Loved By a Vampire King-Chapter 582: Do Something Useful
Shanz’s expression shifted into several emotions after Kenneth said those words. He never thought that the woman who used to be his bed warmer only actually became so bold to help him out. On the other hand, he couldn’t disbelieve it as well. Jessie hated him more than anything else in the world. It was practically impossible that she would help him out. But deep down..he expected..he expected that she would show a little concern for him.
Shanz swallowed the painful lump in his throat. Looking outside through the window, he thanked Kenneth as a matter of fact,
" Thank you, Ken. Like really..."
Maybe, she was the only person who showed concern for him so far. A guy without a single family member had no one to care for in actual life. Kenneth shamelessly took the credit, blowing the liquor as she continued giving her best smile,
" Don’t mention. We are family after all."
Her father was the official of Shanz’s kingdom. He wanted her to become the king’s favourite woman so that he could force the king to marry his daughter. Kenneth had been working hard to fulfill her father’s wish. In fact, she wished it well to have the best honor of Davina’s kingdom.
As Shanz was still weak, he didn’t clearly get the meaning of her one single word ’ family ’. His thoughts continued to go back to the time when Jessie’s dagger slipped past his skin. He hoped that she would scream out loud to tell him that she still loved him the same as before. But he heard nothing except the panic in her voice which was natural.
His expression turned sore again. Turning cold on the surface, Shanz told Kenneth,
" You can leave now, Kenneth. I don’t want your father to worry about you."
Kenneth’s expression sank into the bottom of the ocean. She expected that Shanz would ask her to stay overnight. But the tone that he used clearly meant that he wanted to be alone. In order to not trigger his anger, Kenneth pressed her lips together tightly, agreeing reluctantly,
" Yes, as you wish, Your Highness."
After Kenneth had left for good, Shanz’s expression continued turning colder. From being mad to be in pain, the phases of his emotions were getting horrible. His butler who was looking after Jessie came into his chamber. He had been feeling too guilty and stayed by Jessie’s bed side all this time. That little girl had bled too much, and became weak physically.
The butler bowed at Shanz habitually, notified in a voice of worry,
" Your highness! We should call the supreme healer. Princess Jessie is actually very weak."
The butler wasn’t satisfied with the Royal healer’s treatment. As they weren’t used to treating dragons, the butler thought that Jessie’s medical treatment wasn’t enough here. So, he wanted the supreme Healer to cure her.
When the butler almost imagined a positive response, Shanz’s heartless voice suddenly echoed out, shocking the butler,
" Why does it need? Remember that she isn’t a princess here, Butler. She can’t get all these special treatments because she is not one of this Royal Family. Let her suffer the way she wants. You don’t have to worry about her. I am tired and want to sleep. Get out now."
The butler failed to give any response as he was being kicked away without saying anything. Right after, Shanz told him to go out, he fell speechless by the entire situation. In the past, it was Shanz who always reminded him to take care of Jessie well.
The following day, Jessie woke up to notice that her body was full of pain. Even it was hard to move around. Feeling pathetic in her heart, the first question that she had in her mind was how Shanz was doing. Spotting a maid in her room, she asked in worry, furrowing hard to support her sour body,
" How is your king doing?"
The maid was slightly surprised to see that she was awake. Giving her a small smile, the maid told her,
" Princess, he has been awake for a good while. In fact, he told you to join the breakfast table but you were sleeping. Would you like to join now?"
She wasn’t hungry in her stomach but the thirst of seeing him on foot was much more strong than her starving. Although she wanted to act nonchalant, she couldn’t ignore the temptation of their meeting. Nodding her head blankly, Jessie replied blatantly,
" Yes, I will..I can go by myself.."
Arriving at the dinner table, Jessie found the atmosphere oddly cold. Thankfully, that annoying girl, Kenneth wasn’t present there. She walked over to a chair clumsily. From the corner of her eyes, she could see Shanz reading a paper, all good in shape. A sigh escaped her lips in relief. However, little did she expected him to talk about how she was doing. But Shanz was mute and nonchalant about her presence. As if he didn’t notice her coming, Shanz continued reading.
Jessie took the chair nervously, chose only bread to sooth her hunger as nothing suited her taste today. As she began to put jelly on the bread, the butler came to inform Shanz, bowing at him respectively,
" My lord! The stock of woods has been finished today. Allow me to send some guards to bring the woods from the forest."
Only then, Shanz shifted his attention on Jessie who was eating at the end of the table. Closing the paper in his hand, he replied in a lazy voice, his eyes continued staring hard at her face,
" Why the guards need you? I think, Princess Jessie should go with them. Isn’t she reflecting on her actions in my castle? She better learn to do some useful things, Butler."
Jessie stopped abruptly between her action, glanced up to meet his cold eyes then looked back at the injuries on her both legs. It was all because of her long gown that her bruises weren’t coming out to be seen by others.
How could he order her like a maid?
