Mated To The Demon Prince-Chapter 34: Family Dinner
’’Evangeline! Rise, it’s time for dinner!’’
She rose from her bed to be met with the smiley faces of both Layla and Sisi. It looked like they had just returned from the lesson she couldn’t attend with them because of someone. She stared at them both confused.
The sun was already disappearing from the sky and it would be nice to have her first meal of the day now. No one bothered bringing in anything for her to eat beacuse she has been lying in bed all day, sleeping. She does not even understand why she gets so tired easily since she came to this world.
’’No more bringing my food in bed?’’
Sisi chuckled while Layla parted her lips at her in disbelieve.
’’Of course not, silly! We were only doing that because we were worried about you and what happened. But we think it’s time you join us on the family table and be free to eat whatever you want than depend on what we bring for you.’’
Evangeline didn’t know why her heart picked up its pacing at the mention of the word, family table.
That means everyone who is related and close to Evangeline would be present, and she would have to pretend in-front of everyone that she wasn’t an intruder.
She fell back on the bed and brought the silk covers to herself.
’’I’ll pass. I just remembered that I am not hungry anymore.’’ She hoped that was enough to have them leave her alone and count her out of this dreaded family dinner.
Layla stared at their friend in disbelief. ’’How are you not hungry, Eva? I am sure you have been in this room all day and haven’t eaten anything yet.’’
She only moaned at them softly to leave her alone and buried herself more under the covers.
Layla then tilted her head a bit in suspicion at her behavior. ’’You usually don’t joke when it comes to food, and you don’t starve yourself. What happened to you when you were taken to the Jaggering Teeth Pack? It’s like you became a different person since your arrival.’’
Did they also tamper with her appetite or what?
Layla thought deeply.
Evangeline stiffened under the covers as she was already giving them a lot of reasons to start doubting her. She then threw herself out of the bed almost tripping in the process. She rounded her bed to meet with her ghost friends. She is yet to see anyone back home on earth be as pale as these two. They probably have a rare condition of...pale...li...ness that she was yet to learn about.
’’Which way to dinner?’’ She asked causing her friends to chuckle down at her. She stiffened when they both held her hands and began to lead her out of the room.
It was chilly, but the cold was bearable. She wondered how long in winter they are in this world already. As far as Charlotte is concerned about, she is not a fan of any season of the year. Be it winter, autumn, spring or even summer. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
She just likes it when it rains because she thought it is the only time the earth gets to have its bath and wash away the sins of its inhabitants. Everything looks so clean and brand new after it rains. And it smells wonderful as well.
She was led down a set of hallways with Layla and Sisi giggling and talking about all the fun they had during their ’’lesson’’ she was yet to grasp the concept. She tried to catch up on their talking and even laugh when they laughed at something they thought was funny.
’’Everyone at lesson asked of you, Evangeline.’’ Sisi smiled beside her.
Evangeline blinked as they continued to lead her down multiple paths she was sure she would miss if she walked here alone.
’’Jared asked of you too,’’ Layla winked and mushed beside her.
’’Oh,’’ was all she could say as they kept moving fast and turning around different corners.
’’I told him we will meet with him when we visit town tomorrow. After hearing what happened to you, he has been deeply concerned.’’
’’He has been deeply concerned,’’ Sisi repeated and Evangeline wondered how her twin sister wasn’t finding this behavior weird as she was.
’’Do you want to say hi to Jared when we go have fun in town tomorrow evening?’’
They were suddenly approaching a giant door that she guessed would be opening to a room where family dinner would be taking place at.
’’I... I... I guess?’’ It was more of a question than a wish. Layla and Sisi only giggled before pushing the doors open and leading her to a cozy room scattered with many maids moving left and right along the large dinning table enough to feed close to twenty people conveniently at a time. They had trays of food and drinks cradled in their hands and attending to everyone’s needs at a time.
It looked more like a feast was happening than just some random family dinner. Talk less on family dinner, Evangeline really had a large family. It made the dinning table less quiet and somber like it used to be back when it was just her and Miranda.
Her legs couldn’t move as she stared at the scene before her in awe. A soft but lively music was playing in the background and everyone was politely reaching out for a scoop of something that looked beyond appetizing.
’Hey, everyone! It’s Evangeline!’’ A woman who was also as pale as a ghost grabbed everyone’s attention by rising to her feet and turning all heads to her direction.
Layla and Sisi giggled beside her. She was thankful they hadn’t let go of her hands yet, or she swore she would have died under those hundreds of eyes staring at her.
Her heart jumped when more than half of the people who were present at the table rose from their seat and gave her a deafening cheer!
