled out of his tone. Her eyes followed him to land on the ring that she had been wearing and squeezed her fist secretly.

Why didn’t she take it off?

The battle was endless in her mind. Maybe, a part of her wanted to keep it as their memory. Now that, Shanz had pointed out the ring in front of her, the weight of this ring felt too heavy on her. The ring not only carried the happy memories that they had but also the dreadful memories of his betrayal, scars that he left on her permanently. Still, she remembered the night when he vowed to marry her by putting this ring on her finger. No one knew about the ring exchange except them and after everything, Jessie didn’t even want to share this incident with anyone.

Jessie found her voice getting lost for a few good seconds. After sucking a sharp breath, she muttered without facing his obvious eyes,

" I..I forgot to.. remove it.."

Shanz let out a hilarious laugh on her words. For once, he wanted to hear the truth from her month. If she said that she missed him like before and still dreamt of that happy future that they pictured together, possibly he would have stripped down from the acting king position right away. Perhaps, the forever enmity with Basarisk would have ended. Perhaps, he would have also forgotten how his brother was hanged death in that land. Because love was blind and it always won over hatred.

Shanz took a step forward, grabbed onto her arms without any prior warning. His words slurred through his gritted teeth,

" Tell me, you don’t feel anything about this ring or about us? You are wearing this even though we have ended our relationship long back. Why? Didn’t you ever notice the ring in your hand or you kept putting blind eye on purpose, Jes? Tell me!"

Jessie jolted under his touch. His touch still felt so heavenly that she melted at that spot but her pain pushed her further to act cold. Facing his series of questions, Jessie went silent for a while before pushing him away with a hard shove. Her words broke the silence coldly,

" No matter what I wear or not, it doesn’t change the fact that I hate the person who gave it to me. A ring can’t change the pains that I carried in this years, Prince Shanz. You better not think of anything else."

Her words bought a dead silence between them. Few of her painful tears rolled down shamefully and Shanz was awestruck, detecting the hatred behind her voice. Did he break her too much that she was unable to fix herself?

He wondered inside his thoughts but before the conversation could continue, his butler made his appearance clear, 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

" Your Highness! The board of our council is here to negotiate with the Princess."

Both of them snapped back to reality and realized that they had urgent matters to attend now. Wiping her tears quickly, she spoke first, raising her head up to the butler,

" I am ready!"

The butler noticed his master’s pale face but didn’t dare to question anything. Pulling his attention back on Jessie, he led the way with a soft sigh,

" Please follow me this way, Princess!"

________

The inquiries session was held in an open place. Right after the hallway, the butler arranged a big table along with few chairs in their big, open corridor. The natural air was available but not enough light the area. After lightening few candles, Jessie was asked to sit down at the center table. Two rows of grim faced people sat there, carrying a cold aura as if they were some gods in land. Their momentum turned too fierce more to know that Jessie belonged to Basarisk. Ever since the king’s death there, most of the profanities from Davina hated Basarisk’s Royal. They didn’t even try to conceal it with their words and actions.

Jessie sat on her position calmly without any fear on her face. Shortly after that, Shanz also joined the table whose face was drapped in dark clouds. One of the man who was wearing an ancient coat spoke first, staring hard at Jessie’s unnerved expression,

" Princess Jessie, do you have anyone from your side?"

" No!", Jessie gave him a short reply and saw his face turning relax. The man must have thought that she brought Cedric with her. That was the reason behind his scared face before that. Nodding and heaving a sigh of relief, he started after gesturing at his other colleagues,

" There was a complaint made from our commander that you had hit one of our shifter warrior for no specific reason? Would you mind to care what happened there?"

Jessie shurgged bringing her eyes at the man,

" The first one tried to assault my maid. The second one went on argument with me for no appearent reason. So I beat them all to teach lesson."

The man didn’t hold back his anger and begun to speak firmly,

" That was indeed very shameful act from our shifter but you could have filed a complaint to the king. Your actions were very extreme and we consider it, conflicting with our laws."

Jessie darkened her gaze at the man who seemed least interested at the assault case to her maid. Laughing at his words, she blurted with a sarcasm,

" Why should I waste my time to come in Davina when I have useful hands and legs to beat them."

" Watch your attitude, lady. This isn’t your palace!", the man beside him warned in a loud voice, not liking her attitude to them. He believed that woman should be more gentle about speaking.

Jessie retorted back, darkening her eyes more at the man who just opened his mouth to speak,

" Watch your attitude too, Mr. You are speaking with a princess not with some slaves from your hostage."

The man was taken back and clenched his teeth secretly. The other man who was questioning her first turned his attention to Shanz who was in absolute silence all this time,

" What are your opinions on this case, Your Highness?"
