Chapter 121: Shattered Promises
Eira’s breath caught in her throat.
The world around her faded, colors blurred into a dull haze.
Her heart thudded in her chest, a drumbeat that drowned out the rustle of snow outside.
It was like she could just feel the cool breeze brush against her skin, but it was the icy grip of anxiety that held her in place, roots anchoring her to the ground.
She was staring at Callian as if he had spoken a foreign language.
"Callian, what are you talking about?" she asked in a soft and shaky voice.
"You don’t mean that. You can’t mean that."
"I do," Callian said in a distant tone, though his heart was breaking with every word.
He refused to meet her eyes. "This isn’t working anymore, Eira. I’ve made up my mind."
Eira’s throat tightened, her hands clenched into fists at her sides. fгeewebnovёl.com
"Made up your mind? Just like that? What happened? Yesterday, everything was fine, and now—"
Callian interrupted her in a harsh voice.
"Yesterday, I was pretending. For your sake. For the baby’s sake."
Her eyes widened, and she took a step back.
"You know I’m pregnant? Callian, this isn’t just about us anymore. There’s a child involved—our child. How can you—"
"I’ll take care of the baby," he cut her off, his words sharp.
"You can stay in the penthouse. I’ll make sure you and the baby have everything you need. That’s part of the divorce agreement."
Eira’s jaw dropped, and tears spilled down her cheeks.
"I don’t want your penthouse. I don’t want your money. I want you, Callian! We’re supposed to be a family. Don’t you care about that?"
Callian flinched, his fists clenched at his sides.
He wanted to shout that he cared more than anything, that he was doing this to protect her, but he couldn’t.
Instead, he said, "I can’t be the man you want me to be, Eira. I can’t give you what you deserve."
Her voice cracked as she pleaded, "You’re lying. I know you are. Tell me what’s really going on. Who’s making you do this?"
"No one is making me do anything," he lied, his voice flat. "This is my choice."
Eira shook her head, her tears fell faster.
"You’re a coward, Callian. You’re running away because you’re scared."
Callian’s breath hitched, but he forced himself to stand tall.
"Believe what you want, Eira. But this is for the best."
"For the best?" she shouted, her voice breaking.
"You’re throwing away everything we’ve built! Everything we’ve dreamed of! And for what?"
He didn’t answer. He couldn’t.
She stared at him with a trembling body. "Is there someone else?"
Callian hesitated for only a moment before nodding. "Yes."
Eira gasped, the pain in her chest filled the lungs. "Who?"
"Mita," he said.
Her eyes widened in disbelief.
"Mita? Are you serious? The woman who has tried to destroy us at every turn? How could you even—"
"I’m marrying her," Callian said emotionlessly. "And I hope you’ll move on too. Once Henry is in jail, you can find someone who truly makes you happy."
Eira’s heart shattered. "You’re marrying Mita? You’re leaving me for her?"
"It’s not about leaving you," he said. "It’s about moving forward."
Eira let out a bitter laugh, shaking her head.
"Moving forward? That’s what you’re calling this? Abandoning your wife and unborn child for someone like Mita?"
Callian’s jaw tightened, and he turned away, unable to face her anymore.
"I’ve said all I need to say. The papers will be ready soon."
Eira’s voice rose, filled with pain.
"You’re a liar, Callian. You’re lying to yourself, to me, to everyone. And someday, you’re going to regret this. You’re going to realize that you threw away the only people who loved you."
Callian’s shoulders slumped, but he didn’t turn back. "I hope you find peace, Eira. That’s all I want for you."
Eira watched as he walked away, her heart broke with every step he took.
She sank to the floor, clutching her stomach as sobs wracked her body.
In the hallway, Callian leaned against the wall, his own tears falling silently.
He knew he was breaking her heart, but he also knew that it was the only way to keep her safe.
"I’m sorry, Eira," he whispered to himself. "I love you more than you’ll ever know."
Eira sat on the cold floor of the penthouse, her body wouldn’t stop shaking as Callian’s words crushed her.
Her tears blurred the world around her, but nothing could drown the emptiness now settling in her chest.
She pressed a hand to her stomach, her uncontrollable fingers tried to comfort the life growing inside her, but even that felt futile.
She had always been cautious with trust, careful not to let people in too quickly.
Life had taught her to be wary, to shield herself from those who could harm her.
But Callian had been different.
He was the one person she had allowed herself to lean on, the one person she thought would never leave her side.
The way he had looked at her, the warmth in his eyes when he spoke of their future together, had been her knight in a messy world.
She had believed in him—in his love, his promises.
And now, it was all gone.
He had betrayed her in the cruelest way, taking the foundation of everything she had built with him and shattering it without a second thought.
His cold words, his emotionless tone, repeated in her mind, stabbing at her like shards of glass.
"I don’t love you anymore."
How could he?
How could the man she had trusted above all others, the man she had chosen to share her life with, turn into this stranger?
The thought was unbearable.
Every time she tried to rationalize his actions, it only deepened the pain.
She wanted to scream, to rage, to demand answers.
But what good would it do? He had made his choice, and it wasn’t her.
The realization left her feeling hollow, a shell of the woman she had been just hours ago.
