Chapter 414: What Are You?

(Author’s POV)

"What was that just now?" Zara asked as a high pitched screeching sound pierced their ears.

Leroy casually answered, "Must be the barn owls. As many people don’t frequent this place, it is full of wild animals and birds."

Wyatt glanced back at Myra, who had been immensely quiet since the phone call. Even the light in her eyes had dimmed gradually. She looked defeated, dispirited. "Your backer~ .... he doesn’t want you anymore. *tut-tut .... tut-tut* .... what will happen to you now, huhh? It seems~ .... you were a disposable bitch from the start, a total trash," he mocked her, which was followed by a nasty laugh. Others joined him as well. Their vicious laughter deafening.

Leroy then jumped in, "Wyatt Long, now that her sugar daddy clearly doesn’t need her, and you have no purpose left with her. I will be~ ...." he glanced at Myra, licking his lips, making a smacking sound.

Myra felt a terrifying chill on her back. All the dreary emotions and the pain she was feeling subsided at once when she heard his words. She spat back, "I told you I have no backer. No such person, didn’t I? You promised that if I talked to whosoever you called, you would let me go. Keep your words."

"Pufffhahahha~ ... did you believe those words? How naïve of you. Or should I call you stupid? We asked you to bring him here, and you failed to do so. So, you need to face the consequences now. Shouldn’t you?" Zara spoke, her voice laced with raw malice. "Leroy Burton~ ...."

"Yes, Mrs. Long," Leroy answered.

"You and your men are free to do anything with her. Just make sure to take care of things and clean up afterwards. You will be rewarded magnanimously," she commanded.

"Thank you for your graciousness, Mrs. Long," Larry replied.

Zara smirked viciously and made her way outside the cottage. Her pointed heels clicked on the creaking floor. Wyatt whispered something to Leroy and exited as well.

Now, only Myra and the three men were left in the confined space. Their outright, violating gaze resting on her body was giving her the creeps. The past, scarred experiences recurred in her mind, and she felt her blood run cold.

’I may die here tonight, but I would never let anyone violate me. Never,’ she steeled in her mind and tried to lurch out of the chair desperately.

One of them commented, "Seeing her struggle so much. I feel kind of pity for this little human. How desperate is she to break free. How saddening."

Larry replied playfully, "But one should not feel pity for their food. Otherwise, they will starve," and started laughing. "This is such a golden opportunity, you wouldn’t want to miss."

Leroy approached Myra, whose entire focus was on getting out of those damned shackles, as if she cared little. He placed one hand on her thigh and the other on her scratched cheek. Tracing the bleeding cut, he smelled it as if it were some addictive drug, then said, his tone husky, reeking danger, "You know~ .... since the car ride, I have been waiting to do this, human." He licked his unnaturally red lips again, showing his bared fangs to Myra.

Myra’s eyes dilated, she instantly recalled Hailey~ .... Nigel’s friend, one of the bullies. She, too, had such sharpened teeth. So, what she saw then, it wasn’t a mistake.

"What are you?" She asked.

"What am I? Haha~ .... Hahahah~ .... good question. Little human, you will soon find out what I am," he said with a glint in his eyes.

Before she could get any time to even feel scared, she saw Leroy’s face getting closer and closer. He was aiming for her bleeding cheek, wanting to lick her blood.

Her instinct kicked in as she gathered all her strength and kicked him in the balls with her bound feet.

Leroy Burton, clutching his clothed crotch, growled, snarling through his gritted teeth as he landed a meter or two away. He wasn’t expecting such a display of power from a fragile, almost broken human. That too from a weak girl like Myra.

Myra, who had lost her balance by the sheer momentum, was thrown backwards. The chair landed awkwardly to the side with a loud thud. Her temporal region of the head banged on the dampened wooden chair. Blood started to seep out, making a pool underneath her.

She laid their unconscious, lifeless, not making any movement. The smell of her blood was overwhelmingly suffocating as it stretched across the room.

While the other guy helped Leroy, Larry made his way towards Myra and checked up on her. His eyes widened as he declared, "Boss~ .... this girl, she isn’t breathing. I think she is dead."

"STOP THE FUCKING CAR. She is inside the forest," Alaric roared.

The car didn’t even come to a complete halt. Before that, Alaric dashed outside and started sprinting through the forest.

"ALARIC~ .... ALARIC~ ...." Fabian shouted. "SHIT~ ...." Fabian got out of the vehicle frantically and followed behind. The entrance was gloomy and murky, with very low visibility.

Fabian took out his phone and, with the help of its torchlight, started moving forward. But with his pace, even though he was running, he wasn’t able to catch up to the speed of a supernatural being. The more he went inside, the more it became difficult and bleak for him to see anything or move forward because of the closeness of the tall grass and trees.

In that moment, he felt so helpless and powerless, but that didn’t mean he stopped. He went inside with vigilance. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Alaric bolted inside; his eyes were dark, his heart brimming with immense anxiety. After a lot of running and sprinting, he could see something from a distance, lighting up. A smoky, acrid smell hit him as he quickened his pace. Soon, he reached the heart of the forest, where the dilapidated cottage was, but what he saw made his skin crawl.

In front of him, the wooden shack was enwrapped in red and gold flames. Not just that, due to extensive humidity, the surrounding area and the nearby trees and shrubs had caught fire as well. It had spread over a large area.

"MYRA~ .... MYRA~ ...." Alaric called out to her from the outside, his voice laced with panic, anguish, but no answer came.
