Chapter 50: Devils

The Alpha King and the wolf guards moved in-between crushed bones and burnt flesh by the time they arrived at the northern district of Astoria. The district is protected by one of the three major ice walls and houses close to twelve major packs with their Alphas. What used to be a flourishing city now laid buried with bodies and tainted with blood.

The wolf guards moved around as instructed by the Alpha King to put off some places that were still burning and find any survivors. The moon was high in the sky and this time it did not provide any sort of comfort.

The Alpha’s King jaw was clenched hard with both regret and anger as the number of bodies detected by the wolf guards increased and there was still not a single survivor that would not make this rescue mission a total failure.

Twelve great packs with their bloodlines have been wiped out of existence in just a single night. He lowered himself on his knees before the body of a child. A young girl who couldn’t have done anything wrong to deserve this.

Her hands were both disjointed and her head was hanging loosely on her neck as her mouth still had that cry of pain, her eyes still wide as she looked like a dismantled stuffed animal. The only thing he could do was to set her soul free by wishing it eternal peace wherever they go after leaving this immortal plane. He placed his hands over her bloodied face and gently let her eyes fall close after saying a farewell prayer to the moon goddess on her behalf.

She must have had a family—must have been scared and confused and didn’t know why she had to die tonight. She must have loved once, smiled and played around multiple times.

Evangeline stared at her father from where she stood looking the most overwhelmed by the heavy smell of blood and gore.

The demon prince was truly a monster.

They were yet to find anyone that survived this tragedy, and he easily accomplished all this in one night?

Why would a person do this?

Why would someone cause this much violence?

There was nothing that could have been done to that monster that would justify him taking the lives of millions in a single night—close to less than an hour of his attack.

She stood there looking so confused and didn’t know she could be that strong enough to withstand this much violence and bloodshed. Everywhere she turned was filled with bodies stacked upon each other. Houses destroyed and burned to nothing.

The snow beneath their feet blackened—it was like his intention was to make sure life never happens to this region ever again. It was really terrifying, and she could only imagine what it was like for the victims they couldn’t save. The wolf guards kept moving around, working tirelessly to gather the bodies of thousands to bury. She looked over at what should have been a mighty and impressive structure of an ice wall, surrounding this region as a shadow of its former self. Even the surrounding air seemed to mourn, and it felt like it was a part of her that was being slaughtered or burned to the ground.

Her father gazed at the world he was supposed to be the god over and at the bodies of the people he promised but failed to protect in unexplainable sadness. The wolf guards would throw one or two concerned looks at their Alpha. She saw how they held back their tears at the loss, and how they tried to bury their pain to remain strong.

It made Evangeline wonder just who this adversary was and how he couldn’t be compared to them.

Her brothers took over in giving commands to the wolf guards while their father remained in that state, mourning. They have so far not said anything to her since she took over this body. They haven’t as much as breathed her way, but the hate looks and disgust on their faces at her presence couldn’t be overlooked.

Evangeline walked up to where the Alpha King stayed still, she found herself mimicking his position as she stood by his side, her glacial blue eyes softening on him in pity. How hard it must be to be a leader at times like this. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

She gently touched her father’s cheeks to wipe the tear that escaped his left eye.

Boromir stiffened and turned to find his daughter and heir by his side. Her eyes also observing the abused body of the little girl those mindless demons tore apart and murdered.

’’They kill aggressively,’’ She said as a wisp of cold air escaped her lips. ’’Like they have been longing to do this and waiting before they were finally given the chance to.

The Alpha King had a soft smile on his face at his intelligent little pup he couldn’t wait to see coming to her full potential soon.

’’That’s why they are called demons. Devils. They have no soul or threads in them that could be spanned to form even the tiniest bit of emotion or sympathy. Bloodthirsty monsters that despise the moon and have no salvation.’’

She turned to the man she would be calling father for the rest of her life. He was beautiful, gentle and strong.

’’Do we have any idea why they are like that?’’ Evangeline wasn’t sure if asking such a question would make her father question her little knowledge of the creatures she had been destined to conquer from birth. Ever since she arrived in this world, apart from the drama of her ex-mate and adjusting to this system, the other thing she has been hearing about were of these monsters. She was also curious to know more about them. It was time she started fulfilling her promise to her grandmother.

The Alpha King looked at her trying to find the best answer to her question, or he to did not have a clue.

’’They were all once wolves, vampires, faes and other supernatural beings like us. They rejected the light of the moon and chose to stay away from it. Fearing its smallest touch and degenerating into demons and monsters as time progresses. He came to them as a false god, rivaling the moon goddess teachings of light and further hardening their heart from the light the moon brings.’’

When he said he, she didn’t need to ask who he was talking about.
