Chapter 122: The Sacrifice

Eira packed her belongings in a blank face.

She didn’t want to feel the pain that clawed at her chest, threatening to overwhelm her.

Vanesa stood by the doorway, her hands clasped together nervously.

"You can stay here," Eira said flatly, not looking at her.

Vanesa blinked, surprised. "Eira, you don’t have to—"

"I don’t care," Eira interrupted, shoving another sweater into her suitcase. "Just don’t make me regret it."

Vanesa’s lips trembled, but she nodded silently.

Eira zipped her suitcase and pulled it off the bed.

Before she walked out, she paused at the door.

"Don’t touch anything that doesn’t belong to you. And don’t think this means I forgive you."

Vanesa nodded again, watching as Eira left without a backward glance.

Meanwhile, Callian was in his office, standing at the window, staring out at the city.

His phone vibrated on his desk.

"She’s leaving now," said one of his security agents.

Callian’s jaw tightened. "Make sure she gets to her destination safely. Set up surveillance near her new place. I want reports on everything—her moves, her visitors, everything."

"Yes, sir," the agent replied.

"I want Eira to be followed by security day and night. And she can’t know about it."

"Roger."

Rylan walked in without knocking, "What the hell is going on, Callian? I just saw Eira leaving with a suitcase."

Callian didn’t turn around. "She’s not safe. I had to make sure to leave her, so Mita doesn’t kill her."

"Mita?"

"Yes. Mita barged in here yesterday with a hitman footage. She almost shot Eira."

"What? How dare she? Did you go to the police? Did you strangle her yourself?"

"What is the point? Eira was one second away from leaving me forever. I couldn’t let that happen..." He sighed.

"So you did what?"

"I agreed to Mita’s conditions...I will divorce Eira and will marry Mita."

"Does Eira know?"

"No...and it’s best if she doesn’t. I don’t want to trouble her."

Rylan frowned. "What do you mean? You’re divorcing her, and you won’t tell her why? You think this is keeping her safe?"

Callian turned to face his brother.

"Mita has a sniper watching her, Rylan. She’s threatened to kill her and the baby if I don’t go through with this."

Rylan’s eyes widened.

"That witch! She’s threatening your family? Why haven’t you told Eira the truth?"

"Because if I do, Mita will pull the trigger." Callian’s voice cracked slightly, the strain showed for the first time.

"I can’t risk it."

Rylan clenched his fists. "We need to end her. I’ll take care of this—"

"No," Callian said sharply. "We can’t act recklessly. Mita has too many people working for her. If she gets wind of anything, Eira’s life is over."

Rylan hesitated, then swore under his breath.

"You’re really going to let Mita control you like this?"

Callian exhaled slowly. "I don’t care what happens to me. I just want Eira and the baby to be safe."

Later that evening, Callian returned to his father’s estate, where Leina greeted him at the door.

She threw her arms around him in a tight hug.

"You did the right thing, Callian," she said softly.

Callian didn’t respond, his arms hanging limply at his sides.

Leina pulled back, looking up at him. "I know this is hard for you, but it’s for the best. Eira will understand one day."

Callian’s face was expressionless as he gently stepped out of her embrace. "Excuse me."

He walked past her into the study, where Mita was lounging on the couch.

"I think it’s time we make this official," Mita said, holding up her phone. "I’ll tell the press tomorrow morning that you’re divorcing Eira."

Callian didn’t respond, he scanned the room until they landed on his father, who was seated silently in the corner.

Leonardo looked up and met his son’s eyes.

Mita frowned at the lack of reaction. "Did you hear me, Callian? The world will know—"

"Do what you want," Callian said flatly, turning his back on her.

Mita’s smile faltered slightly, but she masked it quickly. "Good. You’re finally learning."

Leonardo’s brows furrowed as he watched his son leave the room.

Callian’s shoulders were stiff, his steps heavy.

The situation he carried was painfully familiar to Leonardo’s, who had once walked a similar path.

Later that night, Callian and Leonardo sat in the study.

Leonardo poured two glasses of bourbon, sliding one across the desk to his son.

"You remind me of myself," Leonardo said, breaking the silence.

Callian raised an eyebrow, taking a sip from his glass. "That’s not exactly comforting."

Leonardo chuckled darkly. "I didn’t think it would be. But I know what you’re going through."

Callian’s eyes narrowed. "You don’t know anything about what I’m going through."

He leaned back in his chair, studying his son carefully. "I know more than you think. Once upon a time, I had to let go of someone I loved too...Helen."

Callian’s grip tightened on the glass. "What are you talking about?"

Leonardo stared into the flames, "Helen wasn’t just my crush. She was the love of my life. But before I could marry her, I lost her—because of Henry and Steven."

Callian frowned. "What did they do?"

"They didn’t want me to marry her," Leonarso said bitterly.

"They saw her as a distraction, a liability. Steven threatened her. My father pulled strings to make sure she had no choice but to leave me. I was powerless to stop them."

Callian’s chest tightened. "And you just let it happen?"

Leonardo’s eyes darkened. "I didn’t have your strength, Callian. I didn’t fight back. I let them control me, and I’ve regretted it every day since."

Callian looked away, his father’s words sinking in.

"I don’t know what Mita has over you, but don’t let her win. Don’t let her take away the one thing that matters most to you. Because once it’s gone, Callian... you’ll never get it back."

Callian swallowed hard, his emotions were ready to spill over.

But he said nothing.

All he could do was to think of Eira and the impossible situation he was trapped in.

"It’s not too late to fight, son. But if you’re going to fight, you have to be smart about it. Don’t let her see you coming."

Callian nodded slowly. freewebnøvel_com

He didn’t know how he was going to save Eira, but one thing was clear—he wasn’t going to let Mita destroy everything he held dear.
