Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 121: The Five Monsters
Ronan grabbed his pants and put them back on. After he was somewhat dressed, he put a blanket over Arielle’s sweaty body. The girl fell back asleep after their morning activity. He grabbed his tunic and kissed Arielle’s forehead briefly. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"Sorry to make you so tired."
Ronan felt he was much fresher this morning than usual. After he cleaned himself up and put on his royal clothes, the man left his room and ordered some servants to provide Arielle with new clothes after the girl woke up on her own.
Lucas was waiting at the door of his study.
"Good morning, Your Majesty," Lucas greeted the king.
Ronan just nodded and invited Lucas into his study. Ronan’s steps halted when he saw the chaos in front of his eyes.
Several books and papers had fallen on the floor. Even two lamps at the far end of the room had dropped to the floor with shattered glass. Ronan stared intently at the five perpetrators of the damage to his room.
The rabbits had ruined his study in just one night. Even Riel, the rabbit that Ronan thought was different from the others, was gnawing at a blank sheet of paper with his two tiny teeth.
Lucas panicked when he saw the king clenching his fists tightly.
Ronan took a deep breath and exhaled slowly.
"Tidy it up and feed the five monsters. Take my breakfast to the library."
"You won’t rest in your study?" Lucas asked. He felt strange that the king preferred the library to the room.
"No. The library," the man replied sharply. "Ah, and call Priest Elis for me."
Ronan chose the library because it was a quieter place for him. If he returned to the room, the man was worried that he would just devour Arielle again. She was already tired out by his seemingly insatiable appetite. He should let her rest.
As Ronan headed towards the palace library, he met William who was holding his head.
"Are you okay?" asked Ronan, and William nodded. The king invited William to come with him.
The two of them headed for the reading corner that Ronan always used, the sofa that was placed near the glass window. Ronan received some reports from William and noticed the man was still holding his head.
"You look like you’re in pain. Is everything okay?"
"I drank too much with Kael last night. And now my head feels like it is about to explode."
"Your drinking habit is really bad. You have to stop it."
"Well, I don’t have a woman to keep me company all night," William quipped, which made Ronan glare at him.
Ronan no longer paid attention to William, who was now yawning openly in front of him. The man opened the first letter that had a red dot at the end of the paper.
"The man named Matthew hasn’t been found yet?" asked Ronan in an unfriendly tone.
"The man lived in the village with his wife. After his wife’s death, he took his daughter to live a nomadic life. Our messenger said the man was recently seen in the capital of Nieverdell, looking for Tania." William tried to explain the current conditions.
"Spy around the settlement near the palace. And make sure Matthew knows that Tania is with us in the North and then bring the man here."
William nodded in understanding. Matthew was not a significant figure who could get the direct attention of a king for no reason. It was just that Ronan wanted to prove his sincerity to Tania that he was a man who could do anything for someone he cared about.
With that, he hoped Tania would no longer have to worry or have any doubts about trusting him completely with Arielle. It meant Ronan was willing to prove that he made an effort to keep Tania in the North by bringing Matthew to the North.
He understood her worth and value. Ronan knew that Tania’s and Arielle’s bond was very strong, so if Tania was willing to stay in the North, it would strengthen Arielle’s desire to also live in the North.
Ronan read a few other briefs, but none of them discussed the movement in the South or Duke Pellington.
"Why is there no report on Duke Pellington?" asked Ronan as he looked through the pile of letters in front of him.
"There is no current information from the person we sent to investigate Duke Pellington. Our people are having a hard time getting into that man’s circle."
Ronan huffed in annoyance and returned all the letters William had given him earlier. Lucas arrived with a tray of breakfast, with Priest Elis following behind.
"You summoned me, Your Majesty?"
Ronan nodded and asked the man to come closer to him. He gave his great-grandfather’s note to Priest Elis.
"Read it. There are some names I don’t understand there."
Priest Elis looked restless as he received the book with a brown leather cover.
"Your Majesty, you are allowing me to touch this?"
"Hm-hm, I think it’s too much to keep the records of my predecessors only for a king to read. If those records can find a solution to our problems so far, I will start opening up access to the room for researchers."
Priest Elis’ face brightened. He stared at the book in front of him in awe. The notes of previous kings of Northendell’s had never been able to be accessed by anyone other than the later kings.
They said the room was full of mystery, and to read even one of their books could be described as a godsend. Priest Elis looked down at Ronan, who was preoccupied with his breakfast.
"Thank you, Your Majesty. I will cross-check with the existing literature."
"Ah, and there’s one more..." Ronan put down his fork and knife and thought for a moment.
"Yes?"
"Last night, I showed Arielle my wolf form, and a strange thing happened."
"Eh? Princess Arielle has seen..." William immediately covered his mouth in surprise. Neither did Lucas or Priest Elis expect that the man had revealed his true identity so quickly.
"What kind of strange thing, Your Majesty?" asked Priest Elis, who was calmer than William and Lucas.
"Arielle can hear my voice," answered Ronan, who was also not so sure.
"Voice?"
"You know wolves can’t talk, right? And last night, I communicated with Arielle in my wolf form. She said that she could hear my voice in her head but not in her ears."
Priest Elis seemed to have read about this. But he wasn’t sure what he was thinking was right or not. He had read literature about several types of creatures that have only one partner, called a mate.
This mate bond was quite special, and not just any type of creature was able to experience it, therefore very few discussed it.
The man chose to remain silent because he felt unworthy to say something based on his assumptions alone. Priest Elis then added one more thing for him to check after returning to the Cathedral later.
"I don’t dare to answer without any basis of knowledge. If Your Majesty allows, I will cross-check it," said Priest Elis and satisfied Ronan.
"Go do that."
