Chapter 407: The Tensions

Tania put her index finger to her lips, asking William to lower his voice. She closed the door to the princess’s room, and the old woman led William away.

"Princess Arielle didn’t want to be disturbed."

Weird. Really-really weird.

"Tania, may I ask what’s wrong?" asked William.

Tania shook her head. "I didn’t know what had happened either. Princess Arielle just kept quiet and fell asleep on my lap like she always did in the South. Lately, I’ve been thinking of Princess Arielle as an adult, so i thought maybe she doesn’t need my help anymore."

She added, "However, when I saw Princess Arielle kept quiet and asked me to stroke her hair today, I immediately knew that she had a problem that she didn’t want to share."

Tania spoke while grabbing William with her.

"Then, where are you going?"

"I will prepare dinner for Princess Arielle. Finally, after a long time of convincing her, she finally agreed to have dinner."

That must be hard for Tania, William thought. Maybe it was not a right time to talk to Arielle. He should give her time and space too. He will find another way to break this tense condition.

"Okay, then I’ll come with you. I want to find Lucas."

William had a plan. He knew that something had happened between Ronan and the princess. William didn’t want to feel Ronan’s deadly aura every day. Both of them must immediately make up for the survival of many people in the palace.

He didn’t want another maid to cry again tomorrow because Ronan threw the food away. Lucas would also have a hard time finding the replacement. Or, at worst, he didn’t want any knight to be used as a punching bag by Ronan.

William managed to meet Lucas, who was still busy calming the other maids, who were starting to get scared because one of their friends came back shaking and crying because of the king’s behavior.

"Lucas, come with me for a moment," said William.

The two of them were standing in the snow just below the balcony of Ronan’s room with his window wide open. William whispered his idea to Lucas.

At first, Lucas didn’t want to join in, but William forced him. He didn’t have much choice. He couldn’t possibly ask Kael because Kael was too quiet, or Lazarus, who obviously couldn’t be serious.

William cleared his throat first to prepare his voice.

"Hey, Lucas!" William greeted Lucas in a loud voice, hoping that his voice could be heard by the person up there.

"O-Oh! Lord William!" Lucas greeted back in stammering. William raised his index finger to signal Lucas to raise his voice again. "Lord William! Did you call me?!" said Lucas in a louder voice. William raised two thumbs up in agreement.

"Did you see Princess Arielle? Is she in her room now? I have something to tell her for a moment!" William exclaimed, maintaining his loud voice. He looked up and slowly the curtains closed, but the window didn’t close. Ronan heard them!

"Ah, sorry, Lord William. Princess Arielle didn’t want to be disturbed. I don’t know what had happened... but Princess Arielle refused her dinner and chose to lock herself in her room alone!" Lucas also replied in a loud voice.

"Oh, my... What happened? Why did so many people shut themselves in lately? Is this the season to be in a bad mood?"

"I don’t know, Lord William. But I’m worried about Princess Arielle’s health if she doesn’t eat her dinner."

"That is true! If Princess Arielle got sick, what about her wedding later? Should the marriage be postponed?"

Ronan’s right eye twitched. He growled at William and Lucas’ chatter. Did they think he was stupid to believe in such nonsense? Did they think Ronan didn’t know they were faking it down there?

"Please take good care of Princess Arielle, Lucas. You are the only man I can rely on! Then, I’ll go first! I’ll meet her tomorrow in the morning"

Ronan clenched his fists at William’s last sentence. He was already burning with anger, and William doused his flames with a bucket of oil instead. Ronan’s ears turned red. He closed the balcony window so violently that the glass window shattered.

He walked back and forth in his room. The fire in the fireplace had been extinguished due to the night wind coming in through the broken window. Ronan didn’t know what to do now. He looked in the direction of the clock.

It was the first time Ronan had spent hours on something so unimportant. He grabbed his coat and left his room. It was very late, and Arielle must have fallen asleep. H

e stood in front of Arielle’s room. However, he couldn’t bring himself to knock on the door. Usually, Ronan didn’t need permission to enter the girl’s room. He just walked in, then positioned himself on the bed while hugging the sleeping Arielle.

However, this time was different. He was annoyed at Arielle because she chose to side with Lazarus ... and he was also annoyed at himself. He had disappointed Arielle. Even so, he still didn’t agree with Arielle, who asked him to apologize to Lazarus first.

Arielle’s bedroom door opened, causing Ronan to straighten himself. Tania came out with the food trolley.

"Your Majesty," Tania said. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

"Did Arielle have fallen asleep?"

"Yes, she had fallen asleep."

"Whose food is that?"

"This belongs to Princess Arielle. She only ate one spoon."

Ronan was silent and Tania thought that the king no longer wanted to ask any questions, so she left the place after asking Ronan’s permission. When he saw Tania who disappeared in the hallway, Ronan opened the door to Arielle’s room slowly.

He saw Arielle lying on the sofa with a blanket. Tania certainly wasn’t strong enough to lift the girl to the bed. He took the initiative to lift Arielle’s body and place her on the bed. He looked at Arielle’s face, that was so calm with regular breaths coming out of her mouth.

Ronan would love to hug the girl tightly, but Arielle’s disappointed face still haunted him. They had planned to spend time in Arielle’s library. He wanted to show her how to read an advanced finance report.

However, because Lazarus kicked the snow to Arielle’s face, things got messy. Ronan did act impulsively because what Lazarus did was unforgivable.

The man had kicked the snow to Arielle’s face!

Out of the many humans in this world, Lazarus kicked the snow to Arielle’s face!

Ronan certainly couldn’t accept that. What if there was a sharp stone in the pile of snow? What if the soil accidentally gets into Arielle’s eyes or mouth?

Remembering it again made Ronan burn with anger. One punch was definitely not enough for Lazarus. However, if he tried to beat Lazarus again, Arielle would definitely be much more disappointed in him.

"Fuck," he cursed softly, then left the room.

In the middle of the night, where everyone had fallen asleep, there were only a few knights on guard and patrolling around the palace. Ronan took his horse to leave the palace.

He needed to cool his head. If he stayed in the palace, he would only be haunted by guilt towards Arielle or he would be annoyed again if he met Lazarus by accident.

It seemed Ronan was starting to understand why Aimee hated Lazarus so much, since he felt the same way right now.
