Mated To The Demon Prince-Chapter 124: Sweetest Mistake
He waited three days before he finally went to see his beloved he’d locked up in the cells. He was certain she would die as long as his heart guarding scale remained in her— the only God artifact he came with when he fell and owned.
He used it on her to preserve her life while he made her feel just what he would have felt if she did what everyone brainwashed her to do to him. He wanted her to learn the hard way. And he thought three days’ punishment was already enough because truth be told— he never had a second of peace knowing she was down there all alone in his cell, bleeding, probably scared and crying her eyes out. He knew what he did to her was unforgivable, But it was the only way he could make her learn and most likely have her understanding it was useless trying to be against him.
He wanted the human he met and fell hopelessly in-love with back. Not this hate he got from her after knowing just what he was. He wanted that girl who talked to him even though she couldn’t see, touch but feel him back with him again. The girl who took him on so many romantic dates and received so much backlash just because she believed in him.
She loved him so much.
He wanted things to be like that between them again so he could worship her and make her the only god he will ever know, respect and acknowledge throughout his existence.
He gathered every demon skilled in healing and had them following him from behind as he stormed the dungeons and walked straight to her cell.
Darkness paused before the cell he had her locked in surprised to see her already conscious but in a very disturbing position. She was sitting on her knees with one hand covered completely in her blood placed on the floors in support while the other held on to something while trying to keep it all together. Her long, white curls of hair all bloodied like her wedding dress and covering her face like a creepy Vail. He told the physicians he brought with him to wait. He would call them in when it is the right time. He opened the doors of the cell that could only be accessed with his dark powers and stepped in, careful to observe her form only from a distance to judge with the state she was currently in.
To see if she was even sane to remember who she was.
His feet echoed as he paced before her in the cell, towering over her form as she remained in that quiet yet disturbing position.
’’Ignoring me wouldn’t make your situation less bad than it is, Charlotte or keep you from being brutally scolded by me for your intentions towards me.’’
He only heard a quiet sigh from her. He stopped his pacing.
’’Raise your head and look at me,’’ He ordered not caring if he sounded too harsh.
He was surprised again at her obedience but frightened at the sight of her bloodied eyes and death pale face with the dark vein network of the poison from the damned dagger all over her beautiful face. She looked as if she had lost it. She looked dead and lifeless. Like she had reached her breaking point and had snapped. A point where she couldn’t feel anything. Let them rain down the worst fire all over her body...it wouldn’t move her a bit.
The poison he forcibly stopped with his heart guarding scale must be why she is suffering so much and her face and body looked like this. The hole in her chest would take the longest and the hardest to heal, but he was determined to make it happen as long as he was sure to make her promise to be for him again.
She watched him lower himself to one knee before her. His gloved fingers caressing the side of her face and holding a few strands of her hair.
’’Do you actually believe killing me would automatically solve all the problems of this world? That it would stop more evil from happening and more people from dying?’’ He inquired so softly as he continued to feel every inch of her face and hair.
She answered with this creepy satisfied smile at him.
’’Evil can’t be stopped by just getting rid of one demon when there are many much worse and powerful that it would take more than just a silly blade to stop.’’
She gave him that smile again, and he grew more concerned at her behavior.
’’I love you so much, Charlotte.’’
That smile grew bigger even making her eyes water as if in disbelief.
’’I love you more than you could comprehend, and I am ready to be anything, to do anything to have you love me again.’’
A tear slipped out of her eyes as the smile on her face quivered. Blood pooling out of her lips and staining his gloved hands holding her face. She struggled to say something to him, but it all got buried with her vomits of blood. It frightened him so much to know he was the one who put her in such misery. His hold tightened on her as he drew her close.
’’You are mine, and I want you to know that and accept it just like you’ve always done before you came to my world.’’
She smiled again, showing him her bloodied teeth. Even nodding her head at him in a way that didn’t really settle within him as being genuine.
’’This is my only way of showing you how much I cherish you. And I can do better if you tell me how you want it to be.’’
She laughed.
Darkness withdrew his hands from her as her response confused him greatly. She was finding it all funny when he was being dead serious. Could it be because of the pain he made her endure that she is behaving so crazily?
The silence that occurred after her laughter which slowly progressed to a heartbreaking sob before him. It was the longest and the most agonizing silence of his entire existence. It tore him apart more than his fall and frightened him see her fall apart like this before him.
’’Charlotte,’’ he called.
’’Yes...’’ she answered in-between her sobs. His hands clenching into tight impenetrable fist beside him.
’’Have you always hated me?’’
She surprised him again when she shook her head and frowned deeply in pain.
’’Do you still hate me now?’’
She shook her head that she does not.
’’Then why did you let them convince you to end the existence of the one you love the most?’’
She stopped shaking to look at him again. ’’You...said...you would do anything and be anything for me...right?’’
He reached out for her again, holding her face in his cold hands like his entire life dependent on it. He nodded his head that he was ready all she needed was for her to say it, and it shall be done. Anything for her happiness, for her pleasure and to win her love back.
They locked eyes until it felt like forever.
’’You promise?’’
’’I swear on you.’’
That had her smiling again. It made her so happy and pleased. She should have done this. It was way easier than her original plan. That the dumb plans the heavens had to stop him.
’’When I die for real this time, I want you to stop everything. To stop killing and hating, to stop being vengeful and merciless, to stop causing pain and misery here, to stop degenerating further into a devil and to stop being...the malevolent demon prince I was introduced to moment I stepped into your universe.’’
A pin drop silence was not enough to stop the dark look that overcame him at her words. Her bloodied hands then reached out to him on her face, holding it as she grew desperate.
’’I want you to stop this madness and be happy. To have more innocent blood staining your hands and from being the terror I have known you as. I want you to first make peace with yourself before you learn how to deal with the world around you. I want you to show those who made you that you could still be the best version that they couldn’t think you could be unless you bend to their will. I want you to be good.’’
It was a lot of ask but none of that nonsense she said scared him more than her first statement.
’’What do you mean by ’when I die’?’’
Is she that ignorant to know he would never harm her if it would cost him her life?
His nightmare flashed at him at the small clammed- shaped object in-between her bloodied hands. His heart sank deeper than hell at what she’d just done. He was then able to notice how the hole in her chest looked bigger than a stabbed wound.
He stared at his crazy love as she had his mind blown in many levels of horror at what she did.
’’I had it pulled out myself because I know you will refuse if I ask nicely,’’ she chuckled, deepening his horror as she was already one step ahead of him. Both of his hands fell from her face in defeat as she leaned to rest her body on him, her face lying on his chest as she wrapped her arms around him, the heart guarding scale falling from her hands.
She was going to get killed because of him.
Darkness embraced her with all he had, burying his face deep until he couldn’t anymore.
’’Why?’’
’’So the guilty of my death would haunt you until you fulfil your promise to me to be good.’’
His eyes fell close as a drop of tear streamed down his pale cheeks. His entire world crumbling before him, slipping away from his grasp. He is holding it as much as he could, and it is driving him crazy when he could still feel her slipping away.
’’Ah,’’ she sighed as her hands moved to circle his neck, making efforts to hold and feel him too. ’’I have always desired to one day hold you like this before I died back when you were just still invisible to me. I guess believing in it until it happens worked, and it is something I am proud of taking with me to the grave. This feeling of getting to hold you, see how beautiful you are and getting to know loving you was my greatest sweetest mistake ever.’’
