Chapter 93: Vanesa’s Rejection

Eira stepped out of her lecture hall, full of thoughts of the situation surrounding Henry and Marion’s suspicious death.

Her heart still felt heavy, but she refused to let it weigh her down.

Not today.

She adjusted the strap of her bag and scanned the courtyard, her eyes searched for familiarity.

Then, she saw William.

He stood near the old oak tree, looking relaxed but alert to the surroundings, his hands shoved into the pockets of his leather jacket.

Eira’s pace quickened, almost breaking into a run as she made her way to him.

"William!" she called, relief washed over her.

He glanced up but didn’t move.

He was calm, unreadable, and as she approached, he tilted his head slightly.

"Where have you been?" Eira demanded, stopping just in front of him. "I’ve been trying to reach you for days!"

William didn’t answer right away. Instead, he reached out and tapped her shoulder lightly, then leaned in and pushed her closer with a steady hand on her back.

His touch was strange, but comforting, silencing her questions.

"What’s going on with you?" she asked, her voice softer now. "You disappeared without a word. I thought something happened. And after my hearing, when I saw you—"

"Eira," William said finally, "Not here. Not now."

Eira frowned.

Before she could press further, movement caught her eye.

Vanesa...

She stood a short distance away, her face glaring Eira up and down.

Eira smirked, pulling back from William.

Her tone shifted immediately, icy but amused. "Well, well. Look who decided to show up."

Vanesa stepped forward, her jaw clenched. "We need to talk."

Eira raised an eyebrow, glancing at William before turning her full attention to Vanesa. "Talk? So you’ve made your decision then."

William’s hand tightened briefly on Eira’s shoulder, then released as he stepped back. "I’ll leave you two to it."

Eira nodded, her smirk deepened as she faced Vanesa. "Let’s hear it then."

Vanesa’s eyes narrowed, her hands balled into fists at her sides. "What the hell are you trying to do?"

Eira tilted her head, feigning confusion. "Do? I’m just living my life, Vanesa. What are you doing?"

"You’re trying to destroy my family," Vanesa snapped.

Eira laughed softly, shaking her head. "Destroy? Your family was crumbling long before I came back. I’m just speeding up the process."

Vanesa took a step closer, her voice lowered. "You think this is some kind of game? You think you’re clever, manipulating everyone, tearing us apart? You won’t win."

Eira’s smirk didn’t falter.

She took a deliberate step toward Vanesa, closing the space between them.

"Win? Oh, sweetheart, I already have. Our father’s lies are coming out, and you’re all too blind to see it."

"You think you’re so smart, don’t you? But you’re just as twisted as the rest of us. Maybe worse."

Eira’s expression darkened slightly, her smirk faded into something sharper.

"You think you’re innocent in all this, Vanesa? That you’re some tragic victim? You’ve played your part in your family’s destruction, whether you want to admit it or not."

Vanesa hesitated, her character cracked for just a moment. "I’m not like you," she said firmly. "I don’t need to manipulate people to get what I want."

It was quite pathetic for Eira to hear this from Vanesa. It was so hypocritical.

"Then why are you here, Vanesa? To beg me to stop? To save what’s left of your perfect little life?"

Vanesa flinched at the words, but she straightened quickly.

"I’m here to warn you. Whatever you’re planning, it’s not going to work. I’ll make sure of it."

"Hah..."

Eira laughed softly again, the sound was cold and stinging.

"Warn me? Vanesa. You’re not in any position to warn anyone. But I’ll tell you what—if you’re so desperate to play the hero, you can join me."

Vanesa froze... her hands felt paralyzed, her eyes widened slightly. "Join you?"

Eira nodded, her tone seemed to be almost sweet. "Think about it. Together, we could bring our father to his knees. You’d finally be free of his shadow, free to live your life however you want."

Vanesa’s jaw tightened, and she shook her head. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

"I’d rather burn everything to the ground myself than work with you."

Eira’s smile returned. "Suit yourself. But don’t say I didn’t offer."

Vanesa took a deep breath, her voice steadier now. "You won’t win. Whatever you’re planning, it won’t work. Father is smarter than you think. And no matter what he’s said to you, he doesn’t care about you."

Eira’s eyes gleamed with a dangerous light.

She took another step closer, raising her hand slowly.

Vanesa flinched, instinctively raising her arms as if to shield herself.

Eira chuckled, lowering her hand. "Relax, Vanesa. Nothing’s going to happen."

Vanesa’s face burned with embarrassment and anger. "You’re pathetic," she hissed.

Eira ignored the insult. "Do you know what Henry told me?"

Vanesa hesitated, but then asked. "What?"

"He told me he’d leave his entire family for me. That I’m the only one who matters to him."

The color drained from Vanesa’s face, her body stiffened as if she’d been turned to stone.

"You’re lying," she whispered, while gritting her teeth.

"Am I? Why don’t you ask him yourself?"

Eira took a step back. "Good talk, Vanesa. Let me know when you’re ready to see the truth."

She turned on her heel and walked away, leaving Vanesa standing alone, her heart pounded faster.

From a distance, William watched the exchange.

Whatever game was being played, he knew the stakes were only getting higher.

It wasn’t the time for him to reveal himself, not yet.

Eira wasn’t going to be ready, and he didn’t know about Callian’s reaction.

But for at least some time, he wanted to enjoy Eira’s company until he’s told to leave her alone.

"What makes you so special?" William asked louder.

"Why does everyone want to be next to you? Why do they feel the need to protect you?"

He let out a long sigh, relieving himself a little.

"Not now... not yet..."
