Married To My Ex's Brother, Reborn Miraculously-Chapter 343: Gabriel’s helplessness
Denis fumed outside the gate when the guards stopped him. "Open the gate right now," he roared, his eyes reddening in unrestrained fury. "Who are you to stop me from meeting my father?"
"We are only following orders," the guard said. "Don’t make things worse for us. My companion is talking to the boss. If he gives the permission, we’ll let you in."
Denis, unaware of the situation inside, assumed Gabriel had barred him from entering the house. ’Dad, you don’t want to let me in,’ he thought bitterly. ’You want to cut all ties with me just because of that woman.’
His mother had died, but Gabriel didn’t show any remorse. Even though his grandfather was dead, Gabriel didn’t bother to come to the hospital and check. The more he thought, the angrier he grew.
"No one can stop me," Denis roared. "Open the gate right now. Or I’ll call the cops."
In the meantime, another guard came forward. "The boss allowed him to come inside. Open the gate."
As soon as the order came, the gate was opened.
Denis glared at those guards and stormed in, his steps brisk. He was ready for the confrontation. When he entered the house, he spotted his father seated on the sofa with Tania leaning towards him. Her hand was resting on his chest as if she couldn’t stop touching her.
Denis’ stomach rolled in disgust at the scene. He wished he could pull Tania away and shove her out of the house.
Gabriel, on the other end, stiffened in his place. Every muscle of his body became taut. He wanted to rush over to Denis, tell him everything that had happened to him, and leave this place at once. But he didn’t move an inch. Only his eyes drifted to the corner where Vlad had been hiding behind the ceramic sculpture, with a gun in his hand.
If he said or did something that raised Denis’s suspicion, Vlad wouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger. Gabriel swallowed his urge, forcing a stern look.
"Don’t come here again in the future," he muttered. "You are not allowed here. I’m afraid your presence will disturb Tania, and it will be harmful for the baby."
"You only care about her!" Denis grunted. "What about us? Mom was found dead. Her body is still lying in the morgue. But you – you are enjoying your life with this woman."
His expression twisted with scorn. "I knew this woman had no shame, but you, Dad?" Denis’s insides burned. "I believed you still have some morals. At least for the sake of the time you spent with Mom, you would arrange her funeral. But you proved me wrong."
"Gabriel," Tania whined, pouting, as if she were wronged. "He is insulting your wife, the mother of your child." She tugged at his arm. "Say something. Don’t let an outsider bully me."
Gabriel was afraid Tania would call out to Vlad and ask him to shoot Denis down. "Say sorry to her," he exclaimed. "She is the mistress of this house. How dare you disrespect her?"
"No," Denis bellowed with hatred. "My mother was the real mistress of this house. This woman can never take her place."
"Whether you accept it or not, the truth will remain unchanged," Tania said with an evil smile. "I am now the owner of this house. Gabriel gave me not only this house but all the properties he owned. He transferred his shares to our baby."
She gently put her hand on her tummy. "And we are getting married soon. So you should be respectful to me. Got it?"
Denis couldn’t believe what he had just heard was true. He shook his head. "This is not true," he muttered. "This can’t be. Right, Dad?"
He looked at Gabriel, who remained silent and rigid in his place. The last bit of hope was dashed. His illusion shattered. He realized everything that Tania had said was true.
His father was so blinded by Tania that he had not hesitated to give her everything. He no longer cared for his family. Tania and the child in her womb were his new family now.
"You gave away your property and shares to her and her baby. Is she even worthy?" Denis looked at Gabriel with pain in his eyes.
"I love her," Gabriel muttered. "She is carrying my child. I can give her whatever I want. Who are you to question me?" His eyes moved to the corner of the hall as he noticed a slight movement. When he saw Vlad aiming the gun at Denis, his heart lurched.
"Don’t make any more trouble here. Get out right now," he yelled at the top of his lungs. He shot him a stern look, pretending to be angry. But his voice faltered slightly, betraying him.
Denis was still unaware of the lurking danger in the shadows. His thoughts were tangled, his chest heavy with grief. He had just lost his grandfather, leaving his heart aching and hollow. At that moment, all he longed for was the presence of his father, the only family he had left. He wanted him to stay by his side, to hold him, to share the weight of his sorrow. Instead, he was met with coldness.
Gabriel left him when he needed him the most.
Denis felt as if he was abandoned, stripped of the fragile hope. He recalled Dimitri’s last words – Gabriel and Jeanne weren’t his real parents.
"Hah..." A bitter chuckle escaped his lips.
Why would Gabriel care about him? He wasn’t his biological son. The child growing in Tania’s womb—that was the legitimate heir of the Beaumont name. To Gabriel, that unborn baby was everything. Denis was nothing but an unwanted, adopted son.
This realization made the pain in his heart worse. Denis finally understood why Gabriel had suddenly become so hostile toward him. It wasn’t his anger Denis was facing—it was rejection.
He felt as though the world had cast him aside, leaving him stranded in a storm where no arms would ever hold him. He was adrift, unwanted, and utterly alone.
This house, this name—none of it truly belonged to Denis. Yet he couldn’t stop himself from saying, "Grandpa had a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. The doctors tried to save him, but...they couldn’t."
His shoulders slumped at the weight of the pain.
Gabriel stiffened at the news. ’Dad is dead already,’ his mind screamed. His first instinct was to jump from the sofa to demand clarification. But his body didn’t follow his command.
On top of that, Tania held his arm tightly, stopping him from moving. She even threatened him in a low voice, "One move and he will be gone forever."
Gabriel swallowed back his words, his heart tearing apart in anguish and helplessness. ’If only I could go back in time and rectify my mistakes...’ he thought bitterly.
Denis drew a shaky breath and added, "Mom and Grandpa’s funeral will be held tomorrow. If possible, please come." Without waiting for a response, he turned and fled.
As soon as the door closed behind him, Gabriel couldn’t hold back his emotions.
"Dad." He started sobbing loudly, his shoulders shaking. Guilt tore at his heart.
The butler had warned him about the old man’s poor health, but he, out of his ego and anger, had refused to believe him and kept arguing with his father.
"It’s all my fault," he cried, blaming himself. "I refused to see your discomfort. I thought you were pretending to force me."
Anger had blinded him, clouding his mind. Now, it was too late to regret it. He had lost his father forever. "I shouldn’t have argued with you. Sorry, sorry..."
He continued crying, cursing himself.
Tania quirked her lips with satisfaction. She had also cried like that, felt helpless, and even blamed herself for ever falling in love with the man, whose father had killed her parents. She was too familiar with this suffocating grief, this helpless state. Now, watching Gabriel in this helpless state, she felt as if someone had put soothing balm on her burning heart.
She had been living in grief, burning with the fire of vengeance. At this moment, watching him broken and defeated, she had the rare feeling of relief, as if the fire inside her subsided a bit.
However, it wasn’t over yet. She couldn’t start enjoying this half victory. To secure her future, she needed to defeat the two brothers. Or else, they would come back to get even with her.
Vlad came over with a twisted grin donning on his face. "Happy now? You crushed the entire family. The old man is dead. Gabriel is paralyzed. And Denis – well, he is lonely, wallowing in grief. It won’t take long for me to crush him."
But Tania didn’t smile back at him. She rose to her feet, her expression serious. "Don’t underestimate your enemy," she warned. "Denis is not alone. He has his twin brother, Augustine."
Vlad remained unmoved as if dealing with Augustine was simple for him. He wrapped an arm around her waist and drew her closer to him. "Don’t worry about Augustine. He is nothing in front of me."
"Really?" Tania flashed a provocative smile.
"I already planned to bring him down," Vlad said with confidence. "Just give me some time, and you will see him kneeling in front of me, begging for mercy."
Tania grinned, her eyes shining with anticipation. "I can’t wait..."
"Neither can I." He drew her closer to his chest, running the tip of the gun down her jaw. "Shall we pick up where we left off?"
Tania nodded eagerly.
That was all Vlad needed. In a flash, he scooped her up in his arms and carried her back into the room. Gabriel, lost in his sorrow, hardly registered what they were saying or doing.
