Mated To The Demon Prince-Chapter 65: Losers
She woke up with a throbbing headache the next day and was surprised to see more than half of her family members staring down at her face with worry.
’We saw you lure your little sister, Anya to that place and kill her because...’
His voice alone was enough to make the gripping sensation in her head worse. It was funny how everything else that happened to her ex-mate became so blurry after.
’’Careful, careful...’’ her mother was by her side as she helped her rise to a sitting position on her bed. Everyone’s faces were on her in pure concern that she wondered if Alpha dickhead did leave her all alone in the snow to rot, and she was saved by her family. She stared at each of their faces confused. ’’Are you alright, my love? You’ve been sleeping for the past three days now that we were considering sending you over to your grandmother for treatment.’’
’’What?’’
It’s also amusing to know how quickly time jumps whenever she is in a situation that ends her being unconscious.
But three days wasn’t compared to five years she lost during her time in that hospital. Though it was something, she still found hard to believe but either way—it happened.
’’We came home from grandmother’s place to see if you were back and were surprised to see you were sleeping. But it became scary when it progresses to the next day, and you were not waking up, no matter how hard we tried to wake you.’’
Evangeline couldn’t close her mouth.
What really happened after Alpha Jerkface told her she was responsible for her sister’s death?
It was so difficult to push past the fogginess of her mind, and it felt like a lot more happened than her mind is willing to let her know about.
’’Do you need to rest more or do you have the strength to tell us how you are feeling? Tell us where it is hurting or bothering you, and we are all ready to make it go away instantly.’’
Evangeline turned her neck a bit to the side to look at her mom who continuously ran her hands down her back, her beautiful face so reassuring. Yet, she couldn’t believe Evangeline was that crazy enough to murder her sister just to be the only one that would get all their love and attention. But she still wants to believe there is more to this story. Probably a misunderstanding, and she doesn’t want to quickly jump into the concept of painting the savior of this world a villain.
Alpha Jack might be trying to do a dirty brainwashing on her to make her doubt herself. If only she could see what happened before that memory of this body was revealed to her.
’’No,’’ the girl shook her head softly at her mom. ’’I am fine, just a bit of headache and that’s all.’’
’’A headache?’’ Her mother raised an alarm before climbing down from her bed and turning to those girls who were personally assigned to be her handmaidens. ’’My daughter’s dinner would be brought to her along with the concoction I will be preparing for her to help with the headache.’’
She turned to Evangeline who allowed herself to be kissed by her on the forehead. The feeling of it alone was enough to make you feel loved more than you love yourself.
’’What I will prepare for you is a skill I learned from your grandmother during my twenty-one days of being with her. It would make that terrible headache disappear and never to show its ugly face again.’’
Evangeline couldn’t stop herself from smiling.
’’All your foods would be brought to you, and you are not allowed to go anywhere until you’ve regained your full strength, alright?’’
She had no choice but to nod at the woman. Not that she had anywhere interesting to be in this world.
She watched her mom leave with the rest of her family and wondered if her brothers would get special conditions that would make their own headaches disappear without a trace. She had this urge to at least pay them each a brief visit. Rebuild whatever broken bond has been severed by the previous occupant of this body. And maybe, one day, be loved and accepted by them.
Her hope in this world if she was going to be living as one of them was not to be concerned with the drama of enemies. She would wish if everyone had a clear mind towards her as how she is to them.
She sighed back on the headboard as her ghostly companions refused to let her take her rest. They shifted to her side, eager to tell her all she had missed on her three days of not being online.
’’What?’’
She asked when they wouldn’t stop grinning so close to her face.
’’Prince Xalith, when he heard what was going on with you followed us home and visited to see if you were awake more than thrice.’’
Evangeline blinked, not knowing why that should be a reason to be grinning like you’ve just been proposed to by your true love.
’’So?’’
Both Layla and Sisi gasped at her ignorance.
’’Eva, he brought you flowers!’’ Sisi snapped with a widened gaze.
’’Beautiful enchanted ones. They are in the indoor garden if you want to take a look at them.’’ Layla added and she couldn’t feel more disgusted. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
She hated flowers. Why would anyone think giving her a plant could warm her heart? It was the most ridiculous thing she has seen most couples do, and she was sure the receiver can’t smell anything even though they pretend to.
She rolled her eyes and moved to place her head on the pillows.
’’No, thank you. I am allergic to them.’’
’’Since when?’’ Both Layla and Sisi blinked at her.
’’Apart from coming over to wish you a speedy recovery, he came to wish you success in the upcoming duel against your third brother, Ash!’’
Now, it was Eva’s turn to blink so hard to have her eyes rolling out from their socket.
’’You have already shown us your power and strength and proven your worthiness by kicking both Zayne and Ezekiel’s button multiple and different duels. The more reason we are confident of having you as our future leader. The finally duel to make your post as the future Alpha King of the whole of Astoria official is between you and Ash this coming week.’’
Evangeline stared at the both of them confused.
Layla chuckled, ’’And we both know how Ash is kind of of a pussy when it comes to hand-to-hand duels, the one that involved using the swords or letting our wolves out to fight. This should be as easy as having a slice of moon pie.’’
’’Hmm, moon pie.’’
☆
’’Ezekiel, what do you suggest we do? We mustn’t lose to her again or else father would really disown us as his pups, and we would have nothing but our lives and mates to our names.’’
Prince Zayne, the eldest son, could be seen sitting behind a large telescope in the kingdom’s observatory. A golden coin moving in-between his long, slender fingers as his face moved in deep thought, not really interested in the desperate conversation happening between his younger siblings.
’’At this point, Ash. I don’t know what else to say or do but to try your best and don’t run away before her like you do during the duel or father would throw us out of the house while he puts a sword to your neck and invite us to mourn your death.’’
’’Ridiculous,’’ Ash lamented bitterly. ’’What exactly does he expect from us? That brat was divinely touched with the blessings of abundant and unnecessary strength by the moon goddess. How should we compete when we have nothing but a wasteful primordial energy to compete with?’’
Ezekiel sighed, shaking his head that he had nothing else to say than his advice to him. They have been dreading and fearing the outcome of this final duel for the seat of the Alpha King. Everyone thought Evangeline would lose to Zayne or worse to Ezekiel. It was terrifying when the young princess was this close to murdering her brothers during the past duels that occurred years ago. The news of the outcome was enough to increase her popularity and make everyone believe she was indeed god-sent.
The duels not only brought great shame to the princes but ruined their lives. The expectations of them being the one to show their sister who was boss as she was thought to be at a lesser advantage than them turned to one of great disappointment and contempt. No one wanted to look at them, as they thought them to be incompetent wolves that were not even worthy of the royal blood running through their veins.
’’That brat—I suspect her not to be herself.’’
Both Ash and Ezekiel turned to their oldest brother to ask what he was talking about, or what he meant by their sister not being herself. But the subtle frown on his face confirmed he knew what he was talking about.
’’The last time she ate with us, like every other night at dinner she has been eating conveniently with her left hand. Even receiving stuff with it.’’
’’So?’’
Zayne turned to the dumbest among them—Ash.
’’The Evangeline I know and watch grow up is right-handed.’’
Silence as Zayne’s observation of their sister was true and a bit disturbing.
’’She even stares at us a lot lately confused. Probably wondering who the fuck are these losers and why they are all treated as one every night when she was the one that made our lives this way. I am determined to observe her more and get to the bottom of this. Who knows, we might just be too lucky to find something that might drag her down to where we are today. But in case we might not find anything about her that might be useful, I have a plan on how to make Ash succeed in the final duel and win back what was rightfully ours from birth.’’
