Chapter 413: Rivals~ ... Working Together

(Author’s POV)

*BANG*

"Dammit, where has she disappeared to~ ...." Alaric barked while slamming his hand. It had been more than an hour, but there was still no trace or any news about Myra. With each passing second, the irritation in his chest was prickling at him mercilessly. He was having this ominous feeling, but he couldn’t point out why.

Even Alex wasn’t able to track her scent down, which was concerning and made his heart sink.

Esteria was relatively new to Alaric, and he had no aide here to help him in tracing down Myra’s whereabouts.

As his brain was all muddled up, trying to find her, he saw a car passing by~ .... at terrifying speed, as if the person was racing against time.

Alaric cursed out loud, but after looking closely, realized it was Fabian’s car number. He instantly felt something off and chased after his vehicle. With one swift move, he blocked his way, got out and started approaching Fabian.

Fabian was on his way towards the location provided by Gunnar. But he was surprised to see Alaric. His hands resting on the steering wheel, clenched tightly.

Alaric tapped the window, and after Fabian lowered it, he said, "Weren’t you going to sleep in your room, Mr. Stephens? What are you doing out here?"

"Do I need to tell you about my schedule, Mr. Everests? Get your car out of the way. I have to be somewhere, really urgent," Fabian spoke, through gritted teeth. Alaric observed his expression for a split second and knew he, too, was searching for Myra.

Fabian was a local, so he maybe a best bet to look for Myra rather than searching for her alone. With no other option left, he sighed and said, "I know what your urgent business is~ .... Fabian Stephens. I will come with you."

"No, you will not," Fabian turned him down. He didn’t wanted Alaric anywhere near Myra and didn’t want him involved.

"Was I asking you? No," Alaric answered without a care. He then locked his car and settled inside the passenger seat, uninvitedly so.

But Fabian didn’t move an inch. Alaric rolled his eyes and stated, "Her life is in danger. Do you want to waste time with this back and forth? You probably don’t want something for her to happen. Do you? I know, you know where she is. Just drive already."

Alaric knew Fabian cared for Myra more than a normal friend would.

Fabian remarked, "How do you know she is in danger? Are you the one~ ... behind it ...."

"Don’t let your mind run wild, Stephens. If I wanted to do something to her. I would do it any day without anyone knowing. You are already aware of my capabilities," Alaric said. "Just drive. My wolf will track her scent down. It will be way easier."

Fabian was doubtful and suspicious, but saving Myra was their top priority. He quickly reversed his car, and they were on their way to the destination. He then recalled something and asked, "But how do you even know that she is in danger, Mr. Everests?"

Alaric sniffed the air and said, "I received a call from her," and left it at that.

"Call from her? Why would she call you?" Fabian’s eyes narrowed as he glanced at the already focused Alaric. His eyes were now much darker as he was in the zone. Fabian felt an inexplicable feeling of irritation and jealousy. Myra didn’t call him even when so much happened to her, but she called Alaric for help. So, how could he not feel bitter?

Alaric chose to ignore his words as they neared the place where Myra’s phone’s signal had been last located.

As soon as they reached the place and got out of the car, Alaric’s phone started buzzing. He didn’t want to pick it up, but when he saw the call was from an unknown number, he eventually answered because it was his personal contact, and not many people knew about it.

"Hello~ ...." he said, half his mind was on whiffing for any lingering scent of Myra.

For the first few seconds, no answer came, but all of a sudden, a soft, almost shivering voice came from the other side, "Hello~ .... ummm~ ...." Myra started, "Sir, can you~ .... can you come to the abandonment forest on the outskirts of the city, alone? I have been kidnapped." She made sure not to utter his name, though she knew who he was.

There was radio silence from the other end, making not just Myra but everyone in the room nervous. Then out of the blue, a scoff reverberated from the other end, "Hahhh~ .... is this a new style of pranking nowadays? Do I seem so idle to waste my time like that?" Alaric replied.

Myra chewed at her now burst lower lip, tasting blood. She opened her mouth and then closed it. The ruthlessness of his words was stinging, more than the slaps and cuts she received earlier. She didn’t know what to say.

Fabian, who was standing near Alaric, heard Myra’s voice as their surroundings were eerily silent. "My~ ...." he was about to utter when Alaric quickly covered his mouth with his free hand. Fabian tried to take it off, but Alaric’s grip tightened.

The next second, a gravelly male voice came from the other end, "Are you really going to abandon this chick? Aren’t you her sugar daddy?" It was Leroy Burton as he took the phone away.

Alaric sneered at the comment as he gestured to Fabian with his eyes to drive the car. Fabian understood immediately and hopped in while Alaric answered, settling inside, "I don’t play these sorts of cheap roles. Got it. I have got nothing to do with her. Do you think you can lure me out with these stupid tricks?"

"So, if we do anything to her~ .... you won’t mind," Leroy asked, his gaze fixated on Myra. "Well then," he disconnected the call.

Alaric’s eyes burned from sapphire to a strange shade of Maastricht blue as he heard a strident cry in the background before the call ended. The same one he heard in real time. He then instructed, "Stop the car. She is inside the forest."

The car didn’t even come to a complete halt. Alaric dashed outside and started sprinting through the forest.
