Mated To The Demon Prince-Chapter 66: You Can
Evangeline was so tired after going through some of her classes of the day. She was able to slip away from everyone, including Layla and Sisi, who couldn’t stop yapping about how she was indeed going to be victorious in this upcoming—godforsaken duel! She was lucky to find a deserted classroom and laid her head on a table to sleep by a window.
There was this itchy feeling around her neck and her body downwards. She had a very silly dream last night. Where she was told by someone to let go of the past and make peace with the present.
It’s as similar as telling her straight in the face that she should let go of who she was before and start to accept who she was now. Though she has been making progress in that area, there was still something about who she was before that she was finding it impossible to let go. Not that letting it go can’t be done, but she wasn’t ready to. The craziest thing was how she still didn’t understand how her transmigration to this world cut her off completely from him until the point of not being able to notice the slightest trace of him.
She has always thought Ree-ree was an omnipotent entity. He couldn’t be bound by space and time, and he could do all things and make everything possible. How is a simple, uncalled-for transmigration able to keep her from him for this long?
She reached out to wipe the trace of tears that streamed down the corner of her eyes as she gazed through the window. It was not snowing as heavily this morning. The rays of the sun were a strange burnt orange and a beautiful mix of gold. Which made the snow-covered grounds to have this weird light-brown color.
She sighed at how really frustrating this was.
’’You deceiver...fraud...imposter...’’
’’ I am trapped in here for all eternity because of you.’’
She opened her eyes at the sound of her voice. The world made of solid and endless ice moving slowly like a wheel as she stood before a frozen, naked, image of herself.
Charlotte gasped in recognition at who that was.
Evangeline.
The real owner of this body, she has taken over.
’’I thought...you...died,’’ She found herself saying shamelessly as the world rotated. Her eyes widening in shock at the state she was in. Hung upside down, naked, in a block of ice that seemed to be contained by magic. She looked to be asleep as the world continued to move like the insides of a rubix cube, but somehow they both couldn’t fall off or be crushed by the irregular shaped ice pillars.
Didn’t Grandmother supreme say...
What exactly is happening...
’’Died? How selfish and insensitive.’’
The voice echoed from nowhere, but her eyes were fixed on the ice prison that held the real owner of this body prisoner for her to live in.
’’Our fates have been decided by the moon god. I am loved by everyone, but no one could stand before the moon god and stop her from doing this to me. While you, a mere human from the otherworld, was loved by just one demonic entity, and you found a way to continue existing. I will not hate you less.’’
The world moved again and this time they switched positions, and she was pushed to the extreme end and adjacent to the ice prison. She was trying so hard to focus on what her voice was telling her, but the sudden movements around were making her dizzy and unfocused and a bit nauseous. She can’t survive here that long.
’’My life is yours now without any justifiable reason why it should be so. I can’t stop you from living it if I terribly want to. I am just as good as dead now bound in this prison without any hope of being free. Now, what will you do to earn my forgiveness?’’
The world moved again, and she woke up from that dream with a start. She looked to her side and the window beside her had been closed. She was finding it hard to calm her racing heart and rapid breaths.
This time, the dream concluded with her seeking forgiveness from someone she thought was destroyed. Why were they all behaving like this was something she wanted, had a say or control over? All she wanted was to die and be in a world where her Ree-ree was there and physical for her to hold and love forevermore.
’’Was it a bad dream?’’
She jumped, almost falling off the bench at the voice that sounded beside her. She looked at Prince Xalith with a horrified look. He had made himself comfortable sitting beside her for how long?
Books sprawled over on his side of the table, showing he has been reading silently beside her while watching her sleep.
She blinked, not knowing what to say as he innocently flipped to the next page of the book he was currently reading.
’’What are you...how are you...how did you know that I was here?’’
A small smile overtook his lips as he flipped to the next page of his book. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
’’I looked everywhere for you and figured if you are not everywhere, then you must be here.’’
She gave him a doubtful stare. It would have been better if he confessed that he was following her like he does.
’’So, tell me,’’ he began, letting go of his book face down on the table as he leaned close to her. Evangeline stared at the book in disbelief. There was a high chance he had been reading it upside down. ’’What was that dream about that had you mumbling in your sleep.’’
She briefly tried to remember the full details of the dream, but it started being blurry in her head. She shook her head and told him she didn’t know what it was about.
Also....
How did he know about dreams when it was established that the people in this world aren’t allowed to dream?
She looked at the prince in doubt, who in turn tried to understand why he was being stared at her in that way.
’’You...you can...dream?’’ It came out so soft that if he wasn’t so eager to enter her face, he might have missed her question.
’’No. It’s not a normal thing here. But when did you start not being normal?’’
Fuck.
Shit.
’’Uh...’’ her face relaxed into a smile.’’You were the one that asked if I just had a dream, which you shouldn’t even have any idea of what that meant in the first place.’’
’’Then how were you so comfortable when I asked and answered that it was nothing? You gave yourself away that we are the only two people in this world that knows about the mysteries of dreams and its wondrous existence. Another reason why we should be closer than you let us be.’’
His grin was enough to put her off, even though he looked so adorable with a few strands of his hair falling over his face. Her hands went to his face on their own and slowly brushed those strands from his face.
’’But, your highness,’’ he continued with a faint blush on his cheeks as she helped him with his hair. ’’I had recently discovered the concept of dream during one of my deep solitary meditations and know how we have been forbidden from experiencing it by the god of this world. None of my teachers back home could explain or understand it. It sounded so foreign to them and absurd. It was beyond everyone’s knowledge. I studied and tried understanding what I have been revealed to. I could tell when a person is experiencing this phenomenon, but I have tried and failed to experience it myself. How come you are the first I have seen to experience this, your highness? What was your secret?’’
She did not know she had been staring at him all this while he talked so intelligently. It was a bit admirable and drawing to hear him talk like that. She found herself breaking into a smile little by little at him.
’’Do you also know, your highness, that we might actually not be the only ones existing in this vast universe? There might be a parallel universe out there with your evil or good twin. Or a thoroughly different world also under the influence that they are the only ones having a space in this vast room called the universe.’’
’’Like... a world more advanced than this, and they don’t howl to the moon or involve with magic?’’ She suggested in a playful tone earning an amused smirk from him. He turned to her with a sparkle in his green eyes.
’’Probably.’’
She stared down then looked away to hide her amusement.
This prince was just too much.
’’Your Highness...’’
’’Why do you always call me that?’’ She asked with her gaze returning to him.
He leaned closer and this time she didn’t pull back and also wanted to know what it would be like to be lost in those eyes.
’’Is there a name you have in mind that you prefer?’’
They just stared at each other. He was indeed something. You can never tire from having him as your company.
Maybe it is not too bad to consider him as one. He is one of the reasons it wasn’t so lonely in this world.
Evangeline smiled at him and rose to her feet after picking up her bag to leave. Layla and Sisi might be worried and looking everywhere for her to return home. They still have a lot to discuss on how she was going to be kicking the butt of the last of her brothers in a few days time.
