Mated To The Crippled Alpha-Chapter 209: The House Snitch
Lewis and I had spent the whole day guessing how the people behind all of this would deal with Silas. We had even prepared a trap, thinking they might try to steal his body or silence him in some hidden way. We believed we were one step ahead.
We were wrong.
Instead of sneaking in, they reported us to the police.
If Silas was truly dead, the Hale family would be dragged into a legal storm. There would be investigations, lawsuits, endless questions. If he was still alive, the police would discover that too. Either way, we were being pushed into a corner.
Whoever was behind this was not just cruel. They were calculating.
The police cars pulled up without warning. The flashing lights outside the estate caught everyone off guard. Adam rushed back the moment he heard the news. When he saw officers standing at the entrance, his face turned red.
"What is going on? Why are the police at my house?" he shouted, his voice echoing in the hall.
One of the officers stepped forward calmly. "Mr. Hale, your maid reported that there may be a body on the estate. We are here to investigate."
"A body?" Adam looked stunned. "In my estate? Who called the police? You must have the wrong place! Where would a body even come from?"
His confusion was almost genuine.
The noise downstairs disturbed Jeffrey, who had been resting. He slowly came down, leaning on his cane, his sharp eyes taking in the scene. The police had already sealed off the exits. No one was allowed to leave.
Only enter.
The maid who stepped forward was Linda Snider.
The same Linda who had drugged Silas.
I had always thought she was reliable. Daisy might have been loud and careless, but harmless. Linda had always been quiet, efficient, and polite. She blended into the background so well that no one suspected her.
When she raised her trembling hand and admitted she had made the call, every gaze in the room shifted toward her.
Daisy stared at her in disbelief. "Linda, what body are you talking about? Have you lost your mind?"
Jeffrey’s voice cut through the tension. "I would like to know as well. Since when does my house hide a corpse?"
An officer turned to Linda. "You’re the one who made the report. Tell us what you saw. Where is this body?"
Linda’s hands shook visibly. "Officer, I didn’t see the body directly... but I believe someone was killed here."
"Why would you think that?" the officer asked patiently.
"Yesterday, I noticed many bodyguards standing outside the small shed in the backyard. I’ve worked here for years and never seen such tight security. Food was being delivered there from the kitchen. I thought someone was being kept inside. And this afternoon..." She swallowed hard. "I saw Mr. Lewis’s assistant carrying cleaning supplies and a large body bag in and out. I was terrified. I thought someone in the Hale family had killed someone."
Adam’s face darkened with anger. "You ungrateful woman! I’ve treated you well all these years, and this is how you repay us? Making up lies to ruin my family? I’m the head of this household and I know nothing about this, yet you a maid claim you do?"
His words would have sounded powerful if they weren’t slightly ridiculous. As family head, he knew less than most people in that house. He didn’t know about the person in the shed. He didn’t even know his own son’s life had been switched years ago.
Nelson raised a hand to calm Adam. "Mr. Hale, please. Let her finish."
Then he turned to Linda. "You didn’t see a body. So how can you be certain someone is dead?"
Linda wiped her sweaty palms against her apron. "Because I saw the body bag. And I saw them cleaning. I was afraid something terrible had happened."
Nelson’s eyes shifted toward Lewis. "Mr. Lewis, would you like to explain?"
Lewis stood there calmly, as if the entire situation did not concern him. "Like Adam," he said evenly, "I have no idea what body she’s talking about."
"Then please take us to the shed so we can verify."
Linda stepped forward quickly. "This way."
She had clearly been watching the shed closely. She must have been waiting for the right moment before we could move Silas anywhere else to call the police and trap us.
We all walked toward the backyard. The winter air felt sharp against my skin. Bodyguards were still stationed outside the small shed.
Adam’s steps slowed. Panic flickered in his eyes. He hadn’t known about the guards either. Doubt began creeping into him. Was Linda telling the truth? What had Lewis been hiding?
Nelson looked at Lewis again. "May we check inside?"
"Of course," Lewis replied smoothly.
Adam shot Lewis several meaningful glances, practically begging for reassurance. Lewis ignored him completely, not even sparing him a look.
Then Adam turned to me, as if hoping I would give him some clue.
I met his gaze and said calmly, "Adam, are your eyes twitching? I know a doctor who treats facial spasms very well."
His face turned purple. "Maybe you should let Lewis check you instead, in case you can’t even have children."
His insult was childish, but it showed how rattled he was.
Sheila was nowhere to be seen. She had conveniently gone out to get her nails done. Whether it was coincidence or careful timing, no one could tell.
Jeffrey stood silently, anger tightening his features. Julian looked pale and confused, clearly not understanding the full situation.
The bodyguards stepped aside and slowly opened the shed door.
Lewis glanced at Linda. "Go in first. See if you find the body you’re so worried about." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Linda lowered her head and walked inside. She did not dare meet Lewis’s eyes.
Nelson and the other officers followed closely behind.
Julian leaned toward me and whispered, his voice barely steady, "If they find Silas... even if he’s alive... won’t we get into trouble for holding him here?"
His fear was real.
And for a brief moment, even my heartbeat felt too loud in my ears.
