Chapter 118: I Am

’’Charlotte.’’

Evangeline woke up with a small start. The blinding lights that assaulted her eyes made her squint away until they adjusted. She observed her surroundings in awe until her feet connected with the sea-glass floor. The pure white dress surrounding her body made her look more ethereal than she was. She stared down at the reflection on her face and noticed she no longer had that long, waist-length white hair. They were brown and lifeless like the orbs staring back at her.

She stretched forth her hands to examine them and could not tell if she was glad to be in her skin again. It’s been five years or more. She was starting to get use to that perfect body of a supernatural werewolf being than to remember how she once was.

Her brown hair was tied up into a messy yet heavenly up do. The paintings on her face highlighting her face and her lips redder than usual.

’’Charlotte...’’

The voice echoed again in this vast and holy room with large fat pillars reaching for the celestial bodies. The moon looked so close while being viewed under her feet. Everywhere, down to the flowers that decorated the glass-like walls around her and tangled themselves like Vinny serpents on the pillars to the subtle yet prominent presence of lightning and thunder above her head, felt like a dream.

A dream place.

A dream world.

A dreamy feeling.

She looked around to see who called but found herself being here all alone in this strange place. It didn’t take a minute before a figure began to walk towards her in a blur. The closer she got, the more blurry it seemed. No matter how many times Charlotte narrowed her gaze down at the approaching enigma, she couldn’t make out if she were human, werewolf, or some other otherworldly creature of this supernatural realm.

The figure paused a few feet from where she was and the surrounding atmosphere calmed. Like a peace after a raging storm. A soft wind blew past her face and her vision cleared until she could see god clearly.

She was the most beautiful and enigmatic, indescribable creature she had ever seen. Her two-golden iris in each eye adding to the air of mystery surrounding her. The dress she had on her curvy body resembled hers but with a golden belts, cuffs, and jewelry around her body. A beautiful tattoo or inscription of the crescent moon on the sides of her upper thighs and one little one that seemed to glow with a different energy on her forehead.

She observed her with a cold, uninviting look that made Charlotte to with drawl back a few steps. She was an entity you would rather not be crossed with or bring to anger.

’’We finally get to meet in person.’’

Charlotte gasped at whom this could be. It was obvious and said with no further interpretation to who she was meeting with.

Another reason why she is having a hard time surviving in this world. The one who which so many supernaturals existing in this world depend on for mostly everything.

They reverend her like a God— no. She is a god.

The moon goddess a few distances from her.

She had said and cursed this entity several times. Even vowing to beat the shits out of the god should they be chanced to meet face to face. But now that her wish has been granted, she does not wish to do such anymore. In fact, she felt like bowing on her two knees in submission before her.

’’The last time we had the chance to meet was when I held you in your purest form and brought you here to be my disciple. I didn’t know I had the chance to kill you right there in the palm of my hands, but I was too afraid of your love destroying everything I’ve worked so hard to build. But now I am not scared of him anymore and do you want to know why?’’

Not really interested.

Charlotte frowned at her. A devious smirk curved her lips as she moved a bit to the side to have a better look at her trembling form.

’’Do you know who is before you?’’

Charlotte didn’t dare say a word as their eyes followed each other’s moves. Charlotte feeling the most threatened at the moment.

’’I am everything he could never be. And I am everything you could sum up to being called a God. I am life itself.’’

She didn’t know whether the heavens agreed with her arrogance or were frowning upon it. The low groan of thunder miles above their heads was enough to have the ground beneath their feet quake.

’’I. Am. God,’’ She smiled as if that has only been her most relevant achievement in all of her existence. ’’I created everything that you’ve seen in this world. I am responsible for it all. Time, destinies, and even fate are all controlled by me. I give and I take. But sadly, I don’t take nonsense for too long, especially when it is from a fallen god that couldn’t accept the fact that I beat him. I won.’’

If Charlotte said she understood the nonsense that rolled so conveniently from her lips, she would be called a liar.

Soon, they both began to move in circles, each careful to keep a considerable around of distance between them as they did. Their eyes locked in both pride, fear and confused.

’’I am always a being that will forever stand against injustice, violence and every form of terroristic act against the work of my hands. He is the reason you are here, so you should stop blaming me for all you had to bear and suffer as a result of your transmigration. Evangeline’s death is a sin you will still be punished for when you return to your world, and it is nobody’s fault but his.’’

The satisfied smirk that curved on her lips made her insides turn. A slight chill traveled down her spine as her knees threatened to give up under her weight. The horrified look on her face conveyed everything she felt inside and Ira was greatly pleased.

’’That is how he has always been. How I came to know him. A selfish, lazy God who was entrusted with the knowledge and power of creation and the ability to give life but refused just because he was not interested, and I was only just his weak little powerless helper that the heavens placed by his side to guide him to his true light.’’

Charlotte was convinced for a moment that the world ended because of the silence that overtook them the moment she was starting to make a little more sense. The moon goddess standing before her looking as proud and arrogant as ever, but you could see in-between her eyes that she was just as falling apart as hers. The whole brave and unshaken look was only a mirror a façade masking her true emotions.

’’You heard right.’’

Another intense round of pin drop silence occurred and Charlotte found it difficult to ease the hold she had on her breath.

’’I have not always been a God. I made myself one. The eyes you are looking into is a curse. A reminder of my past as nothing but a mere helper to a God that just doesn’t want to care about the real reason why he was made by the heavens. A God that wasn’t even interested in the slightest discomfort his helper went through. A God that wanted to forfeit the dreams of the heavens for life and the birth of creation through him. A God...that just doesn’t care about anything else but himself.’’

Charlotte did nothing but stood and listened to her side of the story. Probably why she got dragged into all of this could also make sense to her as well.

’’But I cared, and I understood the vision of the heavens. I also wanted creation to happen. I wanted life and beautiful things to happen around me. I wanted to be controlling something. I wanted to be appreciated and loved for who I am. I wanted more than to be below a misguided god who misused the power he has been given from above. I tried to get him on the right path. To bend to the wills of the heavens and begin his creation. But he thought I was against him when I have always been for him. Dedicating my entire existence serving him and even...loving him more than I could control. He was my everything. I wanted him to be more than what he was. I wanted to give him that push every other person gives the person they care about. But I was scorned and cast away. He left me with no other choice but to do what I had to do to him. What the heavens wanted me to do in case he still refused to submit to them. And I was considered his...enemy. A betrayal ever since then to him.’’

Charlotte thought she was hallucinating when she saw a tear trickled down the corner of her face. Her resolve breaking with each word she let out.

’’I told him I could still make a place here for him in this little heaven of mine. That I will take care of him and continue to love him regardless of the situation. That he could be the helper I once was for him for so long and both the will of the heavens that made us and the love we have for each other will prevail. But he said no.’’
